Am i being wicked stepmother?

DH has a son who is 22. He's quite an immature lad and doesn't really socialise outside of family. He also doesn't have an income and works voluntary instead.

He and DH are desperate to see a film that is coming out and DH had said that when it comes out, he'll take him. The son has then gone on about how he'll keep checking the imax times etc so they can book tickets. It's a given that DH will be paying for both tickets.

The imax cinema is 48 miles away and we have a perfectly good Cineworld 5 minutes away from our house. I've told DH that I think they should just go to the local cinema due to distance and ticket prices. He's reluctantly agreed.

If DSS was a child I'd be more chilled out but as an adult, I think dictating that it needs to be imax when he's not the one paying is out of order!

Am I being wicked stepmother?

You're being a petty twat.

And your husband is clearly spineless.

HTH.

PineappleScrunchie · 17/09/2017 12:41

Yes

MyBrilliantDisguise · 17/09/2017 12:42

100 mile round trip to go and see a film?! That's just ridiculous!

FeckTheMagicDragon · 17/09/2017 12:42

Unless you are struggling for money I think that's kind of mean. Dad and son want to go to see a film. Why interfer?

Neverknowing · 17/09/2017 12:43

It's a treat I'd let them go. Leave it up to your Dh in future, if you're the one taking him and you wanted to go to the closer one fair enough but it sounds like your husband wanted to go to the imax too.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 17/09/2017 12:43

No, not wicked, but if it's a lovely thing for them both to do together and enjoy and if DH can afford the extra, why not?

Maybe DSS could drive to even things up a bit?

CosmicPineapple · 17/09/2017 12:43

Its a none issue.
If dad is happy to pay and happy to go to the cinema furthest away then what has it got to do with you?

FeckTheMagicDragon · 17/09/2017 12:43

And if this is the new Blade Runner movie seeing it in IMAX would be well worth the trip :)

BulldogFart · 17/09/2017 12:44

DSS doesn't drive.

Or if they wait a bit longer they can watch it on Netflicks from the comfort of the living room.

Ybvu.

Expemsiveuniform · 17/09/2017 12:45

That's for your partner and his son to sort out and unless you are going with them it's none of your business.

MadMags · 17/09/2017 12:45

Some movies are better in IMAX.

Is it really that big a deal? How does it affect you, aside from the fact that he'll be gone a few hours?

Bluntness100 · 17/09/2017 12:46

Do you have some serious financial issues? Is there a drip feed coming.

If no financial issues, I think it's lovely for them to go to the movies together and see no issue with the imax. And you're being petty making them go to the closer one.

If you can't afford it, then that's different.

My daughter is twenty, I'd never in a million years expect her to pay for her ticket if I was going to the movies with her, unless she had more money than me and I simply couldn't afford it.

BulldogFart · 17/09/2017 12:46

Ok point taken. I suspected I was being a bit of a bitch anyway.

chipsandpeas · 17/09/2017 12:46

some films are better on the imax screen

MadMags · 17/09/2017 12:47

What was your problem with it?

BulldogFart · 17/09/2017 12:47

No financial issues. Nothing to drip feed (unfortunately!)

FenceSitter01 · 17/09/2017 12:47

I think its between DH and his son how they spend their time together.

TheStoic · 17/09/2017 12:48

Let. It. Go.

Hidingtonothing · 17/09/2017 12:48

I wouldn't have got involved in this at all, either when DSC were kids or now they are adults. Unless it impacts on family finances why shouldn't they go where they like to see the film, even if it seems nonsensical to you?

Scaredparent · 17/09/2017 12:48

Bit harsh , if this kid is a loner like you say his dad taking him to a imax film is a bit of light in a dark life

Floisme · 17/09/2017 12:48

How nice that a 22 year old wants to go and see a film with his dad. I'd jump at the chance to do that with my grown up son - and yes I'd pay and drive to an IMAX.

Lethaldrizzle · 17/09/2017 12:48

It's a nice day out for father and son surely?

GriefLeavesItsMark · 17/09/2017 12:49

From iabu to ok, yes I am in 7 minutes - is this a record?

MadMags · 17/09/2017 12:49

I'm just curious as to what was bothering you about it?!
