College and Pubic Hair

My DSister (16) has just started a beauty therapy course in college.

Yesterday she was told by a tutor that everyone is to grow their pubic hair (vagina) so they can practice waxing on each other and develop and understanding of how clients feel.

My DS and most of the other girls are horrified by this and don't want to do it. AIBU to be horrified at this demand? Surely the college can't enforce this on the girls?!

It's not common practice to do intimate waxing on fellow students/friends. You learn waxing, maybe on each other, or on those who attend for cheap waxing by a student.

There is no course which requires a participant to be depilated - it's totally inappropriate as if is a persons body and their choice, ditto trained piercers and tattooists.

Gottagetmoving · 08/09/2017 18:08

TBF you would probably confuse people more by referring to it as a vulva. It only seems to be on mumsnet that people get their knickers in a twist about this incorrect terminology

It's not terminology,...It's the wrong name for a part of your body. Why not just use the correct bloody name!

Flyinggeese · 08/09/2017 18:08

OP could you maybe ask HQ to rename your thread to make it a shout out for beauty therapists to comment whether this is normal or not.

I've certainly heard of beauty students practising waxing on each other as I said above however I'd fully expect it to be optional to participate. Having said that I'm not sure I'd want to be waxed by someone who hadn't had a Brazilian wax done to them.

Again though, they can't legally insist on the. Maybe it was just a request for volunteers?

Anyway, I hope this gets resolved for your sister.

Gorgosparta · 08/09/2017 18:08

Your opinion is based on a 16 year old half listening then creating drama, based on bollocks.

She doesnt have to get her vagina out.

You are worked up about nothing

FizzyGreenWater · 08/09/2017 18:09

Fortunately no chance of that happening at the ACME Beauty College as nobody will be wearing any on the instructions of the Tutor

Live the passive aggressive Grin OP you crazy mofo Grin

Dustbunny1900 · 08/09/2017 18:11

Ok so I guess this may very well be true, I did a bit of googling and I guess it is common practice (although I read bikini line vs full Brazilian )
i can see how this could pose a bigger issue than practicing blood drawing on each other due to the fact it's near a private area. There's gotta be a way to get out of it. Can't she like bring in a friend who could volunteer as tribute? 😂

handslikecowstits · 08/09/2017 18:12

Shine on you crazy diamond!

barefoofdoctor · 08/09/2017 18:12

But no one is asking her to get her vagina out, merely offer up her golden (or whatever colour) tuft of sex/mound of Venus to her classmate in a mutually beneficial and highly educational act of self sacrifice.

In tattooing you can buy fake skin, or use pig skin to practice on. Could she perhaps buy a fake 'vagina' or some sort of substitute from the local abattoir (or morgue - can one donate parts for the greater advancement of a hair free mons pubis)?

RoseAndRose · 08/09/2017 18:12

"It only seems to be on mumsnet that people get their knickers in a twist about this incorrect terminology"

That's because in RL good manners often mean you have to smother how ridiculous one finds it when people get terms wrong. Or perhaps it's just a reflection of poor quality sex ed?

Foxtrot92 · 08/09/2017 18:13

Be careful SerfTerf you've spelt 'love' incorrect! I'm sure FizzyGreenWater and her grammar squad will be on you like a ton of bricks soon Shock

At 16 your sister can only be doing NVQ level 2 beauty therapy. The waxing element of that course covers eyebrows, upper lip, chin, fore arms, under arms, full leg and bikini wax where the client remains in their underwear and the edges of the pubic hair line are tidied. It does not include intimate waxing such as Hollywood or Brazilian. That is covered in an intimate waxing course she would complete only after completing level 2 beauty therapy.

Fwiw having all the treatments performed on you is a very important part of the training as it allows the student to see what it feels like for the client and how different techniques, positioning etc affect the experience for the client. It really is important that she does it otherwise how can she ever understand what her clients mean when they discuss discomfort or a poor experience?

Gorgosparta · 08/09/2017 18:13

Op if some was talking about their arm, but kept calling it a leg....would you not say something?

SerfTerf · 08/09/2017 18:14

Well my phone corrects vulva to bulbs, so yeah maybe.

Lasagna · 08/09/2017 18:14

My DD just finished her level 2 Beauty therapy and they did a full wax not just a bikini, it was at the end of the year though so they knew each other more and were more comfy around each other.

Migraleve · 08/09/2017 18:15

only seems to be on mumsnet that people get their knickers in a twist about this incorrect terminology

It's only on mumsnet where people justify calling one body part the name of another as 'terminology'

Terminology doesn't mean using the wrong word Hmm

Hmm well it's possible that Serf was implying that you are 'living the dream' of the PA smiley so I will simply note the potential error for now. Thank you OP for bringing that to my attention. Now, back to the Fake Foof Fuzz Fandango.

Lasagna · 08/09/2017 18:16

Oh sorry, no. I'm mistaken. Yes she did it last college year but that was only for people staying on for level 3 and was part of their level 3 course.

FizzyGreenWater · 08/09/2017 18:16

WELL SHAVE MY BULBS! is a fantastic exhortation

handslikecowstits · 08/09/2017 18:17

I'll show you mine if you like. I'm not shy! Confused
