To wish schools would enforce uniform rules

So DD wants to wear black trainers for school but the school says no branded trainer type shoes. Last year 'everyone' wore trainers and nothing happened. The school also say minimal makeup, minimal jewellery, no coloured nail varnish, no fake nails, no shortened skirts but why then do half the girls look like they are going clubbing. Why am I constantly arguing with DD about this when the school just makes rules but doesn't follow them through? I feel like am fighting a loosing battle.

WIBU to ask the school to actually enforce their uniform rules this year?

I just think of all the kids who approach me every year in September begging me to be their teacher again, because their new teacher can't handle the class.Kids actually prefer rules and consistency, in the end
Yes yes yes!

I had some illuminating chats with my y11s after they'd gone on study leave. Apparently some teachers are good banter when you're in y7-9 & 'it doesn't really matter', but you wouldn't want them at GCSE if you want to do really well. To quote them 'don't get me wrong, they're nice and you'd probably pass but you wouldn't do really well because they spend too much time having banter with the ones who don't want to learn'

Agree maisy

My children all seem to prefer strict (but fair) teachers

Dd especially hates what she terms 'soft' teachers

Yes, I thought the Head on last night's Educating Greater Manchester was good. I think I'll enjoy this series more than some of the previous series where the kids seemed to get away with murder.
