She booked a taxi to my address ...cheeky?

So this morning I'm sat having a cuppa when a uber taxi pulls up at my door.
He starts beeping his horn,I ignore it and 2 minutes later I go out and a woman walks around the corner.
I ask her was this taxi for her..she said yes sorry uber app couldn't find my address so I used your house number.
I was taken aback and told her that she shouldn't of done that and not to do it again...
Was she cheeky?

Can someone explain the difference between an Uber and a Taxi please?

I was visiting DD1 in her new flat but missed the bus so ordered a taxi from outside someone's door

Never occurred to me that I might be doing something wrong

TheEmmaDilemma · 18/09/2017 13:17

Uber cannot pin point my address. Only the house just down from me.

I know he's arrived and head on out. Never been an issue.

Gromance02 · 18/09/2017 13:18

She WBU for using Uber. Where I live, they are pretty much boycotted as they generally aren't properly vetted and massively price-undercut established taxi drivers that are properly vetted.

cluelessnewmum · 18/09/2017 13:20

Think the key is was or wasn't the taxi on your drive, I don't understand this "was but wasn't" explanation - diagram? Grin

If it was just outside your house =yabu
If it was on your driveway =yanbu

My old house no one had driveways so a taxi may park outside your house as it might be the only place to park.

My current house everyone has big drives ways and there's lots of trees so taxis would definitely pull into the driveway otherwise you wouldn't know they were there.

Unusual for uber drivers to be beep as they have your number to call.

But other people's taxis on my driveway would definitely piss me off.

guilty100 · 18/09/2017 13:24

zukie - Uber is all done by an app, which allows you to see the cabs near you (and how far away they are) and to hail one electronically. It also pays the driver at the end of the ride from your credit card.

livefornaps · 18/09/2017 13:30

Haha - I bet you were expecting everyone say "can't believe how entitled people are now!"

invictusGames · 18/09/2017 13:31

If you'd been so rude to me ... well, guess where every future taxi would be collecting me from.

shoeaddict83 · 18/09/2017 13:34

seriously the most random non-issue post ive seen on here for a long time. I wish my neighbor getting into a cab outside my house was the biggest issue in my life Biscuit

BoomBoomBoomBoooom · 18/09/2017 13:40

I uber from wherever I am. Done it from outside lots of random houses/shops etc. Sometimes it doesn't pick up a house number so I pick another and walk to the house. That's normal.

You're a nutter if it upsets you.

Ceto · 18/09/2017 13:42

I bet she's judging you for saying she 'shouldn't of' done it instead of 'shouldn't have'.

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuckKeidis · 18/09/2017 13:43

Even if you type your address in Emma?

Littleraincloud · 18/09/2017 13:44

I'd be annoyed. Id be tempted to knock on the car window and tell the driver the taxi was cancelled if she's late again.

Littleraincloud · 18/09/2017 13:45

Sorry posted too soon. If she's on time I doubt you'd have realised. Its the lateness and the beeping that's annoying

Roundandroundtheapartment · 18/09/2017 13:46

I wouldn't be annoyed in this situation I think I would be if it was regular though - especially because some Taxi companies will 'blacklist' your name if you order and then are a no show etc

CotswoldStrife · 18/09/2017 13:49

I'd have been annoyed at the beeping horn right outside my house for no reason so I'd say YANBU OP. Cheeky of the caller not to wait outside your house for the taxi but to wait until it turned up.

DiegoMadonna · 18/09/2017 13:50

Haha Ceto Grin I can just see her imminent mumsnet thread now....

So this morning I needed to order an uber but the app can't find my address, so I just put in the number of a neighbour's house. A couple of minutes later I hear a car beeping so I run out and there it is.

Suddenly, out comes my neighbour asking if this taxi is for me.. I said yes and explained about the address problem (I'm thinking "it's an uber, not a taxi, ffs", but I keep schtum - got to be polite with your neighbours and all that). She seemed taken aback and said "you shouldn't of done that! And don't do it again!"

Shouldn't of done that? Was she for real? I was in a rush so I just jumped in the uber and left, but now I've been replaying it in my head all day and I can't help but think I should have corrected her grammar. WIBU to put a note through her door tonight explaining that "shouldn't of" is not proper English?

namechangedagainx · 18/09/2017 13:55

I've done this before didn't think this would be an issue?

Talkietalk · 18/09/2017 13:58

My mum had this problem a number of years ago. five separate occasions the taxi driver got my mum out of bed beeping and ringing doorbell - 10pm at night approx. each time. My mum was in her dressing gown and pointed out the cars on the drive way (I know she could still have needed a taxi). The last time she waited for the users who were students from the local private school and had a go at them. She reported them to the school as she was being continuously disturbed.

It appears the students used her address as it was right next to the path they walked up - more direct route to town. they were always late so the taxi driver kept on at my mum.

The taxi driver (same firm) said she would be blacklisted and she said 'yes please'

After the complaint the problem stopped (then the school closed anyway)

Perhaps contact the taxi firm and ask them not to send anyone to your address or go outside and tell them you don't need them anymore if they come again?

I think it is cheeky, but as you can see, this caused a big upset to my mum so im biased

Talkietalk · 18/09/2017 13:59

namedchanged

If you are there waiting it shouldn't be an issue, I only see it as an issue where the taxi arrives first and bothers the home owner

guilty100 · 18/09/2017 14:03

Her lateness is slightly weird - the thing about the Uber app is that you know where your ride is every second of the way, so you know exactly when it will arrive. You literally watch a tiny little taxi crawl across the map to you and then there is an notification that says "Your Uber is arriving" when it's about a minute away. So you shouldn't be late for it. But some people are always late for cabs, right? I find it rude personally, but they clearly don't!

Uber works by the GPS in your phone. Sometimes it is just off a bit. It is really no issue.

I cannot imagine a situation where being cross to the point of confrontation at this is an appropriate response. You must just be utterly exhausted from all the daily annoyance and anger if things like this are an issue for you.

tiddleywinks27 · 18/09/2017 14:15

Yes i think it's cheeky and and that she should have called into you first and asked if it were ok especially if he plonked in your driveway and started beeping the horn! You could have been working night shift /sleeping and the driver beeping the horn could've woken you...

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 18/09/2017 14:18

Ahh, the fact that you don't like her is what's clouding your judgement, OP.

It's really nothing to get annoyed about.
