See it more and more.

'Been here a while. Cancel the cheque, t-rexing in asda, Maui'

WHO GIVES A FUCK

Like the advice would be different if you're a new subscriber.

Also 'mn royalty' like people who have been here for a long time, well their views are less important because they're all cynical and tainted. Ridiculous.

Does my head in.

OP posts:

Op YANBU

It always puts my back up straight away for some reason,

'Cutted up pear'
'Pom Bears'
'Naice Ham'

Angry
Toadinthehole · 18/09/2017 01:25

Meh. I don't care eIther way.

I also don't see any evidence of an MN royalty. A couple of years ago I'd have said different.

Nb. I've posted here under the same userid for about 8 years! I am, nevertheless, a nobody.

ChippingInLostInDarkPlayground · 18/09/2017 01:28

Most of the the 'old timers' are just really rude, sad little people who think they are important because people recognise their usernames on a public forum

Whilst the newer posters are all so charming,

ChippingInLostInDarkPlayground · 18/09/2017 01:32

It's not as much use to do it as it was once, but it does still tend to stop people saying things like 'Interesting first post' or 'you joined just to say that!?' If people were less snipey about 'first posts' people wouldn't do it.

Blame the hackers & trolls, not the the legit posters simply trying to say they're genuine.

MadamePomfrey · 18/09/2017 01:34

Grockle you are probably right I just miss seeing certain names questioning things and thinking twice! I think as posters there is a lot more freedom than MNHQ have to call people out as obviously HQ need proof, sometimes a well timed Hmm from well know experienced posters was enough to make you think twice! Now it's hard to know who's troll, troll hunter or just a GF I think name changing is largely to blame!! I also accept being here years doesn't mean you can know everything!

ClinkyMonkey · 18/09/2017 01:41

I get more irritated by the posters who berate others for bringing up a subject that's supposedly been 'done to death'. Virtual sighs and impatient cries of 'here we go again'. The poster might be new or perhaps doesn't usually read threads within particular topics. They are often sent sent off with their tails between their legs and told to do a search. Charming!

vegetariansAreDelicious · 18/09/2017 01:55

Absolutely.

I think the references to old threads are mostly to get a little bit of that kudos they perceive.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 18/09/2017 12:31

"Most of the the 'old timers' are just really rude, sad little people who think they are important because people recognise their usernames on a public forum."

That is utter bollocks. Most of the old timers were not MN royalty back in the day and the term really has evolved to put down anyone who has been a while and is a high quantity poster. Most of the old timers who the newbies are calling royalty couldn't give a shiny shit about being royalty or having kudos.

Floellabumbags · 18/09/2017 12:36

Just be thankful we haven't had one of those "Who is your favourite poster" threads recently.

tccat · 18/09/2017 12:48

Doesn't really bother me but then neither do trolls, I would still rather take a chance on them being genuine and needing help, also even if it is a troll, other people who are going through similar may be reading and taking advice quietly

AuntieStella · 18/09/2017 12:52

'people who have been here for a long time, well their views are less important because they're all cynical and tainted. Ridiculous.'

How long is a long time?

I've never been accused AFAIK of being 'royalty' but I have been around a while. Should I just bugger off, as not wanted?

guilty100 · 18/09/2017 12:58

I don't think it's about either saying you aren't a troll, or saying you're important. It's a shorthand for "I'm a member of the community, I've offered others advice and now I need some myself, but I've name changed because I'm fairly identifiable in real life from other posts and this is a personal and embarrassing topic". It's more about reciprocity than importance.

gamerchick · 18/09/2017 13:01

Makes no odds to me. I watched longtime and trusted posters on handbag go all strange and suddenly start trolling out of the blue.

It might sting a bit more when they're found out but it just goes back to people on the internet may not be who they say they are. Whether they're new or old.

Except from the obvious troll threads put out deliberately for the lolz.

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2017 13:10

The thing with starting a post saying 'N/C for this-Pom Bears/Cube of Poo/River of sweetcorn etc. It always makes me think that the post is going to be in some way bizarre/goady or unbelievable hence the reason for the N/C. Grin

ILoveDolly · 18/09/2017 13:11

Ha ha yes @toadinthehole
I've been on mn for 10 years and no one recognises me or replies to my threads. In fact I'm usually a thread killer Blush

AstrantiaMajor · 18/09/2017 13:12

I agree OP. Very few things irritate me, but I hide all threads that startthat way.

Ginslinger · 18/09/2017 13:13

it's all right Dolly I'm here to snatch that thread killer title from you Grin

GinandGingerBeer · 18/09/2017 13:15

Anyway, who is this Millhouses dad you love?

ILoveDolly · 18/09/2017 13:20

@ginslinger maybe our comments are so fabulous no one can top them Grin

macandcheesewithbacon · 18/09/2017 13:28

Whilst we're on the subject can someone explain 'Maui' or 'Hairy hands' to me?

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2017 13:30

Hairy hands is a troll, I have never known what Maui was about, nor the Elderly Korean Lady. Some of the threads are in classics I think.

The Pom Bear one was really not all that.

Dalphidol · 18/09/2017 13:32

Tbf I see that less now that it used to be ten odd years ago. Some posters were really cheeky back then about threads that had been done before. I get it though, why people bother their arse to post that rather than click out I dunno. It's the way of any popular forum, the same questions get asked repeatedly.

Birdsgottafly · 18/09/2017 13:41

"Whilst we're on the subject can someone explain 'Maui' or 'Hairy hands' to me?"

Maui was a thread in which the OP was feeling let down because your friends/family/work colleagues wasn't going all out I.E using all their leave/savings to attend her wedding in Maui.

Hairy handed (trucker)=looking for wank fodder.

The Maui poster also bemoaned having to live in a flat (in Knightsbridge/Kensington) and took pics to prove she was there, which included Cartier jewellery.

Bluntness100 · 18/09/2017 13:46

I also think it's done when someone name changes to prove they aren't a troll. To be fair I don't really understand it because I'm fairly sure many of the trolls have been around forever too...but it doesn't bother me.

invictusGames · 18/09/2017 13:47

"Hairy handed (trucker)=looking for wank fodder."

That's a particularly horrible and sexist term.
