To drink?!

Okay bear with me.
I literally NEVER drink, as me and OH are TTC. Today he has gone to a local pub/restaurant to meet some acquaintances to talk business. I have decided to chill on the sofa whilst my son is glued to some new dvds upstairs.
I am watching Pretty Little Liars and enjoying a very nice bottle or two of wine as spritzers. I updated my status to say 'wine, PLL, and vape, happy Sunday!'
Within minutes I'd received a phone call off my mother to say that I should not be drinking unsupervised whilst in charge of my son. My son is 6, he's has lunch and I am not planning to get smashed. For crying out loud I'm almost 27, am I really not allowed to enjoy a drink on a Sunday afternoon?! For reference, the last time I drank was last year Sad.
So, AIBU?!

I simply posted "wine, PLL, and vape" along with a picture of my vape mod and juice. No mention of how much I was going to be drinking.

bluntness I'm unsure why you can't read the OP where I stated exactly what I posted.

I'm enjoying a rare sunday afternoon of peace and quiet with a glass of wine, lovely. Family will be back in a hour Hmm

FallingOrbit · 17/09/2017 15:09

What's PLL? Anybody?

FuckMyUterus · 17/09/2017 15:10

Pretty Little Liars

I would judge, but that's because I don't approve of alcohol or vaping.

But if you're going to put something out in a public space, you should accept people will judge and possibly make comment. If you don't like that, don't put it out there.

FuckMyUterus · 17/09/2017 15:12

Yeah, my point is not that someone has passed judgement, as I'm a big girl and can handle some criticism. My point is that it's come from my own mother who is making me feel like I'm a borderline alcoholic even though I haven't drank in almost 12 months Hmm

Focusing mainly on the alcohol part, would you elaborate as to what you mean when you say you don't "approve" of it? Do you mean others shouldn't drink (full stop) because you (presumably) don't? More info if you would?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 17/09/2017 15:17

FallingOrbit I believe alcohol should be made illegal; nothing good ever comes of it. Nobody is a better person after drinking it. A lot of people might they they are, but these people are fools.

It seems so immature to 'post' your activities on Facebook, and equally immature of your mother to comment. How old are you both?

I have had a large drink or two with my lunch today, I will be having more wine later - I enjoy it but I see no need to share the news with anyone - and quite honestly who on earth would be interested? Confused.

chocolateworshipper · 17/09/2017 15:19

You're lucky you didn't get a lecture about the risks of second-hand exposure to vaping for your son

FuckMyUterus · 17/09/2017 15:20

No alcohol issues past or present, in fact I very rarely drink, I have form for purchasing bottles of spirits for example, which will sit in cupboards and eventually get thrown away/gifted/drank by somebody else.

TwoKidsAndCounting · 17/09/2017 15:22

YABVU - a wine spritzer should be done with sparkling water, not lemonade!

Your mother sounds like a joy, ignore her and all of these snobby posters taking the 'i would never be so irresponsible' high ground.

We are all allowed to enjoy our Sundays without judgement!

FuckMyUterus · 17/09/2017 15:22

chocolate running a vaping business, I know all about the non existent effects of second hand vaping, but that's another subject.

OP posts:
FuckMyUterus · 17/09/2017 15:25

twokidsandcounting I seriously cannot abide wine with sparkling water... Having said that, I am not the most classy of people, when I do drink, I quite like a Lambrini Blush

Don't put it on Facebook in future. That's the only lesson you need to learn from this! Oh and if you DO post on Facebook, don't tell Mumsnet!

PurpleDaisies · 17/09/2017 15:28

That's not necessarily true. Studies have found vaping reduces air quality and increases concentrations of various nasties in the air. It's less bad than conventional smoking but saying there are "non existent effects" is going too far.

Softkittysillykitty · 17/09/2017 15:30

A glass or two is fine OP. A bottle or two is excessive.

purple links to these studies? Studies that, I assume, are conducted by organisations not linked to Big Tobacco?

Salmakia · 17/09/2017 15:33

Also if you've not drank for a year you're going to get very drunk, very quickly.

FuckMyUterus · 17/09/2017 17:13

Have given up after 4 glasses of spritzer and 5 trips to the loo Hmm
My bladder control clearly isn't what it was!

OP the two things most guaranteed to trigger major MN disapproval are alcohol and Facebook. To combine the two is asking for trouble. You'd have been better saying you've taken cocaine.
