I'm really don't want to go to work tomorrow as I've had enough of selfish workmate.
I really love my work. I've been in this job for 10 years, find it fulfilling, great terms and conditions but if things carry on I will go mad.
Colleague had twins 5 years ago and returned to work 2 days a week. Since she had her DC she seems to think that they take priority over her job - even when she is at work. Her DM and SIL take care of them so I would assume they are reliable and trustworthy but she rings them every half hour to check on things. Every half hour WITHOUT FAIL. She will even excuse herself from meetings.
My main issue though is that every appointment she has, doctor, dentist etc she arranges on the days she is at work. We have flexible working to accommodate for this, more so for full time staff who work every day, so we take shorter breaks or start early/finish late to make up the time but she doesn't bother. She just goes off for an hour or so at a time and that's it. This has been going on for years and I've spoken to my boss but nothing is ever addressed with her.
Anyway, her DC start school soon and she came in last week with a list of things she just MUST attend at school - prize givings, parents in-school days, assemblies and I know if they're on either of her 2 working days she will just go.
She won't have holiday leave to cover this as she is off for most of the summer and I'm sure she will want half term etc now too.
I've just had enough and it makes me so angry that she thinks this is acceptable.

Daydreamerbynight · 19/09/2017 06:39

I bet all those who cry 'jealously', 'envy' and 'over invested' are the same sort of puss takers at work Grin

Daydreamerbynight · 19/09/2017 06:40

Ha! Piss takers!

OnionKnight · 19/09/2017 06:40

LagunaBubbles · 19/09/2017 13:00

I work for the public sector. Im surprised there hasnt been any public sector bashing here as Ive seen on other threads really.

Meow75 · 19/09/2017 14:14

I am late to this, but my thought was, if she's not clocking out and then going off site, surely she is breaking fire regulations, as no-one would be able to confirm that she is out of the building, and a fire-fighter might be sent in to try to find someone that isn't actually there. I was always told that was a really serious thing to do (going off site when no-one knows for this reason.)

Abouttoblow · 19/09/2017 18:12

Sorry! I had posted the outcome or thought I had. Been on a flight and just came back on. Apologies if I've built up a big cliffhanger Smile
Personnel lady (PL) came along to outline the rules and regulations around flexi policy. First point made was flexi on when you start work not when you come through the door. Colleague was only person to question this. Puzzled look and then "I'm not sure what you mean, are you saying if I come in and quickly grab my breakfast I can't flexi on till I've actually started working?" Answer: yes. She then asked if PL was sure that was right as it seems unfair. Then onto leaving for personal appointments, rules laid out and colleague says "Nobody minds if staff have to nip out, no one uses flexi for this" Is then told yes you have to and everyone else does. She then asked for a meeting in private with manager and personnel as she feels she is being discriminated against because she's part time???? There is no way she could possibly fit in what she needs to do if she has to flexi off for personal stuff. I need to stress that she was talking about her personal shit she has to do..... no mention of her actual work she needs to fit in.
So there it is, no accommodations, no arrangements, no reductions in pay. She is just totally entitled and a complete piss taker.
Again, apologies for "cliffhanger" situation Smile

@Abouttoblow

She is a blatant piss taker. If she still cant get all that through her thick skull, she will eventually come a cropper and get found out.

As per the earlier poster who noted about fire drills etc.

Now that your personnel folk have literally spelt out the flexi policy, if she does not conform, I can bet it wont be long before she ends up with an official warning/disciplinary - and/or have the flexi-time stripped from her. Its a privilege, not a right.

squadronleader87 · 19/09/2017 19:09

Fancy is right - flexi is a privilege. I've had difficulties in the past with a direct report, took HR advice and found that the threat of working fixed hours was more than enough to improve the situation.

The good thing about the outcome of OP's situation is that all staff got the same message at the same time. There can be no questions now and the individual will be very exposed if they take the piss again.

Enjoy your holiday!

WipsGlitter · 19/09/2017 19:38

How do you "flexi on" do you log into your computer or something?

Abouttoblow · 19/09/2017 19:45

Wips We scan our ID badges through a machine on the wall although you can manually adjust it for certain reasons which allows some people to take the piss

Jux · 19/09/2017 19:45

So she goes to get her breakfast whilst pretending to the system that she's working. Does she then eat her breakfast while pretending that she's working too?

Does the flexi-system allow her to eat at her desk, while still doing no work,? As opposed to having a sandwich open and taking infrequent bites from it randomly while you're working?

EBearhug · 19/09/2017 19:54

Surely the rules are the same, FT or PT? You have a 40h or 16h week. You have core hours of 10:00-15:00 or 10:00-12:00 or whatever is agreed for the day you normally work. And if you do your total hours and then some more, you earn flexi-time. When you have banked some flexi, you can start late or finish early as long as you're working core hours, or you can build up to take a half or full day. (I think we could take up to two flexi-days a month.)

There's no discrimination that I can see.

paq · 19/09/2017 20:15

YABU to go on holiday and not be able to update us daily on FTCF*

*Flexi Time Cheeky Fucker

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 19/09/2017 20:43

Of course it impacts OP, albeit in an indirect way as it affects morale. The situation is totally unfair on the members of staff who do log in and out and who don't abuse the flexi-time system. The slacker is getting paid for work she isn't doing, which in effect means that those who aren't taking the piss are earning less for the same. It's possible to "suck it up" in the short term but this chronic unfairness can really get to people and make work stressful. She's a cheat and I can't believe so many people think she's not a problem. Glad the HR lady put her straight on the rules. Let's hope this all gets sorted.

Abouttoblow · 19/09/2017 20:49

Jux She comes in and clocks on then goes to Costa to get coffee/muffinbrings it back and eats it before she does anything.

EBear Absolutely no discrimination due to being PT. I think it was the only thing she could come up with when it was made clear she is taking the piss.

Paq That made me laugh Smile I shall definitely update on FTCF when I get back. She will not take this lying down. There will be developments. I guarantee it

GreenTulips · 19/09/2017 20:58

Well I think you did a good job of bringing it up without it being directly at your instigation! Well played.

She will now shoot herself in the foot!

I know someone who regularly didn't click out for lunch and enjoyed a day off each month - totally unfair.

Flexi is a perk and shouldn't be taken advantage of.

If anything FT workers are at a disadvantage because they have to book doctors dentist etc during working hours and work it back, at least part time have a choice and could work additional days or move days etc to make it work

Jux · 19/09/2017 21:11

Blimey! Clocks on and then goes out to get brekkie! I assumed that at least there was a staff canteen and she was in the building! She's so far beyond expert pisstaker I don't know what to say!

Have a gd holiday, and well done for getting this issue nipped. Awaiting your return with bated breath.
