..is never ok.

But that's what happened. Before a public discussion about the Gender Identity in central London last night. 4 transactivists violently attacked her.

It is particularly shameful that there was an amount of preplanning this violence.

I am angry and sad in equal measure.

*attacking.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 14/09/2017 18:10

Attacking anyone of any age isn't right!

NotAgainYoda · 14/09/2017 18:15

Where can we find out more about this? Has it been reported anywhere?

NYConcreteJungle · 14/09/2017 18:18

Very sad to see her being victim blamed too.Sad

Magdalen Retweeted
@whatakerfuffle

The original video is dark and hard to follow so I have edited to make the sequence of events clearer

Magdalen's twitter account has the film and the posts planning the attack before it happened.

RaininSummer · 14/09/2017 18:20

It is shocking and women need to wise up to what is happening.

NYConcreteJungle · 14/09/2017 18:23

Someone linked to a YouTube video that has been edited, it showed a close-up of the hoody attackers face, alongside the face of someone who premeditated violence.

Datun · 14/09/2017 18:25

Several threads have been started about this. Appalling.

This one shows how it played out. The thread was started before the event, and was updated in real time.

I'm so tired of women being controlled and silenced by male violence.

OP posts:

Sorry. I didn't check for threads.

Thanks for the links

I've been waiting for Gallus Meg to report this, hoping she would. She is a sleuth extraordinaire.

Watch the second video. (Before it disappears).

Shock Angry WTFF!?!

GiantSteps · 15/09/2017 07:27

That video is shocking. It's evidence of a quite violent attack.

On Twitter, however, various misogynists are saying that the "transphobes" are lying and the victim was the violent one.

Liberal women need to wake up about this.

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 15/09/2017 07:35

I fear that they won't wake up. They will say oh dear and move on with the TRAs and women actual born women will be silenced.

peanut2017 · 15/09/2017 07:36

I've never posted about this issue and before joining here I never really understood the implications for women and our safe spaces. It's so scary and what frightens me more is that none of my female family or friends are aware or are talking about it. I need to start the conversation. Thanks to some of the amazing women on here for educating me. I have learned so much.

Rumandraisin1 · 15/09/2017 09:04

This is absolutely appalling but, sadly, not surprising given the widespread use of threats of violence and rape to silence women and to stop venues hosting discussions. They succeeded in stopping the original venue from hosting the event due to safety concerns but had been unable to stop these women from trying to meet privately elsewhere, hence the violent response. It is also the result of the absolute hatred of and dehumanising of women (or 'terfs' and 'cisscum' as we are called') within the transactivist movement ( see terfisaslur.com ).

It's worth pointing out that the women were going to this meeting to listen to a trans speaker who is gender critical - but the transacitivists hate trans people who disagree with their agenda as much as they hate the rest of us - and that representatives of the TRA ideology were invited to take part in the discussion and have a civilised debate of the issues but chose not to do so.

I fear we are going the way of the US where violence (and the open threat of violence) is increasingly used to keep women (and in particular lesbians) 'in line':

Datun · 15/09/2017 09:04

Gallus Meg has updated her post, showing that the violence was organised and premeditated.

She has screenshots of the now deleted call to arms by transactivists.

The 'head lock' fiction is infuriating. The atracker tried to steal her camera not realising it was strapped to her wrist and she defended herself. He threw it on the floor, you can hear it smash, and she held onto him to stop him from picking it up!

Women, allow yourself to be attacked in a public place surrounded by people, never defend yourself, otherwise you will be accused of starting it.

Here is the update showing deleted pages.

Holy shit Rumandraisin1 Shock I hadn't see that before.

That's just open violence and hatred for women. They don't want to be women, they want to destroy them unless they agree to have sex with them...

5rivers7hills · 15/09/2017 09:17

Fucking hell.

I want to do more than just comment on threads and get angry.

What can I actually do to help? What group/organisation would people recommend joining? Donating to? Attend meetings / protests?

Datun · 15/09/2017 09:27

Everyone can write to their MP. Scan the feminist boards for ideas on letters.

Many, many MPs have absolutely no idea about what any of this means.

There are more talks being planned. After this violence went online, some significant venues have offered to help by providing space.

This was the first talk, that I have seen in I don't know how long, that actually went ahead.

The tactics to shut down debate are incredibly effective, and have been almost entirely successful.

Fear. People are not just worried about their building, they are worried about their businesses, they are worried that they will be personally targeted.

I'm personally immensely grateful to mumsnet who have allowed debate on this site. They have also been threatened, but they don't believe in censorship.

It has allowed oxygen to flow through the opinions, discourse and feelings of many people. People from all sides of the issue.

The most you will ever get on here in terms of a bad reaction is a biscuit!

That's how you hold a debate.

HornyTortoise · 15/09/2017 09:28

The majority of TAs are just scummy misogynistic males exercising their male entitlement and extreme hatred of women. And yet, many female people support this. Or stay quiet for fear of offending said males. Its a damn disgrace and honestly, a very well thought out way of silencing female people. Make out you are the most oppressed of the oppressed and garner public support by latching onto genuine cases (LGB, transsexuality). Hey presto...magic formula to do whatever the fuck you want, and get away with it whilst still claiming to be the perpetual victim.

Luckily the supporters don't think into it beyond 'transphobia!!! bad' or else the entire house of cards would come crashing down in an instant. As TAs actually make life harder for transsexual people, and the transagenda is actually extremely homophobic too :/

I read a post from the woman who was attacked yesterday, where she refuses to give in to this violence and silencing tactics. I have to say, she is a braver woman than I. I stopped speaking on this issue outside of MN as the endless rape threats and threats of DOXing and such scared the shit out of me. I don't know how I would take physical aggression but fairly sure it would be an effective way of silencing me also.

Rumandraisin1 · 15/09/2017 13:25

This article provides the background to this incident.

shirtyQwerty · 15/09/2017 14:05

why is this male violence and not just violence?

Why are you gendering it?

I thought MN hated trans people anyway
