WIBU to tell colleague she shouldn't have a dog?

thesleepystorm · 23/08/2017 13:50

I know I should mind my own business but...my colleague is about to purchase a pug puppy. She found it on the pets4homes Hmm website. She lives in a top floor London flat (where she isn't allowed pets anyway, she rents), she is out all day at work and then the gym so about 12 hours a day but does not intend on employing a dog walker because it's too expensive, nor does she intend on getting pet insurance for the same reason. Yet she has spent ££££££ on an expensive bed, toys and carrier for this dog. She has never owned a pet before.

I really want to say something to her regarding the above - particularly warning her off pets4homes - but I think she might tell me to sod off. But it makes me so cross!!! WIBU to say something?

Just keep telling her how stupid this idea is, not much else you can do until she has the dog and can be reported. I fell out with a friend for over 6 months once because she wanted to get a dog - I suggested taking an hours walk at least once a day, rain or shine, as practise, as well as starting to save for vets and injections etc, she thought that was stupid and I told her she was selfish. Like your colleague she was time and space poor and the dog would have suffered. She didn't get one and hasn't even mentioned wanting one again in years.

Booboostwo · 23/08/2017 20:28

My aunt and uncle did a similar stupidity many years ago. They got a cocker from a puppy farm and kept him in an apartment for the first year of its life so it would not get frightened by the city (?!!!!). He was the scariest dog I have ever seen. He bit countless people, my aunt on her breast, he broke the skin; my mum on the face, he run across the room for no reason, jumped on her and bit her; anyone who touched his tummy after he approached you and turned on his back.

Your colleague is a monumental idiot. Show her this thread. She shouldn't have a stuffed dog, much less a real one.

onemorecakeplease · 23/08/2017 20:31

That's awful, poor dog

We rescued a dog and I feel guilty leaving him for even a few hours! I'm in bed with a really sore head just now and I'm feeling awful because I'm not with him.

She really does not deserve a dog. Can you inform the breeder she is getting it from? Would they let her have the dog if they knew?

Softkitty2 · 23/08/2017 20:36

Please say something. The reality of pet ownership is so much more responsibilty.

Please please for the dogs sake

pigsDOfly · 23/08/2017 20:40

The OP has spoken to her colleague Softkitty. Predictable the response wasn't positive.

Eleventybillionfucks · 23/08/2017 20:49

Id also try zoopla and try track the bank down or you could visit one of her neighbours and forwarn them of what she is doing and they can then tell the bank themselves. Having a dog in an apartment is doable but it is ten times as hard as having a dog in a house and she clearly isn't aware of any of those responsibilities Angry

Laurat859 · 24/08/2017 21:17

Argh I can't stand it when people who are out of the house for long days get dogs! This makes me so cross. People want the novelty of a lovely dog, but they don't think about the dog's feelings. I'm sure she would love and care for the dog when she is home, but she needs to think about it's well-being. I would like to say you should say something to her, but sadly I doubt she would listen. I once confronted somebody I worked with about having dogs and leaving alone all day every day and she argued that it is what the dog gets used to. Well I'm sorry but how is it fair that a dog should have to get used to this? What kind of a life is it?

thesleepystorm · 25/08/2017 16:28

I just wanted to update. She has bought the bloody dog.

She's now saying she wants to breed from her to make money. My heart is breaking for this poor creature

Is there anything I can do Sad I know what street she lives on but not which block of flats is hers

I just can't bear the thought of it being forced to breed

JigglyTuff · 25/08/2017 16:36

Will anyone else know where she lives?

JigglyTuff · 25/08/2017 16:36

She won't breed from it - she won't keep it that long.

I hate this woman and I haven't even met her. Does she have any compassion at all or are animals just objects to her? Does she have any idea how many dogs are put down every week in this country because of idiots who keep churning out puppies for money?

I would struggle to be professional at work tbh, I would despise her too much.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 25/08/2017 16:40

OP, if you know her full name and general location you could look her up on 192.com and find her full address. Also, get onto her landlord. Do you know what bank it is that owns the flats?

Eleventybillionfucks · 25/08/2017 16:43

Ask your boss to step in and help ? They'll have all her details

thesleepystorm · 25/08/2017 16:44

I've tried 192

I know what bank owns the flats yes, but I wouldn't know who to contact there

jiggly I wish I could believe that but I know how money orientated she is

My boss says she's staying out of it

Huffletuff · 25/08/2017 16:46

I have a pug. She won't have it long - they have surprisingly large bladders and do surprisingly large shits. If it's shut in for that long every day it will defacate everywhere and she will soon get rid of it. Some pugs would happily sleep 12 hours a day, mind included. Some are mentalists and need a lot of attention and exercise. Hopefully she'll have the latter and it will have a decent home soon.

thesleepystorm · 25/08/2017 16:48

Really hope so huffle

OP posts:
JigglyTuff · 25/08/2017 16:52

Trust me, as @huffletuff said, she won't put up with the volume of piss, shit and general destruction she'll get with a puppy for long enough to breed from her.

I didn't leave my dog for more than an hour max when he was a pup and he still pissed and shat all over the shop. Not to mention destroying vast numbers of cushions, a fair amount of Lego (although most of it recovers through the power of Milton ), socks, pants, tea towels and chair legs

YorkshireTree · 25/08/2017 17:02

She will learn soon when her flat is wrecked. Just hope she then doesn't cage the poor thing permenantly. Sad

thesleepystorm · 25/08/2017 17:03

God almighty she got a white one to match her decor

I can't bear it
