Them gays got a lot to answer for. Or are these Jewish storms?

cozietoesie · 05/09/2017 22:07

I'm hoping - just hoping - that 45 has a Damascene conversion to the perils of climate/change as a result of these events. (Informed, as appropriate, by some hard cold $ calculations: I doubt he'll notice the human misery.)

saffronwblue · 05/09/2017 22:27

Hope all is well Seneca and for everyone in the path. Talking of climate change, we have just been warned that south east Australia is heading for a summer of potentially catastrophic fires.

badbadhusky · 05/09/2017 22:40

Sorry to hear that Saffron.

All we need now is a plague of locusts...

orlantina · 05/09/2017 22:41

Trump is having a go at so many people that I'm surprised more stuff isn't coming out on him from people who he's had a go at and who can get dirt on him.

cozietoesie · 05/09/2017 22:46
Sad

How did your SIL get on, saffron?

cozietoesie · 05/09/2017 22:50

A CNN Money opinion piece.

Trump not pro-business

badbadhusky · 05/09/2017 22:59

It really feels like sentiment is turning against Trump.

Trump's decision on DACA is the ugliest and most cruel decision ever made by a president of the U.S. in the modern history of this country.

orlantina · 05/09/2017 23:05

You know in the Handmaid's tale when there's a sudden change in the law affecting women.

And women wonder why they didn't flee earlier?

I wonder how many people are leaving the USA before it's too late.

saffronwblue · 05/09/2017 23:12

Thanks cosie . SiL is doing ok. Feeling a bit guilty as her house was not flooded and she has many friends who were. DH is off to US next week and will stay with her for a few days.
Australian prime minister having a phone call with Trump today re North Korea. Hope it goes better than their last call!

cozietoesie · 05/09/2017 23:22

'Survivor guilt', I guess. (Of a sort.) I'm glad she was OK though.

SenecaFalls · 05/09/2017 23:29

Thanks, all. We are prepped and ready to shelter in place or to evacuate, as the need arises. Long lines and waits at the gas stations and at the grocery store, but I am glad that people are taking this seriously. I've lived in Florida for 40 years so I am familiar with the precautions. We do have a lot of people who have moved here recently and never been though this, but they seem to be listening, too. We haven't had one this big in a long time.

CupFullOfSpiders · 05/09/2017 23:36

Irma looks horrific Sad I hope you stay safe Seneca, and everyone in its path.
The DACA decision is just awful. My son wasn't born in this country, and if he was told to go back he would struggle unbelievably. He doesn't speak the language much, doesn't know the culture, it just seems inhumane. I'm hoping against hope that it will be replaced with something equally inclusive but.. it's hard to hope, isn't it.

Love this photo but argh. The situation is so cruel.

In the dim corner, we have Trump! In the dictator corner, we have Kim! Or is that mixed up?
CupFullOfSpiders · 05/09/2017 23:40

And in more pre-apocalyptic news - www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-05/fema-is-almost-out-of-money-as-hurricane-irma-threatens-florida

cozietoesie · 05/09/2017 23:57

Remind me. How much was 45 seeking to remove from the FEMA budget in 2018?

CupFullOfSpiders · 06/09/2017 00:06

cozie re Afghanistan, if only people listened! I'm sure if the human race ever expires, we'll leave behind a huge carved tablet reading

"Never get involved in a land war in Asia.
Or Afghanistan.
Never invade Russia in the winter,
Don't poke angry North Korean dictators with tweets.
(Also, watch out for the drop bears.)"

badbadhusky · 06/09/2017 00:08

This Guardian article just made me Hmm

In the dim corner, we have Trump! In the dictator corner, we have Kim! Or is that mixed up?
PerkingFaintly · 06/09/2017 00:14

Good to see you again, Seneca, but not good to know you're potentially in the line of Irma.

All very best, will be thinking of you.

saffron, thanks for the update about your SIL, I'd been wondering how she was.

lionheart · 06/09/2017 00:28

cozie the BBC provides the strangest answer to the question of who said that about Afghanistan ...

cozietoesie · 06/09/2017 00:28

I'm 'guessing' that the Harvey relief funding - pray that it doesn't have to include Irma - will be linked with some Wall funding in the congressional approval?

cozietoesie · 06/09/2017 00:29

Macmillan?? Shock

cozietoesie · 06/09/2017 00:31

I'm sure that it was before his tenure. Still..............

AcrossthePond55 · 06/09/2017 00:34

cozie, it wouldn't surprise me in the least! As a matter of fact, I expect to see the GOP try to hide Wall funding in just about every possible bill they can. The dems are going to have to go over every single line with a fine toothed comb!
