To not understand why the nurse was arrested?

Why would you arrest someone for refusing to take blood from someone unconscious?

Was the policeman on glue?!

Even if say it was actually policy, surely you just ask for a superior and medics are allowed to refuse to perform any procedure personally?

It hard to comment without knowing the full story.

scurryfunge · 01/09/2017 16:31

Any link please?

Sirzy · 01/09/2017 16:31

What's the story?

OddBoots · 01/09/2017 16:32

Is this about something in real life or the storyline on Chicago Med?

Neutrogena · 01/09/2017 16:32

Because the police in the USA can be knobs with a power complex?

exisaknob · 01/09/2017 16:33

It's in the DM Blush

I tried to google a different link but having little luck linking. It's Utah I think.

Real life

I think the OP may be referring to this story
www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/09/01/this-is-crazy-sobs-utah-hospital-nurse-as-cop-roughs-her-up-arrests-her-for-doing-her-job/?utm_term=.541f94c0fda2
She was probably arrested because the police officer is badly trained or overzealous.

Tiredemma · 01/09/2017 16:34

The police is the US are power crazy freaks

exisaknob · 01/09/2017 16:34

DM had video of arrest. I expected to watch and see his point. I didn't

OP posts:
Weebo · 01/09/2017 16:35

She wasn't officially arrested AFAIK. The dickhead cuffed her and stuck her in his police car for a few hours then let her go.

She was treated disgracefully.

exisaknob · 01/09/2017 16:40

Thanks for the better links!

Scrowy · 01/09/2017 16:40

I wonder if he would have responded the same way if it was a male doctor saying no to him rather than a female nurse.

BlackHillsofDakota · 01/09/2017 16:41

That video is shocking, that poor nurse just trying to do her job.

FunkyChunk · 01/09/2017 16:41

That is just disgraceful, what is going on in the US?!

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/09/2017 16:42

Jeez that poor woman.why aren't the police familiar with the very laws they have to work within themselves?

They would also have had to arrest her had she illegally obtained said blood wouldn't they?

She was fucked either way :(

Shocking treatment

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/09/2017 16:42

And would blood obtained illegally even be able to he used in any case the police built?

Gingernaut · 01/09/2017 16:42

Well, the coroner will be able to take samples now surely?

Nikephorus · 01/09/2017 16:43

Why would you arrest someone for refusing to take blood from someone unconscious?
Because there were too many witnesses to get away with shooting her.....
(I may only be half joking Hmm)

exisaknob · 01/09/2017 16:44

Even if it was actually legal. Can a medic not decline to perform a procedure on a patient personally if they wish?

I always thought they could... but had to obviously get someone else willing to

ineedamoreadultieradult · 01/09/2017 16:45

The police in America have too much power for the amount of training they are given in my opinion.

Crowdo · 01/09/2017 16:46

Jesus!!

ikeadyounot · 01/09/2017 16:47

Black Lives Matter

Sidge · 01/09/2017 16:47

I saw this on a news feature. As a nurse I think it's terrifying, and I can completely understand why she refused to do so.

I can only guess the police officer was on some sort of power trip. I doubt he had any grounds to arrest her.

noeffingidea · 01/09/2017 16:49

exisaknob no they can't, other than perform or assist at an abortion. That is in the UK, so presumably is the same in the USA.
Of course HCP's can't generally withhold care on the basis of their personal feelings.
scrowy a better question would be 'would she still be alive if she was black'. Really don't think this is a feminist issue.
