AIBU- Someone has used my unusual baby name

MmmmDonuts · 09/09/2017 20:32

I wanted my baby to have a one of a kind unique name.
I made up a name that I love. It's definetly never been used before.
(I realise this sounds dodgy already)

Anyway, my baby is 7 months old and someone in my town has just given birth and used the name.
I actually feel really gutted about it.

I realise I am about to be flamed in the comments.
BUt how can I feel less gutted about this? Meh

Oh what an absolute idoit

ThinkOfTheSwingers · 10/09/2017 22:33

OP please come back Grin

ThinkOfTheSwingers · 10/09/2017 22:34

I'm never sure if it's pronounced

Far-er
Or
Fa-rah

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 10/09/2017 22:35

I don't think she's going to come back if people keep calling her an idoit.

Balaboosteh · 10/09/2017 22:36

She's asking for second name suggestions.
I've suggested:
Farrah Wai
Farrah N'Wide
Farrah Sykanthroyah

Balaboosteh · 10/09/2017 22:37

Farrah Thanthat
(You can't say it...)

Ellie56 · 10/09/2017 22:40

Balaboosteh Grin Grin

Ellie56 · 10/09/2017 22:41

And I don't think the OP is coming back either.

steff13 · 10/09/2017 22:43

I don't think the OP is an idiot, but it's hard to imagine that no one in her life bothered to tell her she hadn't invented the name Farrah.

FizzyGreenWater · 10/09/2017 22:45

It's not too late to save the situation. Change your DD's name slightly? Even a letter would help.

Farrog
Forrrah
Farrap
Furrap
Frunk

lots of possibilities

MadMags · 10/09/2017 22:54

but it's hard to imagine that no one in her life bothered to tell her she hadn't invented the name Farrah.

I'm never sure either Swingers. I always pronounce it to rhyme with Sarah but I don't think that's right.

steff13 · 10/09/2017 23:02

It does rhyme with Sarah.

lindblum · 10/09/2017 23:32

@toastandbutterandjam - my high school best friend (born '89!) is a Clarissa! Unusual but not at all odd in our school days. I've always loved it as a name.

OP's not coming back is she. She's been rumbled! Not such an unusual name after all...

LadyLovelace · 10/09/2017 23:40

I wouldn't pronounce it to rhyme with Sarah. I'd pronounce it to rhyme with Sara.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 10/09/2017 23:47

I wouldn't pronounce it to rhyme with Sarah or Sara!

I say Farrah like Mo Farrah - Fah-ra.

Xoticdreamz · 10/09/2017 23:51

Farrah is a lovely name and I have never met one. Re Spike ... if any late 30's/ 40's watched Pressgang as kids one of the main characters was called Spike.

WattdeEll · 11/09/2017 00:16

I always associated Farrah with peas, now I know why thanks MN! Now if only I could find out why I always associate the name Agnes with nutmeg... Confused

steff13 · 11/09/2017 00:26

Lady, here Sarah and Sara are pronounced the same. How do you pronounce them?

Whattodo, Farrah Fawcett pronounced it to rhyme with Sarah. Maybe as a surname it would be Fah-ra, but I think as a given name it sounds better rhyming with Sarah.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 11/09/2017 00:35

here Sarah and Sara are pronounced the same. How do you pronounce them?

I pronounce them differently:
• Sarah - Sair-ah (Sair rhyming with Stair)
• Sar-a (Sar rhyming with Star)

Farrah Fawcett pronounced it to rhyme with Sarah. Maybe as a surname it would be Fah-ra, but I think as a given name it sounds better rhyming with Sarah.

Farrah rhyming with Sarah just sounds strange to me Confused

TheColonelAdoresPuffins · 11/09/2017 00:47

I'm with Whattodo on the pronunciation

steff13 · 11/09/2017 00:51

That's not it at all here. My daughter's name is Sarah. Whenever we say get name, people ask "with an H or without?"

steff13 · 11/09/2017 00:52

Wait, so you pronounce Farrah like "far" to rhyme with star? How do you work that out? It's ignoring an entire syllable of the name.

steff13 · 11/09/2017 00:53

Farrah rhyming with Sarah just sounds strange to me..
You've never heard anyone say Farrah Fawcett's name?

Beckywiththebadhair · 11/09/2017 00:55

I know someone named Phryne, pronounced Free-nee. She prefers to be called Emma.
