What are your two favourite French songs? (Shamelessly posting for traffic!)

Hi everyone.

Sorry this is so boring but just posting for traffic if that's okay!

I had a thread on here a few weeks ago about a weekly hospital radio show I was doing, where I'd planned to do a feature on it about French music each week.

I've been asked to start off this week by bringing in a couple of songs from two different French musicians or groups. Only thing is i don't want to start off with my absolute favourites and am not really sure how to start it all off.

This is where you lovely lot all come in :)

Would you mind letting me know your two favourite French-language groups or musicians please? Or your two favourite French songs?

Thanks! :)

Another Vanessa Paradis song but Marilyn et John which gives me such happy memories of an extended stay in France I had about 150 years ago. It was always on the radio - listening now and it takes me right back to when I was young and pretty and full of hope

Ooh also does anyone on here like Indochine? They started in the Eighties, and have just released some new stuff. I think their new song is called La vie est belle - really good.

One of my all time favourites is Les Yeux Revolver by Marc Lavoine.

Criceta · 16/09/2017 13:28

I love L'Aventurier! Didn't realise they were still going, OP!

Ktown · 16/09/2017 13:28

Joe dessin - all his stuff

oldbirdy · 16/09/2017 13:29

Guillame Grand, Toi et Moi.

CoughLaughFart · 16/09/2017 13:34

Patricia Kaas - wonderful jazzy/bluesy voice.

I know some will mock, but Celine Dion's French language stuff is really good. Can't recall titles offhand, but PM me if you need specifics and I'll check Smile

Cali: C'est quand le bonheur?

Mickey 3d: Respire

Emilie Simon: Fleur de saison

Camille: Ta douleur

Kaolin: Partons vite, Je reviens

FishinthePerculator · 16/09/2017 13:39

Divine - Sebastian Tellier. Don't be put off by the fact it was a eurovision entry. I love it!

Also Je ne t'aime plus by Manu Chao. Again not a French artist but a great song in the French language.

LapinR0se · 16/09/2017 13:40

Pour que tu m'aimes encore by celine dion
L'envie d'aimer from Les Dix Commandments

user1473069303 · 16/09/2017 13:41

Oooh, I'd forgotten about Indochine. Love their greatest hits from the early days and also their "Paradize" album

filou87 · 16/09/2017 13:43

La Liste by Rose or Formidable by Stromae

WhyamIBoredathome · 16/09/2017 13:44

Renaud - hexagone
Patricia kaas - mon mec a moi
Zazie+ calogero face a la mer
Mc solaar - nouveau western

Agustarella · 16/09/2017 13:44

Yes to Charles Trenet! 'Verlaine' and 'J'ai ta main dans ma main' are my favourites of his. And 'Il pleut dans ma chambre' since it actually did rain in my bedroom before the roof was done, though I was somewhat less cheerful about in than Charles Trenet in the film!

Favourite two French (pop) songs of all time would have to be golden oldies I'm afraid.

'Les temps des cerises'

m.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl98BhU3Zic

(Was going to choose 'Vous êtes jolie' by Paul Delmet for other choice but couldn't find right recording on YT)

'Ninon'

My other half introduced me to the recordings of Dalida who I like a lot, but otherwise French pop has been pretty thin gruel since the war IMO. The stuff they play on Cherie FM makes Adele sound interesting in comparison!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 16/09/2017 13:46

Je ne vois que vous - Benjamin Schoos and Laetitia Sadier
Tous les memes - Stromae

TheNumberfaker · 16/09/2017 13:57

Patricia Kaas is amazing. Loved her when I was working in France mid 90s.

How about a bit of laisse beton?

NoodieRoodie · 16/09/2017 14:02

I'm with Branleuse louise attaques- Je t'emmene au vent or les rois du monde from Romeo and Juliette the musical

Xmaspost · 16/09/2017 14:05

L'élite by Trust

notsmartenough · 16/09/2017 14:06

ComingUpTrumps Yes! Although when I tried to remember the titles I kept getting them mixed up with Les Bicyclettes du Belsize.
French films not my specialist subject...

user1473069303 · 16/09/2017 14:06

Pascal Obispo: Pas besoin de regrets, L'important c'est aimer, Fan

Florent Pagny: Châtelet les Halles, Et un jour une femme

Patrick Bruel: Tout s'efface

Najoua Belyzel: Comme toi, Je ferme les yeux, M - Hey Hey Hey

Hélène Ségara: Elle, tu l'aimes, Sempre, sempre, Tu peux tout emporter

milliemolliemou · 16/09/2017 14:18

Ne me quittes pas - sung by Nina Simone, written by Brel

Tous les garcons et les filles - Francoise Hardy

Why do the French language bands have to do English a la Daft Punk to break into our market? they should clearly do some major marketing.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 16/09/2017 14:18

Zazie is great:

Eblouie Par la Nuit

Je veux

and this one where she's just singing in the street with her brilliant muscians,, it's great.

she has an amazing voice, style, and coolness about her, enjoy!

hackmum · 16/09/2017 14:30

I love Boum and La Mer but they are both terrible earworms - impossible to get out of your head once you've heard them.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/09/2017 14:34

I love Alizee, so upbeat.

Going to look at the other suggestions posters have made.
