Hi everyone.

Sorry this is so boring but just posting for traffic if that's okay!

I had a thread on here a few weeks ago about a weekly hospital radio show I was doing, where I'd planned to do a feature on it about French music each week.

I've been asked to start off this week by bringing in a couple of songs from two different French musicians or groups. Only thing is i don't want to start off with my absolute favourites and am not really sure how to start it all off.

This is where you lovely lot all come in :)

Would you mind letting me know your two favourite French-language groups or musicians please? Or your two favourite French songs?

Thanks! :)

SwedishEdith · 17/09/2017 13:04

Yes to Joe Dassin.

There's a great BBC4 documentary on French music which is repeated every now and then. There was great intense one about an eagle - I think the female singer committed suicide. Does anyone recognise which song I mean?

Merrylegs · 17/09/2017 13:21

Haven't read all (soz) so if not mentioned yet, Serge and Brigitte 'Bonnie and Clyde', or later version by Luna - both fab. (A woo hoo!)

And Juliette Gréco! I had tickets to see her last year, but it got cancelled as she'd been ill :(

Went to see Enrico Macias at the Olympia in Paris last January though, which was absolutely brilliant! He had everyone dancing in the aisles Grin Anyone else an Enrico Macias fan?

I've not seen Azafit mentioned, or did I miss him? OK, Armenian, but he sang in French, some of the most fabulous torch-songs I know!
I was lucky enough to see Moustaki live in his old age, what a performer! "Le Meteque" is probably my favourite, but all of his, really!
Brel, "Quand on a que l'amour" and "Sur le port d'Amsterdam" are particularly wonderful.
Anything Piaf. Non, rien ne rien...

OuaisMaisBon · 17/09/2017 17:02

Agustarella, is so positive, I love it! I'm wondering what sadness your DH has that it makes him cry when he hears it? Used to do my ironing to it when I was a student! (Now, that's sad!) On the other hand, has a jaunty tune but is a sad, sad, song, I think.
Brel is the one who makes me cry, I have to say, though ! And some Moustaki -
OP, thank you for giving me the chance to remember my student youth!

OuaisMaisBon · 17/09/2017 17:12

Sorry, agree with the PP who mentioned Mika's - fabulous! (I know his second cousin twice removed, bien sur Wink )
