She booked a taxi to my address ...cheeky?

So this morning I'm sat having a cuppa when a uber taxi pulls up at my door.
He starts beeping his horn,I ignore it and 2 minutes later I go out and a woman walks around the corner.
I ask her was this taxi for her..she said yes sorry uber app couldn't find my address so I used your house number.
I was taken aback and told her that she shouldn't of done that and not to do it again...
Was she cheeky?

I don't think she was being that cheeky to request from your house BUT she should have been there to meet the uber when it arrived. The driver should not have pulled into your driveway but it sounds like they had no other choice! But they still should've called her instead of beeping.

Uber recognises my address as being 3 doors down from where it is so I always drop the pin manually outside my actual house. Maybe politely suggest this to her if it happens/you happen to speak to her again.

SemiNormal · 18/09/2017 15:55

I can understand it being an issue if it was every morning and they beeped the horn each day but as a one off? you were being MASSIVELY unreasonable and I can't believe you actually called her out on it Grin

zukiecat · 18/09/2017 16:06

Thanks guilty

I had no idea what the difference was

I used to do this all the time as part of my walk of shame strategy Blush.
Slip out as quietly as possible pick a random direction to walk in for 5 minutes and call a cab from whatever house number I could see.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 18/09/2017 16:36

I would be annoyed because I am in bed a lot of the time and struggle to get up to see who is outside.

Used to have taxi drivers beeping outside my house at 2.00 a.m. where I lived before, at first I got up and looked out of the window, then ignored them, heard them making a call and it turned out to be the students next door giving the wrong address.

These days people are too lazy to get out of a car and ring the doorbell, not just taxi drivers. They just sit outside and beep with no regard for anyone else. Just to make it worse I get all the driving instructors teaching 3 point turns on the edge of the dropped curve and people who can't drive properly driving on the edge of our drive to turn round. I want penguin bollards or a stinger. (Stinger is at the top of the list).

Isn't it an offense to sound a horn unless it is a warning?

MrLovebucket · 18/09/2017 16:41

I can understand you feeling it was a bit cheeky if she wasn't actually at the (your) address when the taxi arrived

Overall though, I doubt she expected the driver to pull into your driveway rather than park on the road. She's also likely picked your number at random and then found it a bit harder to locate the number than she expected hence being a bit late.

2rebecca · 18/09/2017 16:47

I wouldn't want a taxi I hadn't asked for sitting on my drive beeping his horn.. She should have made it clear to the taxi that the address she gave wasn't her address and asked him not to be beep but arrived on time. It's illegal to beep your horn just out of taxi driver laziness. they either sit and wait or they knock.
I think she and the taxi driver were inconsiderate and selfish.

OddBoots · 18/09/2017 16:50

No cheeky to book it but she was cheeky to be late to meet it, if you order a pick up from somewhere other than your own house you should be there to stop it disturbing the occupants.

Liiinoo · 18/09/2017 16:54

The driver was rude to beep. The lady was perfectly reasonable.

Whinesalot · 18/09/2017 16:55

i think you are being a bit precious unless it was actually parked properly on your drive. Temporarily just pulled in across your driveway surely isn't a problem.

Mulch · 18/09/2017 16:56

You have waaay to much time on your hands

Boynamedsue · 18/09/2017 17:01

I've done this before Blush I'd walked to the bus stop and realised I'd missed my bus, there wasn't another one for ages and as the bus stop is in the same direction that I was going in anyway I booked an uber from the house by the stop. I'm pretty sure they were home but if they were bothered they didn't say!

WomblingThree · 18/09/2017 17:05

All the people banging on about it being illegal, I'd love you to call the police and see what they say.

Oblomov17 · 18/09/2017 17:09

YABU
Uber doesn't recognise my home address. Right pain. We have to wait on the main road.

Userwhocouldntthinkofagoodname · 18/09/2017 17:12

First world problems YABVU

TheFaerieQueene · 18/09/2017 17:17

This situation didn't materially cost you or damage your property. You need to let it go.

The world would be a much kinder place if we all gave a little to our fellow men and women. Getting stressed about such small incidents is what makes lives miserable. Peace and love people!

5rivers7hills · 18/09/2017 17:19

This is hilarious.

Migraleve · 18/09/2017 17:21

Lots of people order taxis from random addresses. I can't see what would bother you

ChelleDawg2020 · 18/09/2017 17:22

YABU, people are allowed to ask a taxi/minicab to pick them up from any address. You don't need the owner's permission.

If it happens and you are concerned, you should just tell the taxi driver to get the fuck off your land - a little bit of verbal abuse to him (it's usually a him!) might get your address blacklisted from that particular service, reducing the chance of the woman being able to "use" your address in future.

squoosh · 18/09/2017 17:24

If she's generally a pain in the arse YANBU. Anything annoying neighbours do is annoying.

ChelleDawg2020 · 18/09/2017 17:25

Incidentally, if you feel that you are at risk of being tailed, or are committing some sort of illicit act (illegal or just immoral), using someone else's address is very much the sort of thing you should do. Plenty of people who's lives are in danger, for whatever reason (witness protection and so on) are advised to never give out their real address. If someone is tracking them, the taxi company's records won't give anything away.
