AIBU?

My waters have just gone - AIBU to try and go back to sleep?!

DC2 is due today. I woke up at 00.55, felt a tiny pop before I felt a trickle of fluid. Waddled to the bathroom, got myself cleaned up, laid bed mats and towel on bed before getting back in. By 1.30 I was back in the bathroom changing pad etc from trickle no 2.

Absolutely no contractions so far. AIBU to try to go back to sleep and wait to call hospital tomorrow morning?? With DD1 my waters didn't go until I'd already got to the hospital

If your last labour was quick, I'd be going in tbh, good luck

There is a part of me that wants to go in to be examined quite soon. Although I can't feel regular contractions at the moment I have back ache and am starting to feel quite sick.

I love these threads. Good luck OP. If you want to go in then go in, trust your instincts. If you feel sick ask for anti nausea meds, I had them for every labour and they are amazingly effective.

Yay @ColdFeetWarmHeart!! (I've been on the other thread with you moaning about how impatient we've been for labour to start!) mildly jealous 😉 but really happy for you! Fingers crossed you're not kept too much longer until you have your baby out with you xxx

My waters broke and I never got any contractions! Had to be induced the next day. Give the midwife a ring, chances are they'll tell you to get some rest and come in when ours contracting.

Good luck ColdFeet and Mandraki!

ColdFeet, I'm posting as the things you've said sound similar to my labours. Trickling waters/able to rest with irregular period type pain etc. With DC2 labour, got up in morning feeling rested but ready for something to happen!! For me, once I started feeling sick I was heading into pushing stage and it all went very quickly from there. Got to hospital and 45mins later was cuddling DC!

So given your back ache and feeling sick, maybe time to head up if you haven't already? Good luck!xx

No the guidelines for infection risk are max 24 hours after waters going to go in, you don't need to go immediately.

It's high season for babies so they are probably keen for you to stay at home as long as humanly possible! :) At least you've now avoided rush hour traffic.

Do go in if baby's movements change, but it really sounds like things are moving. Eee!

OP, I am a midwife. Go to the hospital NOW, even if your pains are not regular and strong. With your second baby your labour will be quicker, and your symptoms are telling me you are ready to go. With second time mums I never ask them to "wait till contractions are 5 minutes apart", but instead to call me when they are ready. I still haven't had to send a single one back home.

Good luck!

How are things, are you at the hospital yet?

I've seen a couple of comments about second labour being quicker.. I thought the same would happen to me.. firstborn was 5 hour labour and second born was 36 hours haha!

You don't need to do anything yet. They won't do anything regarding infection fears until 24 hrs after waters go. I would have gotten some sleep and called to let them know (so to expect you once the 24hrs is up or sooner if labour starts and progresses well) but they really don't need an immediate call. They will do absolutely nothing unless you have some existing risk factors.

On way to hospital to now. They called me at 9.15 as they wanted me to come in for an assessment. I thought the missed call (witheld no) was dds school.

I called again as I wanted to go in. Pains are still irregular and not breathtaking (2-10 mins) but feeling sick with them and definitely feel like I'm dilating.
