WIBU to tell colleague she shouldn't have a dog?

thesleepystorm · 23/08/2017 13:50

I know I should mind my own business but...my colleague is about to purchase a pug puppy. She found it on the pets4homes Hmm website. She lives in a top floor London flat (where she isn't allowed pets anyway, she rents), she is out all day at work and then the gym so about 12 hours a day but does not intend on employing a dog walker because it's too expensive, nor does she intend on getting pet insurance for the same reason. Yet she has spent ££££££ on an expensive bed, toys and carrier for this dog. She has never owned a pet before.

I really want to say something to her regarding the above - particularly warning her off pets4homes - but I think she might tell me to sod off. But it makes me so cross!!! WIBU to say something?

@Llanali

Pug crossed with a chihuahua. She is a crazy dog, thigh to be fair, every Pug or Pug cross I've ever come across are crazy dogs

BlurryFace · 23/08/2017 17:13

So your workmate is going to end up with a fat, un-exercised, un-socialised un-toilet trained dog with no pet insurance, prone to all sorts of conditions due to poor breeding that is alone for most of its day.

Poor dog, and poor whoever ends up with the dog after she tires of it or the LL finds out and she gets rid. What a selfish woman.

isthismummy · 23/08/2017 17:23

No crate? What does she think will stop it messing everywhere otherwise?

I think it's worth one more try op. Really hammer it home that a puppy left alone will just dirty everywhere. I mean does she actually realise they need housetraining?

It beggars belief that some one could be so selfishh and dumbAngry

user1494426473 · 23/08/2017 17:34

She's an absolute moron. There is no such thing as a "house dog", only an unexercised, unsocialised, lonely, frustrated dog. And no, it's not "treating dogs as humans", it's "treating dogs as living, sentient beings who have physical and emotional needs that a responsible owner must be prepared to meet". I'm furious and I don't even know her. If she goes ahead with this you MUST report her to the rspca. Can you find someone she will listen to and tell them so they can intervene? A parent, mutual friend or even a more senior colleague?

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 23/08/2017 17:34

OP, if she does get the dog I'd track down her LL and shop her in a heeartbeat. Hope she gets evicted and then struggles to find another place to live. She's not stupid, she just doesn't give a shit and I'd love to see some consequences of that attitude.

pigsDOfly · 23/08/2017 17:43

Dog with a litter tray. Well good luck with that one.

My dog is small - not a pug - she still wants and needs her walks every day. Getting out is vital for a dog's mental and physical welfare doesn't matter how small it is.

This woman is beyond stupid. What does she even want a dog for? What exactly does she think she's going to get from having one?

splendidisolation · 23/08/2017 17:49

Tell her you volunteer for the RSPCA and that dogs have been removed from homes and the police called for being kept locked up inside all day as its animal cruelty...just let that unspoken threat float in the air...

WombattingFree · 23/08/2017 17:58

Pug owner here. They are very lazy generally speaking and I do leave mine to go to work (runs for cover). I do however have 2 of them for company, they are walked twice a day and as I work 30mins from where I live I'm not gone that much.

She's probably not going to think they are cute when their anal glands need expressing (common problem), their face flaps need wiping (every other day if not more), they need brushing frequently (GOD THE HAIR HOW ARE YOU NOT BALD?!) and all the other things that need doing for them. They are a funny, loving, lap doggy breed who are high maintenance.... I'd have to say something to be honest as I don't think she sounds like she truly knows!

WombattingFree · 23/08/2017 18:00

And yes.... track down her landlord! There are ways! Search her address on Zoopla and see who it was last rented with. That should give you the agency!!!

JigglyTuff · 23/08/2017 18:04

I hope it pisses all over her clothes, destroys her shoes and causes her to lose her flat deposit. Selfish shitty human being.

If you PM me the building, I can probably track down the landlord

Crumblevision · 23/08/2017 18:11

You can track down the landlord via the Land Registry whistles innocently

thesleepystorm · 23/08/2017 18:18

jiggly

I've PM'd you.

She sounds selfish. Like my idiot work colleague who decided she wanted to breed staffies at home with no experience or licence because her dog was 'broody'. You just cannot fucking tell these people.

If she ever has to move she's absolutely fucked. It took me months to find a house to rent because I have a cat. It's no exaggeration that a good 95% of rental ads were 'strictly no pets'. An unsocialised and destructive puppy would be even harder.

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/08/2017 18:34

Oh and I'd bet good money this poor dog is going to end up on Gumtree with all the other older dogs needing a good home because 'don't have the time anymore'.

gamerwidow · 23/08/2017 18:47

She's a lost cause she doesn't want a dog she wants a status symbol to stick on instagram.
I wouldn't bother trying to change her mind all it will cause is bad feeling.
She's going to have to learn the hard way.

gamerwidow · 23/08/2017 18:51

Saw your update, you've done your best but people like that never listen, she sounds like she lives in a dream world.

Abloodybigholeintheground · 23/08/2017 19:16

We've just got a new pup. 10 weeks old now, Labrador who have a reputation as being born half trained! It is our seventh dog (as in we now have seven Grin ), we have kept dogs for years. Yet every time we get a new one I remember how much damn hard work they are at the beginning, peeing about every 20 minutes, a good four or more poos a day. We have stone floors throughout and someone is here pretty much 24/7 but still it is hard work. She will end up with a disgusting pee and poo soaked flat, a stressed, frightened puppy that will do what stressed puppies do and howl and howl and bark and bark. Pugs are little bundles of energy-they need to be out socialising and having fun. If she wants a dog she needs an old, chilled out veteran AND still someone to attend to it during the day and get it our for walks....oh and a flat that allows you to have pets would help too....

specialsubject · 23/08/2017 19:24

Poor neighbours - bark bark bark for hours on end.
Poor dog.

With luck the neighbours will track down the landlord and she will get what she deserves - after months of suffering for all.

memove · 23/08/2017 19:32

Often if it's not barking it's howling/crying. Not sure which is worse but it's bloody awful!

userofthiswebsite · 23/08/2017 19:44

When I thought about getting a dog I thought about putting it in doggy day care. She could do the same.

pigsDOfly · 23/08/2017 19:47

I doubt she's thinking of doggy day care Userofthiswebsite. She's not going to get insurance because of the cost, so day care isn't going to happen.

Wolfiefan · 23/08/2017 19:47

User she won't. She can't be arsed to fork out for insurance or find a decent breeder. She clearly doesn't give a shit.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/08/2017 19:53

She's a fucking dick.

OP, I just wanted to say 'thanks' for speaking up, I know it won't have been easy and I'm sure you're now going to be first in line for lots of 'how happy my puggeewuggeeeee is' updates which will be utterly enraging. Your colleague is a dick, but thanks for standing up for the poor wee dog.

PretentiousMNUsername · 23/08/2017 20:08

I agree with imperial, scare her with being kicked out due to her neighbours reporting barking. Well done for doing the right thing. Dogs hate being lonely as much as anything else - 12 hours on its own is cruel aside from anything else. She sounds a total flake.

Henrysmycat · 23/08/2017 20:08

I'd shop her to the landlord/bank without a second thought. Those poor dogs don't have a chance. Fuckers like her prop the puppy mills and the abuse. I'm a cat person and I have pedigrees and rescues and I've seen first hand the back yard breeders. Fuck I hate her and I don't even know her. She's a selfish Fuckwit.
