Flat Earthers.. Craziest beliefs!

CosyFires · 18/09/2017 08:27

Just been scrolling through FB and come across a post where there are genuine people with genuine beliefs that the Earth is flat.

I honestly believed it was just a joke and that people were taking the piss. Apparently not!

AIBU to ask what the craziest beliefs you've come across in British modern society?

WorraLiberty
If the earth was flat, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

^ love this!

streetface · 18/09/2017 09:40

Scientologists believe the queen is a shape shifting lizard

AnnieAnoniMouse · 18/09/2017 09:40

...and the photos of Earth from the sky don't convince them otherwise?

FM.

For me it's the transgender stuff. Men being able to decide they're women & invade previously safe spaces. I can't believe it's being allowed, in 2017.

Mustang27 · 18/09/2017 09:44

Oh god lizard people, nuts and Chem trails Hmm.

Maudlinmaud · 18/09/2017 09:47

I'm on the fence about the Lizard people. Totally on the fence.

CosyFires · 18/09/2017 09:48

Never heard of lizard people! What is this?

OP posts:
HurtyTeeth · 18/09/2017 09:49

What are chem trails, then?

FrizzyNoodles · 18/09/2017 09:55

Chemtrails are plane exhaust fumes. Some people think that the government are poisoning us with them.

MrsJamesAspey · 18/09/2017 09:56

Never heard of lizard people! What is this?

The royal family, well especially the queen are shape shifting lizards....how could you not know this? Did you learn nothing at school? Grin

My ex is a flat earther!
He's found it since we've been separated, but was always a massive conspiracy theorist because of all the weed he smokes so it was only a matter of time really.
We are still friends and his long suffering girlfriend said he took her to a pub because he had 'something to tell her' and just came out with it. She laughed her head off.

On the rare occasions we have talked about it, I have to ask him: WHY???
WHY would 'They' (it is always just 'They') want us to believe this?
9/11, moon landing etc, whilst I don't believe the conspiracies, I can at least understand that their are motivations behind it being fake.

This I just can't. At we go round and round (pun intended) with me coming back all the time to WHY?
He can never answer.
He just says 'To keep the masses in the dark'

That's literally all he can say. It's infuriating but he's a dear friend and I just nod along now. Confused

Faith in all sorts of weird ideas is crazy.

The world is made up of crazies who believe anything they're told, the crazier the better.

harvester77 · 18/09/2017 10:01

No more batty then a talking snake in a garden and that's the cause of all evil in the world because the woman ate the Apple.

Albinohedgehogs · 18/09/2017 10:13

i used to nanny for a toddler whose parents were "healers" As he was learning to walk he would occasionally fall. His mother told me he was tripping over my negative energy and insisted her husband give me a crystal healing to purify my 'energies'.

CosyFires · 18/09/2017 10:26

@Albinohedgehogs No fucking way 😅 That's hilarious! 😂

Freemen on the land amuse me.

They believe that they aren't beholden to any and all laws, shouldn't pay any taxes or bills and basically we're government property with no free will.

Ironically it's OK to claim benefits though.

I also love flat earthers Grin apparently NASA is fake and a conspiracy. Not sure why or for what purpose. Except to trick us the earth is round

EarlessToothlessVagabond · 18/09/2017 10:33

I came across a flat earther on Twitter for the first time recently. I think it was on a thread about Cassini. I actually thought it was someone taking the piss for laughs it was so utterly ridiculous, and they were incredibly aggressive as well.

SilverySurfer · 18/09/2017 11:24

That the Earth is 6,000 years old (instead of the reality which is approx 3.5 billion) and dinosaurs never existed, their bones and other fossils were put in the earth by God - according to one woman I worked with Hmm

makeourfuture · 18/09/2017 11:37

That feelings are more than chemical/electrical reactions.

Earth cant be flat. It's not even level. Mountains are the clue.

PolkaDotty7 · 18/09/2017 11:43

Jehovah's Witness believe Adam and Eve came before dinosaurs and all the scientific evidence proving dinosaurs were around millions of years before humans is all bollocks.

Sorry, but that's not true. They do believe that dinosaurs came before Adam and Eve. Don't know where you heard that.

Willow2017 · 18/09/2017 11:46

I heard a twist on the dinosaur theory. That Victorian archaeologists buried the 'pretend' dinosaur bones to 'prove' that evolution was wrong and there was nothing on earth before Adam & Eve.

Just how that would work I don't know.

What did they do with the real fossils?
How did they get them into rock?
Never got an answer just 'because it's true'
Some people have no concept of thinking for themselves.

Afflictus · 18/09/2017 11:46

NASA recently had a live stream from the international space station on Facebook. About half the comments were from flat earthers picking apart the live footage to prove it was fake.

Afflictus · 18/09/2017 11:54

I know a few people with alternative views. One woman believes that she can communicate with angels and she translates their messages through a type of drawing (the name of which escapes me). Basically she closes her eyes and allows them to take over her hand or something like that and then she deciphers the drawings. Apparently fluoride blocks these channels and that's why governments add it to water (never mind that we live in Yorkshire where we don't have fluoridated water Hmm). Also, schizophrenics are just misunderstood Angel messengers.

I also know a flat earther and another woman who is really into crystals, healing, energy, numerology, star signs etc etc.

I just nod and smile.

Afflictus · 18/09/2017 11:56

Someone sent me this link www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/1816628-pale-blue-dot-a-vision-of-the-human-future-in-space which touches on the subject of religion and science. Well worth a read.

Userwhocouldntthinkofagoodname · 18/09/2017 12:02

They believe it for the same reason anyone else believes in a religion, its all the same mindset.
