To change my hairdresser after this?

Been using local hairdresser for about 3 years. It's a 10 minute walk from my house.

In the times I've been, they have persistently left hair dye all over my face and I've shown them pictures of the colour I want and the result is usually nothing like.

Yesterday I had an appointment for 11.30. I got there, got sat in the chair and showed them a picture of what I wanted (dark brown with caramel highlights). They said that was fine and they set to work. Throughout the appointment I got the feeling that they had squeezed me into an appointment that they didn't really have. One girl put the colour on, they got the apprentice to wash it off and dry it and then a different woman was set to cut it! I even heard them arguining in the back about who was cutting my hair. I ended up feeling quite unwanted there. Then one came out and asked if I actually wanted it cutting!! I didn't get the head massage I normally get, the trained hairdresser didn't even check the colour before asking the apprentice to wash it off, no toner got put on and the end result was just very dark brown hair with no highlights and dye all down the side of my face which won't come off (I'm going to look a twat for days!). I was then practically wrestled out of the chair without anyone even showing me the back of it (I ended up asking to see it!).

When I got home DH said he liked it but later shouted "Mona Lisa Hair Peach" at me.

AIBU to write this off as the nail in the coffin for this salon?

I would have stopped going the first time they left dye on my face.

Seems like they don't want you as a client.

They sound terrible.
I would go back or call them and speak to the owner.
Explain you gave them the benefit of the doubt by going back but enough is enough.
I'd also be asking for a refund.

Wide0penSpace · 16/09/2017 07:59

If you paid for highlights and can't see any go back and complain. They should put that right for you. I'd then find a new hairdresser.
What does 'mona Lisa hair peach' mean?

coffeekittens · 16/09/2017 07:59

Sounds shit, why have you been going back for the past 3 years?

I'd go back, complain and ask for your money back.

StickThatInYourPipe · 16/09/2017 08:00

OP YABU but only because a- you went back to them after the first time they did a shit job and b - to ever consider going back there.
I wouldn't go back if it was free tbh

SabineUndine · 16/09/2017 08:01

Did you pay? I would at least have asked for a reduction.

Coffeeandcherrypie · 16/09/2017 08:03

3 years of bad hair dyes? Are you a glutton for punishment?

One strike and they're out. Is how it should be.

jaseyraex · 16/09/2017 08:04

You should always discuss what you want done rather than show pictures. I used to be a hairdresser and people showing pictures of what they want is incredibly annoying. It's usually next to impossible to recreate the exact look on someone else. It depends if your hair is short or long or thick or thin or straight or curly or prone to frizz etc etc. It also depends on your face shape. We used to argue who would deal with the picture women...

If you've clearly no highlights when you asked for them I'd definitely complain and ask for a refund or for them to correct it. However if you left without complaining that may not be easy, you seen your hair and left without saying a word so to them you are happy with the style.

What is Mona Lisa Hair Peach? Lol

Chestnut24 · 16/09/2017 08:09

I would maybe put it all into a letter so that the manager can share it with their staff. They may even be grateful that they have some concrete evidence to use to raise standards. Maybe also point out that there are pribsbly many other clients who feel the same and don't speak out.

GinIsIn · 16/09/2017 08:09

Why on earth did you keep going g back? Confused And why do you even need to ask now? There's a saying that stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and still expecting a different result.....

inmyheadimthequeen · 16/09/2017 08:14

In the times I've been, they have persistently left hair dye all over my face and I've shown them pictures of the colour I want and the result is usually nothing like.

and it's taking three years and the opinion of Mumsnet to help you decide whether to go back? Confused. It's not easy to find a hairdresser you click with but at least give yourself a fighting chance - ask around for recommendations and then spend your money in a business staffed by competent people who want you as a client.

AJPTaylor · 16/09/2017 08:16

Unless you live in rural scotland why would you keep going back?
I live in a sleepy market town and there are 10 hair dressing options.

Gorgosparta · 16/09/2017 08:18

I have one colour all over and if my hairdresser gets a bit on my forehead he wipes it immeaditatly.

Why do you keep going back if you dont like the result?

ordinarywalls · 16/09/2017 08:19

In the times I've been, they have persistently left hair dye all over my face and I've shown them pictures of the colour I want and the result is usually nothing like.

Surely this part answers your question. After I read that bit, I was already ready to tell you to never go back. The rest is just horrendous! Definitely find a new hairdressers.

Ellisandra · 16/09/2017 08:21

Another wondering why you keep going back.
The time to complain was in the hairdresser, really.
I wouldn't necessarily mind having a different cutter than colourist - depends what the set up there is. It doesn't sound like you're actually booking in with a specify person, just booking an appointment. Very unprofessional for them to let themselves be overheard though!

Brittbugs80 · 16/09/2017 08:21

I always go in with pictures of colours I want and it's always explained if it won't get to that colour straight away and that it might take a few sessions to get there, did they explain that at all?

But on what you said with the arguing and hair dye, I wouldn't go back. My hairdressers is good though at getting any drops on my face and neck.

DiscoDiva70 · 16/09/2017 08:23

Yes why go back if they've continually bodged your hair? You're just giving them the impression you're a soft touch and will accept any old crap.

Go back to get a full refund and go elsewhere to have it done properly. If they refuse to refund then you can always name and shame them on social media!

Ellisandra · 16/09/2017 08:23

And why on earth are just leaving the dye on your skin?
Nail polish remover will have it off in a jiffy.

GreenTulips · 16/09/2017 08:27

I take pictures and never even get close to the requested style! Always end up with a basic bob! It's so frustrating

PickAChew · 16/09/2017 08:30

I'm surprised you have persisted with them for so long. Take your money elsewhere.

Neverknowing · 16/09/2017 08:36

YADNBU. I'd send them an email explaining all this as well. The way you've been treated is awful! Also ask for that refund.
