See it more and more.

'Been here a while. Cancel the cheque, t-rexing in asda, Maui'

WHO GIVES A FUCK

Like the advice would be different if you're a new subscriber.

Also 'mn royalty' like people who have been here for a long time, well their views are less important because they're all cynical and tainted. Ridiculous.

Does my head in.

I think it's to prove they aren't trolls. Sometimes troll hunting on threads gets tiresome and if they name changed no one can see their posting history.

Buttercunt · 18/09/2017 00:03

I'd say I'm seeing it less to be honest, along with other examples of the MN forum culture.

I haven't been here long. Don't know all the lingo yet or some of the references. But I've found it pretty inclusive and welcoming so far. Doesn't bother me and someone usually explains. I already know I shouldn't ever let my washing get "darked on" Smile

Tobuyornot99 · 18/09/2017 00:05

If I were a troll I'd start my post with "NC, long time MNetter, cutted up pear, pomme bears, penis breaker etc". Which us absolutely meaningless as it's trotted out so often.
I'm with you OP, who gives a fuck?!

Bintang · 18/09/2017 00:06

Cancel the cheque?
Trexing?
Those aren't old threads.
For truly old threads you need cube of poo and tablecloth lady.
YABU and parvenue.

GrockleBocs · 18/09/2017 00:07

There's not much 'royalty' left. Everybody name changed or left. And the 'Cancel the cheque, t-rexing in asda, Maui' things are people proofing against AS or the DM or Reddit.
It doesn't really matter much.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 18/09/2017 00:08

mn royalty is almost always used as a sneery insult (as you just did)

No, not at all. I was saying the opposite. Apols if it came across that way. Maybe I didn't use the words correctly.

I just hate opening a thread and seeing people feeling the need to prove they have been on this forum for a while. I mean, who cares??

OP posts:
AuntyEstablishment · 18/09/2017 00:10

...or been banned 😂

I think that long term posters can be just as big a troll'ers as new posters so I'm with the OP on not giving a monkies.

"'Cancel the cheque, t-rexing in asda, Maui' things are people proofing against AS or the DM or Reddit." how on earth does quoting old thread proof against AS, DM or Reddit?

Quoting threads, to prove been here a while, has been going on for more than 9 years. And that long ago you didn't worry about reddit or DM.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 18/09/2017 00:16

No - I meant people respond to 'royalty' with 'take no notice, they have been here for years so their point is not valid'

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 18/09/2017 00:17

ILoveMillhousesDad would it be less annoying if instead of quoting threads they quoted troll names?

RestlessTraveller · 18/09/2017 00:20

I've been here on and off for 8 years, under various names and a complete deregistrstion after the Jeff thing and the reason people do it is because of the troll hunting and sarky "interesting first post' comments.

I do think you're right though the advice wouldn't be any different, I'm seeing less and less references to royalty it used to piss me off at the start because it was all a bit clique-y, but now I agree it's used in a derogatory fashion.

I obviously don't pay much attention either because now I think about it I don't think I can name any of the 'royalty', or maybe only one bit that's because I find her comments totally abhorrent.

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/09/2017 00:28

OP you're not listening. People only do it to show that they're not trolls.

Of course, it doesn't prove anything but it's not meant to show off or some weird shit.

SerfTerf · 18/09/2017 00:30

You've misunderstood the point of it.

It's to forestall accusations of trolley when namechanging, by "proving" you're a namechanger.

Not a foolproof system by any means but it's certainly not what you've taken it to be.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 18/09/2017 00:33

Okay. I will take the point about trolls. IWBU regarding that. But I do think SOME people do it prove a point. If people are being accused of being trolls, a quick look from mnhq can sort that. I just think it's bloody meaningless quoting old threads.

OP posts:
GrockleBocs · 18/09/2017 00:37

Yes agreed the DM & reddit are newer developments and yes the thread refs have been a long standing thing. I think people have become far more aware of the need to not be a 'name' but trolls make everyone suspicious.

notangelinajolie · 18/09/2017 00:51

I haven't a clue when I joined and I haven't always posted but to be honest I'd have no idea who who is old/new or regular as I don't look at the names - I just read the posts and reply if I want to.

KitKat1985 · 18/09/2017 00:53

I've always seen it as just a way that people show that they are genuine site users and haven't just joined the site half an hour before to start trolling.

ZerbaPadnaTigre · 18/09/2017 00:56

Been here a while or been here five minutes and clicked on one of the gazillions of threads that quote lists old threads and just copied them... or been here trolling long enough to realise that some users think doing this list makes me look more legit...

MadamePomfrey · 18/09/2017 01:07

I agree it's pointless! But it's not meant to exclude it's meant to prove your not a troll. However after 1 month here anyone can easily quote most of that so it's a bit pointless! MNHQ can see all posting history so if you have been around they will know it doesn't matter!

As for mumsnet royalty I'm not sure how you mean it? There are certain names I see who I recognise as giving good advice in the same way there are those who I think like a fight/drama! I choose who I listen to accordingly! That's said im still always happy to take advice from new users ect for me it's about what you post not your name.

I'm not sure there many of the true royalty left be it name changes or leaving personally I miss it a bit not in a your special you have been here years way but I relied on their bullshit reader before commenting, I think it's a shame the site is losing those with the experience to call troll.

GrockleBocs · 18/09/2017 01:15

Madame I think a lot are still around under nc but there have been bannings for troll hunting. They were probably more accurate than a MNHQ newbie!
