My newish neighbour is having a party. He's met us and knows we have three small children. He's also met the other neighbour in our group of houses, an older lady.

The two other houses here are empty - both families on holiday.

The music is crazy loud, the kids are already going nuts with the lack of sleep and older lady neighbour has just been round asking for our help getting the noise down. Not off, I get that it's 11:30 on a saturday, just down.

So DH goes round, already to be civilised, and gets told to 'fuck off.' The music is now louder. They're screaming.

The police won't be interested, we're rural. Revenge is on my mind and his bedroom overlooks my back garden. I'm sure I can fashion drums out of various bits of the kitchen and shed.

AIBU? They certainly are Angry

DH is offering to come round on his motorbike for some prolonged engine-revving.

PricklyBall · 20/08/2017 10:31

TheFarceAwakens - DS is sitting beside me screaming with glee at your suggestion and yelling "why didn't we think of that?"

Melfish · 20/08/2017 10:33

DD assures me that you can get the super annoying song 'It's raining tacos' on an hour long loop on youtube. I would advise sticking it on loud and going out for lunch (with nice older neighbour)!

LakieLady · 20/08/2017 10:34

Any biker friends who can have an engine-revving competition outside NDN's house? It doesn't take many

DP has an 1100cc Honda that has a racing exhaust on it. It's reasonably quiet in normal use, but when you rev it up, it makes a noise that could wake the dead.

If you're in the south east, OP, we could bring it round and give it a tune-up outside your house. It's a nice day for a ride.

YellowLawn · 20/08/2017 10:34

or mahler first sinfonie.
has some great quiet bits that almost lull you to sleep followed by a full orchestra bang. a loud full orchestra bang!

YellowLawn · 20/08/2017 10:36

the bang

Libitina · 20/08/2017 10:36

PricklyBall

I LOVE your DDads suggestion. Me and DH are sat with tears streaming down our faces!!!! GrinGrinGrinGrin

YouTheCat · 20/08/2017 10:38

Invite elderly lady over for brunch and keep her in the loop. Maybe ask her if there's any loud gardening or diy she needs help with?

WombattingFree · 20/08/2017 10:39

I wish We could all come and join OP! Sound s hilarious!!

Your DH sounds such a good sport. Mine doesn't often join me on my crusades, but like yours, when he does chip in he really makes it count 😂

BeyondThePage · 20/08/2017 10:41

if you really have done all the things you say then he will probably go out tonight - after putting a song on repeat on HIS stereo with the speaker against your bedroom wall...

it is how it starts... then neither of you would be able to sell because of ongoing neighbour noise issues... which will piss off all your other neighbours too... good luck.

WombattingFree · 20/08/2017 10:41

And yes! As PP has mentioned, he'll be wanting a nap. It's important to make periodic bouts of noise to make sure he doesn't get the chance!

PricklyBall · 20/08/2017 10:43

YellowLawn - Shostakovich 5 (last movement) or 7, 8 or 10 would probably do the trick too. Or perhaps the really loud shells-dropping-on-the-Somme bit of Britten's War Requiem. Or the dying swan bit of Carmina Burana.

Lib - I'm still giggling too!

PricklyBall · 20/08/2017 10:45

Beyond - all OP has done is encouraged her children in the making of normal levels of childhood noise (complete with accompanying ineffectual "Don't do that darlings" from the parents). Nothing he can definitely pin on them as being deliberate.

It's the rest of us suggesting mad things to keep OP's spirits up. I doubt she'd act on them because I'm sure she's sensible enough to know all out warfare probably isn't a good idea. But a good fantasy can stop you wanting to commit GBH I find.

AmayaBuzzbee · 20/08/2017 10:47

OP, do you have recorders for the kids by any chance? If so, now would be a great time to learn how to play (in the garden obviously)

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 20/08/2017 10:52

Beyond - what I've actually done is let three kids play tennis in the back garden since 7:20ish and then set up the paddling pool at coming up to ten. PPs are having a great time suggesting music (some of which; 😱)

If he's going to retaliate then I'll be having a chat with the pariah council. Our other neighbours have kids too. If they weren't in holiday this would all be fairly standard Sunday morning behaviour, albeit an hour or so earlier than usual.

Our shared boundary is the gardens, not a wall.

How much "normal noise" do you hear from next door?
If slamming doors is normal in your house maybe his late night party was his way of getting back at your unreasonable behaviour (in his eyes)

M10s · 20/08/2017 10:57

"He hasn't said good morning, funny that."

Have you?

VanillaSugar · 20/08/2017 11:00

Wow, the party poopers are out Hmm

LuLuuuuuuu · 20/08/2017 11:02

Haha great autocorrect there Grin Grin

MyheartbelongstoG · 20/08/2017 11:08

Think your being very petty.

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 20/08/2017 11:09

Never mind the suggestions of heavy metal. Definitely go with Nyan Cat that's the most annoying song everrrrrr.
Bit of that on loop, he'll soon be begging for mercy. It'll be like that scene from Ghost where Sam sings Henry the 8th to Oda Mae and she's sticking the pillow over her head.
"Alright, alright, I'll do anything you want, just DONT' sing!" lol ]grin]

blacksax · 20/08/2017 11:09

I suggest that perhaps you need to put up some shelves in the bedroom, with lots of drilling and hammering... at about 2 o'clock just when he's decided to go back to bed to sleep the hangover off.

Chesntoots · 20/08/2017 11:23

I am rather liking the London's Burning on recorder idea. Especially as it is a round and can go on for hours!!!

Fekko · 20/08/2017 11:30

I came on to reconnect libitinas choice too. I sing that in the kitchen- damn good I am not too. Sometimes ds and I make up our own words.

Do you have any KLF?
