AIBU to think that a corn on the cob is not a full meal. My mum seems to think it is but I'm starving!!

Nah that's not a meal. It's like saying peas are a meal or beans are a meal. You need stuff with it or it's just ingredients on a plate!

Stillwishihadabs · 18/08/2017 22:31

I think we did have it as a light supper in the 80's might have had bread and cheese with it.....

lotsofconfuse · 19/08/2017 01:44

2 tablespoons of butter?! That's not a light lunch! Take the butter away and it's about 10 calories. And no way a meal.

amermaideindesguise · 19/08/2017 01:58

not a meal would be a light snack or a side dish in oir house

ColdstreamTuckett · 19/08/2017 02:49

I guess it could count as a light meal, at a stretch. The issue is probably more than your mother, I'm guessing, lives alone. When you live alone you can lose a bit of perspective.

I often do baked corn on the cob. It's delicious. But no way do I use 2 tablespoons of butter on 4 never mind one. Still comes out very nice.

But no it's not a meal on its own. Just like a tablespoon of corn would be a meal. Even chuck on bread and butter, still not a meal.

Ha ha - sorry for laughing OP but did I just read that correctly...you went for lunch at your mum's and all she gave you was corn on the cob? Grin

YANBU!

Mirrorface · 19/08/2017 12:44

To be fair to her I didn't 'go there for lunch.' I was staying for a few days and that's what they were having that day so I was served the same.

To the op that said I was odd for not saying anything - of course I did!! And I had some cheese and salami a couple of hours later too!

Joolsy YANBU. I'd be starving too with the lack of carbs

Corn is definitely quite carb heavy!

Its fine for a light lunch. In thailand you can by then fresh BBQed covered in salt and butter best beach lunch ever!

NeverTwerkNaked · 19/08/2017 13:08

Yabu; I can feed my entire family for a week on a single corn on the cob

lidoshuffle · 19/08/2017 13:22

I was going to say"Does she realise you don't eat the core and there's only a couple of spoonsful of actual food on it?". But I see that's what she was eating. Your mum must be super-slim, mine was a bit of a feeder!

Adarajames · 20/08/2017 02:15

I sometimes have 2 good sized ones for a meal, but then if I'm feeling really lazy I'll have a whole bowl of peas with butter, garlic salt and black pepper on for dinner. Wouldn't serve either to guests as a meal though
