I am making a potato salad for a bbq tomorrow. Using jazzy new potatos, Mayonnaise, little bit of Dijon mustard, spring onions, dill and chives ontop (more for garnish really)

AIBU to bash up a few boiled eggs and throw them in aswell i think it would be yum!

Yuk I hate boiled eggs. If you have to have those stinky things don't give me any.

MsHarry · 01/09/2017 22:18

Yum yum yes please!

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/09/2017 22:20

And gherkins. You need Mrs Elswood's Haimische Cucumbers or the sweet and sour ones chopped up in it too. Not cornichons, they are too sour.

cardibach · 01/09/2017 22:24

Otherwise it'd be like coleslaw without the carrots
Hassled in what way?
Coleslaw - white cabbage, onion, carrot, maybe done red cabbage, mayo
Potato salad - potato, onion, mayo.
At what point does not having egg make one of those seem like the other?

OliviaStabler · 01/09/2017 22:26

Why not do a separate dish of egg mayo?

GriseldaChop · 01/09/2017 22:27

My mum always did potato salad with onion, boiled egg, peas, and salad cream not mayo. I love it like that but I'm guessing it may be controversial....!

SacreBlue · 01/09/2017 22:28

I loved my SA friend for sharing her potato salad recipe which included eggs & condensed milk.

Not only sounds filthy, it so, so, deliciously is.

Hassled · 01/09/2017 22:31

cardibach - because it's potato, onion, mayo, egg. That's how. Take away the egg and you might as well take away the carrot (I can't believe I'm typing this).

Cailleach666 · 01/09/2017 22:34

No.

Potatoes- white and mushy
Eggs white and mushy
Mayonnaise - white and mushy

Whole thing is white mushy sloppy ploppy mess.

If you really must have a potato salad then far better with a vinaigrette and herb dressing.

Doggoslothlady · 01/09/2017 22:37

Boiled eggs chopped up on top for decoration is what me, my mum, and my nan do! Yummy !!

NauticalDisaster · 01/09/2017 22:39

Mmm, love boiled egg in potato salad.

Changeschangechangeagain · 01/09/2017 22:51

According to my family -the real traditional English potato salad was with salad cream only - added to hot potatoes with chopped spring onions.

The one with eggs, gherkins and spring onion is the Jewish/American version?

The German version tends to have meat added (bacon or ham usually), no eggs and with chives. There's less potato as well.

Rosieposy4 · 01/09/2017 22:52

Naw, grimy. How to spoil a good potato salad.

CatsPurr · 01/09/2017 22:56

Blurgh. Its so disappointing scooping a big dollop of potato salad on your plate and digging in and being met with egg texture and taste. Grim

Jins · 01/09/2017 23:05

I wish I'd never read this. Now I have to cross potato salad off my list of foods that people can't go wrong with.

Eggs! Grim. I hate boiled eggs.

flownthecoopkiwi · 01/09/2017 23:08

Get your sausage and hot dogs out of the potato salad. Ewwww

thisismadness77 · 01/09/2017 23:11

Always do this.

NauticalDisaster · 01/09/2017 23:15

salad cream is vile, never use it!

SilverySurfer · 01/09/2017 23:17

If you add eggs to potato salad when there is absolutely no reason to do so, you run the risk of a certain number of your guests not eating it because they hate boiled eggs. Why would you do that?

ticketytock1 · 01/09/2017 23:19

You can't have potato salad without eggs!
Cubed baby boiled potatoes with the skin on
Mayo
Spring onions
Cooled boiled eggs
Salt and pepper
Fucking heaven!

Resurgam2016 · 01/09/2017 23:20

Nooooooo please don't.

Unexpectedly coming across a bit of slimy egg in a delicious potato salad would set me back decades in terms of boiled egg phobia therapy.

It's just not worth the heartache

Ribrabrob · 01/09/2017 23:20

I'm scared you're going to lose friends over this, OP! Just don't do it, please :(

ticketytock1 · 01/09/2017 23:22

See those of you who are saying it's vile... please try it. The recipe I just posted is to die for. My sister and I have been known to eat a whole container load of the stuff. It's awesome.

ticketytock1 · 01/09/2017 23:23

Resurgram

The egg won't be slimy, it needs to be hard boiled

Resurgam2016 · 01/09/2017 23:25

tickety a boiled egg by any other name would still be a boiled egg. A cold one at that.

Bleuggghhhhhhhh Sad
