Hi everyone.

Sorry this is so boring but just posting for traffic if that's okay!

I had a thread on here a few weeks ago about a weekly hospital radio show I was doing, where I'd planned to do a feature on it about French music each week.

I've been asked to start off this week by bringing in a couple of songs from two different French musicians or groups. Only thing is i don't want to start off with my absolute favourites and am not really sure how to start it all off.

This is where you lovely lot all come in :)

Would you mind letting me know your two favourite French-language groups or musicians please? Or your two favourite French songs?

Thanks! :)

You've definitely tempted me to have a listen to Serge Reggiani with your comparison Gauche! :) I've heard a couple of songs (L'Italien and Le vieux couple) so far, but should look into more of his songs. What do you recommend?

Try Madame Nostalgie, La Maumariée and Il suffirait de presque rien Smile

HippyChickMama · 17/09/2017 21:39

Haven't RTFT so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but I love 'La Complainte de la Butte' though it's a bit melancholy

123MothergotafleA · 17/09/2017 21:44

Sur la point d'Avignon and Frere Jacques.
To be fair, they are the only French songs I know.

baffledcoconut · 17/09/2017 21:52

Anything by:
Zaz
Cœur de pirate

Happy memories of driving through France.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 17/09/2017 21:55

NE me quitte pas again
And complainte pour ste Catherine one makes me cry and the other never fails to cheer me up.

Revenant · 17/09/2017 21:59

C'est la ouate by caroline loeb. This baffled me as a kid and still does now.

ComingUpTrumps · 17/09/2017 22:00

Ahh yes baffled - Cœur de Pirate's fab. I also really like Vincent Delerm and Bénabar.

Ça se sent que c'est toi (telephone).

Que tu m'aime encore (Celine Dion).

Maelstrop · 17/09/2017 22:11

If you're working on the 26th, it's European Languages Day. Great opportunity to play some different languages.

SignoraCarmignola · 17/09/2017 22:32

I've spent a lot of today rediscovering lots of French songs I'd forgotten about. So, many thanks for this threafd, OP - I had a lovely time.

Nobody has mentioned Sardou yet -

ComingUpTrumps · 17/09/2017 22:46

Oooh Signora can't believe I forgot about that one!! I spent a couple of years teaching English in schools in France, and it was played at every party I went to. Brings back so many great memories :)

Doucement by Liane Foly

Ne pleure pas chausette (because a French exchange student song this to me in the 1970s and I despaired of ever hearing it again!)

SignoraCarmignola · 17/09/2017 23:25

Yes, I have lovely memories of when my children were little and they used to dance round the kitchen table to that song - it was one of their favourites.

GaucheCaviar · 18/09/2017 07:57

It would be SO GREAT if someone with time on their hands could turn this into a playlist!

Jasmin82 · 18/09/2017 14:18

There's a few songs from the rock-opera Mephisto-le-spectacle which are lovely. The ones I like most are:
Parfois
Mephisto (it's an instrumental track, so not sure if it counts)

heatherpurple · 18/09/2017 14:48

This is more "current" but avant qu'elle parte has a very catchy beat imo.

IcecreamMachine · 18/09/2017 15:01

Mistral gagnant by Renaud is beautiful and makes me cry and Emmene moi by Boulevard des Airs for something a bit more cheerful

MuddlingMackem · 18/09/2017 15:20

Thinking I should check out a few of these. The only ones I've heard are the ones that have made it into the UK charts, and the soundtrack from 8 Femmes. Grin From that 'Papa T'es Plus Dans Le Coup' is very catchy. :) (Just had to look up the title as I think of it as being called 'non papa'. Grin )

Fou du fafa is my favouritest ever French song.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 18/09/2017 15:52

Les Amants d'un Jour. Depressing, but so, so good.

Je me veux pas travailler by pink martini. Listen to it after Les Amants d'un Jour to cheer yourself up Grin
