AIBU - Nursery

sk505 · 29/08/2017 18:36

My daughter is 16months and goes to nursery twice a week.
In our religion, girls' nappies are not changed by boys and girls must be dressed with dignity. nursery are aware of this.
Today, I went to fetch her and she was running around in just a nappy. No clothes at all. This was extremely upsetting as I know male members of staff walk through and around the nursery. I'm not making any personal comments or any judgements, but it is against our religion. It transpires that her clothes were all clean. Her spare clothes were available and she has been well behaved. No one knows why she was without clothes for over an hour.
AIBU to cause a storm over this,?

Fine to have a belief system OP, but if it means so much to you, why be so reluctant to state what it actually is? Just name it surely? Otherwise you must see that people will suspect that you're a "lone wolf" with these beliefs - and possibly unhinged.
Your evasive answers just make your posts seem manipulative and ridiculous.

Barbie222 · 29/08/2017 22:35

Holy shit I can't believe people are questioning the OPs religious beliefs and passing judgement

Yes, how very dare we all.

I for one am quite glad that there's historically been a bit of questioning and debate around religion. It's good to have a bit of wriggle room with some of the Old Testament.

blacksax · 29/08/2017 22:36

As I said before, I think I know which religion this is. There's one I have come across in my professional career which seems to fit. If I'm correct, then there is a reason for her not answering.

Ummmmgogo · 29/08/2017 22:38

and that reason is black? don't leave us hanging lol

pi1ates · 29/08/2017 22:39

Oh religion of great mystery - reveal yourself!

1-1 care in a nursery.

Gosh there must be a huge amount of staff in that nursery

Surely easy to find out unless the 1-1 had gone AWOL?

passmethewineplease · 29/08/2017 22:44

Why is the religion such a big secret? Hmm

I find it baffling how people can blindly follow religion. It seems so weird to me.

Toddlers and modesty shouldn't really go in the same sentence.

LineysRun · 29/08/2017 22:44

The 1:1 was a bit shit

maudeismyfavouritepony · 29/08/2017 22:44

Your wishes were not carried out so you should complain. But, the only person affronted is YOU. You are imposing your beliefs on your child.

Your child hasn't suffered in any way so maybe be mindful when you do complain. She was probably enjoying the freedom.

Her spare clothes were available and she has been well behaved.

What on earth has her behaviour got to do with it? Confused

pp2017 · 29/08/2017 22:45

YesI agree, in the right place and context, but on a mummy forum where another mother asked if she was being unreasonable to be upset that her child's nursery didn't follow her wishes?

Because really that's what it boils down to, the religion/culture thing is irrelevant IMO.

Would people still be telling the OP she was being unreasonable and ridiculous if the nursery had fed her Jewish child pork, or her vegan child had been given milk? Didn't think so......

HappylandToysEverywhere · 29/08/2017 22:46

How ridiculous. I've never heard of any religion that denotes this. If the weather is hot then you are putting your child at risk of having a fit. Safety first before Religion please. They're children not dolls!!!

toomuchhappyland · 29/08/2017 22:46

Very observant Orthodox Jews tend not to use the internet for non-religious reasons. I think it unlikely they'd post on MN.

dollydimplenotsosimple · 29/08/2017 22:48

blacksax

What is the reason for not answering it?

Honestly, the basis of most of the world's great problems have their roots in religion. This is just another example of it. Imposing modesty on a baby and expecting others to follow it.

You can keep your religion OP, it sounds shit.

pp2017 yes many many people think all religions are equally ridiculous. and many people think it's neglectful to feed a child a vegan diet so had that happened, she would be getting similar responses!

dollydimplenotsosimple · 29/08/2017 22:49

PP2017

Anyone who imposes veganism on a child wants their head looked at as well

HappylandToysEverywhere · 29/08/2017 22:54

I'm sorry but there is no mainstream Religion that requires this. It sounds like an excuse to be controlling. Just stating my opinion.

ChocolateRicecake · 29/08/2017 22:54

Aside from any religious aspect. I would be concerned about a nursery that is supposed to provide 1:1 care but yet a baby can be left for an hour while people noticed her clothes were there but nobody checked why they hadn't been out on. Where was her 1:1 care during this time?

^This. The nursery agreed to terms (as opposed to stating they couldn't be accommodated) so contact staff should have known and the situation been avoided. If it had been something less controversial people would pushing to find an answer, I'm sure.

As much as I disagree with the beliefs and am curious as to reasoning, it's not really relevant.

CoteDAzur · 29/08/2017 22:55

"I can't give too much info without outing myself. "

Nobody else has your religion?

Is it a private religion?

Hmm
Out2pasture · 29/08/2017 22:56

my experience of very strict religious orders is that they tend to not use nurseries and have a tight knit circle of like minded members who assist them with child care. no clue what this religion is.
