Susie has said that she's hash tagging #ipaidforthis as well as #gifted and #ad and #spon. Give her a break. I didn't like how she first responded to this thread, but I guess in the heat of the moment and in the face of perceived criticism, it's kind of understandable. We're now getting the more measured responses as things have been mulled over, and surely it's a good thing that they're being more transparent?

I'd never followed any of these before but I'm actually liking Susie (even after what she said. I can rise above it even if she can't Wink) and Mother Pukka seems lovely and very funny. I'd kind of hesitate to buy MP's book at the moment though as it would seem all the reviewers on Amazon are fellow Instagrammers who are thirsty for shoutouts to grow their own brand Hmm I'd love an honest review of it.

I don't follow her, so didn't know she was tagging gifted, ad, and spon as well. Kudos to her for the full disclosure then.

DoomGloomAndKaboom · 12/09/2017 22:04

I follow Susie - she has always been clear about when she's been sent something/it's an ad/promotion etc.

Now she's also going to specifically say when she has paid for something, with #ipaidforthis. Plus #gifted. Rather than just say in posts without the #, I think.

She also makes the most beautifully squishy fat babies. She has not labelled them #spon or #ad nor has she said she paid for them so presumably she'll just have to label them #imadethis

#irrelevanttothethreadentirely

Leeeleeee · 12/09/2017 22:10

Good on Susie! I thought her response was just fine.

Leeeleeee · 13/09/2017 00:34

WipsGlitter a lot of their followers would be middle to high income young families. So their situation means the plight of young kids in a third world country will likely strike more of a chord, and their means will allow them to donate. I think it makes perfect sense.

NC

It's a lot of fakery and pretence. I know a couple of well known instamums through work, and have been to a few events pretty much exclusively attended by instamums. Some of the women I've met moan about some of the other instamums privately, but I see they still post fawning comments on each other's posts. Whilst I'm sure there are some genuine instamums friendships in there, the whole sisterly support is a bit of a sham with some of them.

fivefour3twoone · 13/09/2017 22:54

Urgh the fawning...lets build each other up, parenthood is soooo hard, the sisterhood, supporting small businesses (fellow insta shite business ideas) yada yada yada

Underparmummy · 14/09/2017 11:15

Agree on the small businesses producing random crap. Reminds me of all the MLM companies imploring us to support THEIR FAMILY. As if bigger businesses aren't employing people!

I won't be buying any of the so called 'books' either. Pretty sure nothing enlightening is contained in any of them.

I started following a few mums after this thread and the only ones I'm still following are esthermcoren who has the most hypnotic way of talking, and just seems quite honest and funny, and susie verill who despite her crap response to this thread is actually really funny and seems pretty down to earth.

fivefour3twoone · 16/09/2017 14:09

Her partner makes me cringe - I didn't not know why

WipsGlitter · 16/09/2017 16:01

Whose partner?

fivefour3twoone · 16/09/2017 16:10

Susies

800msprint · 16/09/2017 16:12

Sorry should explain the link - it's good! Influencers are going to made to be more transparent. Mumsnet not mentioned but I bet it has 'influenced' the decision! Great news

Leeeleeee · 16/09/2017 22:49

fivefour3twoone its that kind of comment that derails this thread and gives people the wrong impression about MN Confused.

WipsGlitter · 19/09/2017 19:36

Does anyone follow Anelli Bush? She constantly showcases stuff "bits" and loads of clothes but is very vague about whether it's purchased or gifted. I assume gifted.

nandio · 21/09/2017 16:42

It's the ones that have long-running relationships with brands that get me. You think they've just come across a real gem in M&S/Aldi/Sainsburys/TKMaxx/LaRedoute when in reality they are in a contractual relationship with that company to 'promote' their goods.

The whole 'I just popped into TKMaxx and look what I found' thing really grates on me. Why not just say up front, these are the brands that I will be working with and I will try and find great bits to showcase that I think you (my audience/followers) will like.

I am not sure if collaboration is the right word here for when a blogger works with a brand but I would like to see a hastag collab (or something similar) on any such posts (i.e those companies that the blogger is 'affiliated' to).

Don't get me started on affiliate links. Again, the lack of transparency over these bugs me. Blogger wears new dress, doesn't mention it at first on Stories then says a few snaps later 'loads of you have been messaging me about this dress, so I guess I'd better tell you where it's from, oh and here's a handy link to it'. Then surprise surprise up pops an affiliate link when you click on it.

Then, as if that is not bad enough, there is no record of this whole thing as it disappears after 24hrs and interestingly is never featured in a post.

So yes, I get that these people are putting a lot of time and effort into their accounts/content and I'm completely fine with them getting paid for what they do...just don't be disingenuous about it. Tell us who your contracts are with and that way we won't feel hoodwinked.

DillyDilly · 21/09/2017 17:11

...#Does anyone follow Anelli Bush? She constantly showcases stuff "bits" and loads of clothes but is very vague about whether it's purchased or gifted. I assume gifted"..

I've noticed this myself, also some of the 'fab bits' she showscases are put up for sale on her blog-shop, some with a description of never worn, particularly shoes. For transparency and integrity, if she's not going to wear something, she should return the item and not showcase.

Doesmybumlook40 is another fashion blogger that isn't great at clearly mentioning gifts, etc. Yesterday she instagrammed, think it was Olivia Rubens dresseses that she was trying on, and wearing one today - I suspect it was a 'gift'.

Leeeleeee · 21/09/2017 23:49

MOD and MOF trip is a bit odd. They're showing wonderfully happy people and villages. Which is awesome but doesn't motivate me to give to the water aid cause?

WipsGlitter · 22/09/2017 09:03

I was thinking that too. They've not, as far as I could see, done any hard sell or pitch for money.

wineusuallyhelps · 22/09/2017 10:39

MOD did do an insta-story in which she said how she’d spoken to a midwife who had no choice but to get dirty water to use while looking after women in labour, whereas where MOD works there is hot and cold running water in each room. It did make me think.

WipsGlitter · 22/09/2017 14:02

But did it make you donate?! Which I assume is the point of the trip.

wineusuallyhelps · 22/09/2017 15:40

No...!

Think they’ve been too subtle.
