These types of stories get me upset but also angry (at the other person, not her)

Basically, a 72 year old woman has blown her entire life savings on her 27 year old Nigerian husband trying to get him a visa to come to the UK. They met after he messaged her on Facebook and they chatted for hours despite the age and 4000 mile gap.

I know it's her money and really none of my business but I feel really sorry for this woman and do not think for one second he married her out of love.

At least the officials in the UK are onto him though!! It sounds like they're coming out with very sensible decisions to me.

IdaBiscuit · 25/08/2017 10:28

Fuck it she seems happy enough to me.

Would you feel so sorry for a 72 year old man from the UK who had fallen in "love" with a 27 year old woman from a poor country and had been fleeced of their money?!

Yes

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/08/2017 10:37

There are many more of these women unfortunately, personally, I don't get it, at all, what are they thinking ?
The chancers from afar, will keep on, keeping on, trying their luck.

Anyone can feel sorry.

A better question would be "would you be happy to pay for this ladies rent and living expenses from benefits after she blew all her money on this foolishness ?"

Would that get a "yes" Hmm

Nameynamechangeforthis · 25/08/2017 10:40

On the other hand, she seems to have done ok out of it.. A romance, a consumated relationship with a 27 year old.

He, on the other hand, has gone through all this and still no visa....

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 25/08/2017 10:42

lurking that's more like it!!

Yes I feel sorry for her
No I don't feel sorry enough for him.... he needs to stay where he is as he will cause this woman more grief long term

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/08/2017 10:52

There are many men that fall for this

But we view it differently he is getting a young attractive women to have great sex with and she is getting money

Maybe she is having the best sex of her life people of all ages do silly things when infatuated

Piewraith · 25/08/2017 10:54

I feel sorry for these people because they are lonely but I also don't in a way. They are being greedy and thinking they can get sex/a relationship with someone much younger and more attractive than is realistically on offer.

If it was a scheme where they thought they were helping orphans or something I would feel more sorry.

It's similar to people that get scammed in get rich quick schemes, if they hadn't been greedy for money it wouldn't have happened.

JetBoyJetGirl · 25/08/2017 10:54

He's no different to a sugar baby surely?

astoundedgoat · 25/08/2017 10:55

Completely not the point, but where on earth was she staying, and for how long, that she managed to spend £6k on hotels in Nigeria?

I'm surprised that her family are (allegedly) supporting her in all of this.

HerOtherHalf · 25/08/2017 10:56

Maybe she knows exactly what the score is and thinks it's money well spent.

intergalacticbrexitdisco · 25/08/2017 10:58

OtherHalf - my thoughts exactly. Who wouldn't like a last hoorah? ;)

minionsrule · 25/08/2017 11:00

Why doesn't she try moving over there if its not about a visa for him? Read too many of these stories over the years, once the guy gets here he buggers off

ChuffMuffin · 25/08/2017 11:04

By marrying him, she gained the right to Nigerian citizenship, so she could go and live over there. She could have saved herself a large chunk of the £20K if she did that, but I'm sure her husband doesn't want her to move there. :(. Her poor family.

Viviennemary · 25/08/2017 11:05

I'd feel sorry for people conned even if they'd been a bit foolish.
