AIBU to think that a corn on the cob is not a full meal. My mum seems to think it is but I'm starving!!

YANBU. I'd be starving too with the lack of carbs

Redpony1 · 18/08/2017 16:18

It's not a meal, it's poison! It's like loads of yellow teeth growing out of a core Shock Yuck yuck yuck definitely not a meal

TriJo · 18/08/2017 16:21

It's a side dish, usually with some kind of grilled meat.

stripeknee · 18/08/2017 16:21

you wouldn't order it when eating out as a main, well i have only ever seen it on Menus as sides !

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 18/08/2017 16:26

Definitely not a meal!

You are missing the sausage & mash.

OnARainbow · 18/08/2017 16:27

Not a meal......side dish in my house

Mummaofboys · 18/08/2017 16:29

I think it's a good lunch option but I wouldn't eat it as a main evening meal on its own.

LaContessaDiPlump · 18/08/2017 16:33

Gosh. Even for vegans that's not a whole meal Confused you'll be hungry again in an hour!

BarbaraofSevillle · 18/08/2017 16:34

You'd need beans, rice, salsa with it to make it into a decent vegan meal.

If we're off to KFC I'll have a original recipe ricebox with corn and fries.

Scribblegirl · 18/08/2017 16:36

Fuck me, I think even on MN you'll struggle to find someone who'd call that anything other than a side, starter or snack!

maddiemookins16mum · 18/08/2017 16:37

Ha ha, a meal no bloody way!! . I have an infamous photo of DD (now 13) enjoying her first ever whole corn on the cob (a frozen one cooked of course). She was about a year, in her high chair, I just plonked it on the tray. That wain literally with about three teeth stripped it bare! However, I was not prepared for the sweetcornpoonami the following morning, in the car, on the way to drop her off at Granny's on my way to work.

Sweetcorn is still her favourite veg.

Sorry, missed point. Was it perhaps a (weird) starter?

NoCapes · 18/08/2017 16:38

Of course it's not a bloody meal, you wouldn't plonk a single whole carrot on a plate and call it a meal would you!

Orangebird69 · 18/08/2017 16:38

scribble, there will be some smug fucker that could make a curry, a soup and a sandwich filling out of a corn cob, I guarantee it...

Mirrorface · 18/08/2017 16:39

It was lunch at my mum's house today. I'm still starving.....

.....and puree the leftovers for baby food.

Babyblues14 · 18/08/2017 16:41

Where is the Gannon and chips to go with it?

BorisTrumpsHair · 18/08/2017 16:41

Love a good corn on the cob lunch.
It's a meal for us as long as butter is involved.

Babyblues14 · 18/08/2017 16:41

*gammon

maddie 😂😂

Emboo19 · 18/08/2017 16:48

Definitely not a meal!

When I was vegetarian for a while as a child and my parents got a KFC I'd have the corn on the cob and chips.

I want really buttery corn on the cob now though 🌽

OnARainbow · 18/08/2017 16:50

Did you not ask where the rest of the meal was?
Has she ever served this 'meal' in the past?

BeyondThePage · 18/08/2017 16:52

Slathered in melted butter, for a light lunch it would be fine. For dinner, less so.

Holidayhooray · 18/08/2017 16:52

I'm a super healthy veggie eater but c'mon!! That is not a lunch.

And my guess is that your mother knew that full well and is pulling some kind of barbed passive aggressive poke at you.

Holidayhooray · 18/08/2017 16:54

If she concours to insist it's a main meal, ask her to show you one menu from any cafe on the planet where corn on the cob is described as a main meal.
