College and Pubic Hair

Foxtrot92 · 08/09/2017 17:09

My DSister (16) has just started a beauty therapy course in college.

Yesterday she was told by a tutor that everyone is to grow their pubic hair (vagina) so they can practice waxing on each other and develop and understanding of how clients feel.

My DS and most of the other girls are horrified by this and don't want to do it. AIBU to be horrified at this demand? Surely the college can't enforce this on the girls?!

You should forward this thread to BBC's watchdog

Absolutely no way did they practice catheterisation on each other, if so, that was a very odd medical school (or a crazy drunk night...!). Cannulation, blood taking, and the occasional NG tube maybe!

Yeah I've NEVER heard of people practicing catheterisation. NG tubes and saline IVs, definitely happens!

Flyinggeese · 08/09/2017 18:00

Why is everyone being so mean to the OP?!

Once when I was having a wax done I asked the therapist how trainees practise and she said that they all practised on each other while on her course. Said very matter of factly and I believe her.

Manclife · 08/09/2017 18:00

@Foxtrot92

Hair doesn't make DS recoils, getting her vagina out in front of other people does.

What happens if everyone in the class thinks this?

Gorgosparta · 08/09/2017 18:01

There's a difference between your eyebrows and getting your genitals out.

She isnt getting her genitals or her vagina out.

Firstly it was because she didnt know the other people, then because its a treatment she doesnt want (which is why the comparison of eyebrows was brought up) not because she doesnt want to get her vagina out.

Again.....she needs a waxing qualification to do brazilian waxin do shevwonr be getting her vagina out.

Anyway, it's perfectly possible to do a Hollywood wax (which your daughter won't be doing as she isn't qualified yet, it will be a high bikini line) whilst keeping a pair of paper pants on.

FallingOrbit · 08/09/2017 18:03

Fuck off and go join the grammar police

Are you sure you're quite angry enough OP? Has your DS been practicing on you by any chance?

handslikecowstits · 08/09/2017 18:03

Will she do my arse if I ask nicely?

FluttershysCutieMark · 08/09/2017 18:03

Too many people call a groin or vulva a vagina. I hope your sister gets it right before she confuses any clients.

TBF you would probably confuse people more by referring to it as a vulva. It only seems to be on mumsnet that people get their knickers in a twist about this incorrect terminology.

FizzyGreenWater · 08/09/2017 18:03

It's wonderful. But that's not the point. Her tutor did NOT tell students they had to grow their pubic hair. No. way. on. earth.

Flyinggeese · 08/09/2017 18:03

ghostyslovesheets why are you confused? Where has the OP mentioned a DD? It's been DS (sister) throughout.

Migraleve · 08/09/2017 18:04

But still. No one should have to have their privates waxed if they don't want to.

Correct. And nobody has to. She can say no. Problem solved.

FizzyGreenWater · 08/09/2017 18:04

handslike I am sure she will see your arse, just like OP just has Grin

Rinoachicken · 08/09/2017 18:04

Clients she waxes in the future may well also feel awkward and embarrassed 'getting their fanny out' even though it's their decision to have it done.

Having some experience of what that feels like, to help with empathy, sensitivity, the importance of preserving dignity with future clients is surely worth learning?

I support adult with severe learning disabilities. We have to drink/feed and be fed blindfolded etc so we know how it feels, how long it takes to actually chew something etc from the other persons point of view, especially if they are non verbal with limited mobility.

ghostyslovesheets · 08/09/2017 18:05

my mistake it's your sister - now I get it - I was so caught up in the drama of it all!

OP let your sister stand on her own two feet and stop getting so angry on her behalf

Foxtrot92 · 08/09/2017 18:06

ghostyslovesheets

Im allowed an opinion, no where does it say I'm doing anything to imply I'm not letting DS stand on her own two feet.

SerfTerf · 08/09/2017 18:07

I'm getting my arms waxed next week. Of course I don't mean my actual arms it's just what I call my legs.

😂

ghostyslovesheets · 08/09/2017 18:07

but your opinion seems to be making you quiet angry and bitey OP - maybe go for a walk or have a nice cup of tea ?

FizzyGreenWater · 08/09/2017 18:07

OP is losing control of what should have been a more good-natured thread. One never knows when the tigers will turn!

Pestilentialone · 08/09/2017 18:07

L2 bikini wax (knickers on)
L3 intimate wax
Tell your DSis to listen in class

Foxtrot92 · 08/09/2017 18:07

It only seems to be on mumsnet that people get their knickers in a twist about this incorrect terminology

Exactly.
