Any Edinburgh MNs around to tell me there are things to do ?

The rant is one of the funniest things I've read on here Grin

tabulahrasa · 03/09/2017 20:05

"Awaits slagging for my Edinbugger accent..."

It's not much better than Glaswegian tbh, the whole central belt is much of a muchness...

forfuckssakenet · 03/09/2017 20:11

😂😂😂 this must be a wind up

OnlyRose · 03/09/2017 20:11

Aw, I missed the rant! But thanks for this thread OP, I'm planning a trip to Edinburgh now to see the zoo lanterns and the light show at the Botanics.

ForalltheSaints · 03/09/2017 20:13

National Gallery of Scotland and the Scottish Portrait Gallery are worth a visit at any time of year. As is the Castle.

Shadow1986 · 03/09/2017 20:14

Be wet and cold but so cosy and Christmasy!!

Maryof1993 · 03/09/2017 20:17

I'm planning a trip to London for Christmas. Is it worth it, or will everything be shut?

Maryof1993 · 03/09/2017 20:21

I am wondering if anything is open

I believe they had electricity installed last year, so the shops can now all stay open after its got dark in the winter.

squoosh · 03/09/2017 20:21

An Edinburgher upthread admitted they had to google to see if anything in Glasgow would be open...

So it's not just a London thing.

53rdWay · 03/09/2017 20:24

"No, everyone decants to the castle and they pull up the drawbridge for winter?"

Let's start doing this for the Festival, though.

SangriaInTheSun · 03/09/2017 20:24

I missed the rant too. Sad Don't suppose someone could give me the highlights could they? Grin

hooochycoo · 03/09/2017 20:24

I live in Edinburgh too.....it's really not been that cold the last few years. No different really to the north of England really. Hardly any snow at all and last year I can only remember a few frosts. But then I live by the coast so get less of the snow and frost anyway.

Edinburgh's christmas and Hogmanay has got increasingly busy and commercialised the last few years.... I think now the majority of it is run from London by www.underbelly.co.uk/about who run Leciester Square christmas and lots of other events. The "German Market" and local traders that used to be on the mound have been pushed out ( www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/german-market-traders-snubbed-by-organisers-1-3142447) and it's all fairly generic everywhere with all the stalls being pretty much chain stalls selling the same stuff and employing people for peanuts..... such a shame... it's now kinda exactly like any of the other big christmas events in other big cities. Apart from the amazing architecture of course.

Ho hum. such is the world we live in. If you do come up then you'll still have a good time, it's a spectacle. and Edinburgh itself is wonderful. I just wish the council would stop allowing the city centre to be raped for 3 months each year by these big London companies who put little back into the local coffers and completely change the character of the city centre.

squoosh · 03/09/2017 20:25

It may have involved a 'fuck', a 'cunt' and MUCH USE OF CAPS LOCKS.

Ferrisday · 03/09/2017 20:28

I wanna see the rant!

XiCi · 03/09/2017 20:30

She basically said that if everyone in Edinburgh was as rude as people on the thread they could all Fuck Off and her ancestors will have escaped from Scotland to London in order to get away from the cunts Grin Oh yes and much more swearing and capital letters.

mintich · 03/09/2017 20:38

Instead of everyone in Edinburgh fucking off, why don't you not bother coming? Smile

morningtoncrescent62 · 03/09/2017 20:38

As an Edinburgher I wish I'd seen the rant in all its glory.

I would give the 'German' market a miss to be honest. It was lovely the first few years, but now it's just generic overpriced tat and very, very crowded. Plenty of other lovely things to do and see, though. I recommend getting the tourist bus on day 1, deciding what you like the look of, and taking it from there.

AgentProvocateur · 03/09/2017 20:40

Missed the rant but PMSL at the OP wondering if anything is open Grin Hot off the press - we've got running water and electricity now too, OP.

This is a perfect demonstration of how london-centric the press is, that people have this level of ignorance about another capital city in the UK.

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 03/09/2017 20:41

Looks like I missed a top rant there!

Tip for the future, OP - Google is your friend. That'll save you asking really stupid questions out loud, then getting shirty when some people respond bluntly. Wink

EllaHen · 03/09/2017 20:50

Rant was great. We are all TWATS too.

AgentCooper · 03/09/2017 20:50

@ChickenVindaloo2 Whit's wrang wi the weegie accent, eh? Ur ye feart ae it, eh? Eh? Wink Grin Wine

MrsPworkingmummy · 03/09/2017 20:53

Edinburgh I'd famystic in December!!!! A super Christmas market, as well as huge new year celebrations. We usually go for our wedding anniversary just before, or just after Christmas, and the atmosphere is always lovely, it's very busy and bustling and full of bars/resturants to keep you occupied.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 03/09/2017 21:01

@Agent Grin

sparklefarts · 03/09/2017 21:01

Grineastmids

for real though OP? I mean really? Come on!?!It's the capital city!!!! In the run up to Christmas. And Hogmanay (New Years...) ya know...fairly big deal up there. And you're asking if anything will be open?
