CosyFires · 18/09/2017 08:27

Just been scrolling through FB and come across a post where there are genuine people with genuine beliefs that the Earth is flat.

I honestly believed it was just a joke and that people were taking the piss. Apparently not!

AIBU to ask what the craziest beliefs you've come across in British modern society?

Dinosaur Myth thread

SlackerMum - I have both visited Austrailia and held a koala (they are surprisingly fragile and smell like eucalyptus!) - they're definitely real - unless I have been spectacularly duped!

GrockleBocs · 18/09/2017 15:18

You'd have to have been on strong drugs to invent a kangaroo.

BarbarianMum · 18/09/2017 15:33

That Donald Trump would make a good President

Natsku · 18/09/2017 15:35

The Australia doesn't exist conspiracy was on the Flat Earth forums too, people would get so angry about that one.

Sorry to disappoint anyone about Flat Earthers, if it helps I do think some might be genuine believers.

RedGrape thanks for the link to the dinosaur thread thread - missed it first time round - funniest thing I've read for ages! Grin

CaveMum, quite right about Princess Diana. The only reason she didn't survive the accident was because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. But hey, conspiracy theories are much more fun.

My uncle, who worked for the United Nations, was convinced that 9/11 was all a giant Zionist conspiracy.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/09/2017 16:30

Someone better tell the Aussie's they arent real........actually dont. We dont want a Westworld scenerio.

sashh · 18/09/2017 16:35

Me too, and I've been to South America.

Maybe I was jut in Singapore both times.

Maudlinmaud · 18/09/2017 16:40

Australia is actually a film set? That's fabulous Grin

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 18/09/2017 16:56

Natsku

My mum's partner is a real believer. You can't argue with him because he say's that all proof is fake.

Cant argue with stupid.

iklboo · 18/09/2017 17:12

Ah...I get it now. When you board a flight to this 'Australia' place they pump anaesthetic gas into the plane, run round and change everyone's watches, tablets, phones etc so it looks like loads of time has passed. Then a fairly quick jaunt to South America that has totally the same weather etc. All makes perfect sense!

LilithTheKitty · 18/09/2017 17:15

Oh I didn't know about fake Australia. I thought it was Finland that wasn't real...

SlackerMum1 · 18/09/2017 17:16

What I really want to know is how you get 'in' on the gig.... presume it's paid right? I could hang about Trafalgar Square and pretend to be an Ozzie tourist for cash!

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 18/09/2017 17:19

TaliZorahVasNormandy

Yet I do, so I wonder what that says about me.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 18/09/2017 17:20

Yeah, that'd be the easiest job going.

brasty · 18/09/2017 17:27

The Flat Earth society at my university was just a drinking club.

But some people do believe it. I always remember in a group of friends we started talking about conspiracy theories, and then someone mentioned flat earth conspirators. We all laughed, until one of our friends said - I believe the earth is flat. And then spent 20 minutes "explaining" how we had all been duped. We were all like this Confused and Hmm
