Predominantly but not entirely wishful. There are lots of us POC around (this isn't a label I usually apply to myself - I usually use British or British-Asian but it seems fitting in this instance)

lion I'm sure at least half the things I post on here are repeating what someone else has posted!

PerkingFaintly · 26/09/2017 19:47

So Bannon reinforcing the "Trumpism is what I say it is" shizzle. Ie, Trumpism is Bannon's (and backers') project, with the Trump brandname on the front 'cos enough voters wouldn't support Bannon.

In fact, the whole thing is remarkably similar to Trump hotels. The Trumps license their name for a fee... then disown anything that goes tits up.

WishfulThanking · 26/09/2017 20:04

Britain is a country and Asia is a continent. Not to be facetious, pain, but the labelling of ourselves is another thing that needs to be looked at.

I looked at my child's schools' form where they wanted us to declare our race/ethnicity and despaired. White traveller is apparently a distinct category. As is 'asian' (as I said, a continent). 'Chinese' relates to a country but apparently is a race according to this form. 'British asian' is different to 'Asian Asian'. I'm guessing. There's 'white irish' 'white', 'white other'. Are English people just 'white'? You can be Asian or Asian British. Asian British is apparently 'Indian, pakistani, Bangladeshi or other' I didn't realise British was part of your ethnicity. Why can't they get this right after all this time?

orlantina · 26/09/2017 20:09

I know MN is predominantly white and doesnt really care about black issues, but this NFL thing has taken my hate for Trump to a whole new level

I am trans. My hate for Trump started a long time ago. I can't believe how much he has gone about the NFL - his attitude towards the black community speaks volumes.

cozietoesie · 26/09/2017 20:14

I watched that Trevor Noah piece first time round, Wishful - I'm glad you reposted it though. It bears watching again. Smile

cozietoesie · 26/09/2017 20:15

It's a potential problem, I agree, Pain. I imagine one that's already been recognised. Wink

lionheart · 26/09/2017 20:27

I know what you mean about the forms Wishful. I am not always sure which box I am supposed to tick from one version to the next.

I don't know what the MN demographic is with regard to racial/cultural identity. I think the basic stats. might be published somewhere after a survey but obviously it's hard to capture the information (assuming you have sensible questions) when there are so many people and so many ways they use MN. (Hello lurkers Smile)

Apologies if I missed this being posted. It's a video on Twitter, by Keith Olbermann: Resistance - Trump and Puerto Rico

Breaking News: Saudi Arabia agrees to let women drive, ending a policy long criticized as a human rights violation.

cozietoesie · 26/09/2017 20:41

45 will take credit for it. Wink

PerkingFaintly · 26/09/2017 21:08

Shock Please god may the Saudi women driving be true!

I mean, it's crap to have to celebrate such a basic thing, but I'll cheer anyway. Even if 45 pretends it's to do with him.

OuaisMaisBon · 26/09/2017 21:10

You've not seen Saudi driving, have you? Grin

cozietoesie · 26/09/2017 21:12

Shades of the Peripherique? Grin

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/09/2017 21:16

wishful What I think of and call myself when prodded to consider it is British or British Asian and quite frequently, just brown. I'm not sure that how I label myself is another thing to be looked at.

Fekko · 26/09/2017 21:20

I suspect the Saudi women might get a license if 'allowed' by their husband/dad/brother/sons (and be able to drive a blacked out vehicle between the hours of 23.00 and 22.01 hrs once a month).

Mirador · 26/09/2017 21:21

OuaisMaisBon I just watched that KO piece, and was coming to post this latest one, in which Keith really fires up. I watch on YouTube I don't have a twitter acc, and tbh if I did I'd just look like a bot with no posting history. I'm too lazy to learn Russian Grin

For those who use subtitles- as of this time of posting there aren't any yet.

He'll get some financial help. He just knows too many of the deposition sites. (Even if he doesn't realise it.)

Mirador · 26/09/2017 21:32

Wishful I'm white, only because my parents were. It's the same for everyone, and I can say I do care about Black lives, I don't understand why or how humans can be so evil just because someone looks different.

I grew up in a racist family, with a racist extended family, and I had no idea what racism was because it was just normal and never knew anything else. Luckily I left home very young, and I'm so glad I did. I got to learn what it was and it disgusted me.

I wonder if a lot of people are like that in the same way. They never had the chance I did to learn and maybe they eventually grew up and it's so ingrained, and their families and friends are still the same, add peer pressure and the desire to fit in, and the circle continues.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/09/2017 21:32

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 26/09/2017 21:33
