AIBU to think that a corn on the cob is not a full meal. My mum seems to think it is but I'm starving!!

Next time she does this, cut the corn off the cob and on to your plate so she can see just how little food is actually there

Therealslimshady1 · 18/08/2017 17:18

My guess is your mum is,very very slim

Holidayhooray · 18/08/2017 17:24

I'm very very slim... but I wouldn't serve this!

As I say, my guess is that it was a barbed gesture. Trying to make a point in an unpleasant passive aggressive manner.

lifestoshort · 18/08/2017 17:31

😂😂I'm with cake fairy on this one add a kcf I'd be happy !!

TheFlis12345 · 18/08/2017 17:34

If you cut the corn off the cob it would be about half a tin. Pretty sure she wouldn't call that a meal! It's like serving someone a few spoonfuls of peas and saying that is a meal!

Troubleinstore · 18/08/2017 17:36

is a pile of peas a meal? - well how can a pile of corn be? (attached to the cob or not!)

next time she comes to your house - serve her the peas!

OstentatiousWanking · 18/08/2017 17:37

Light lunch or a snack in our house.
We had it as a side for dinner yesterday with salad and hunters chicken. It was lovely.

oldlaundbooth · 18/08/2017 17:39

It is not a meal.

And it's not even a meal if it's served with a few slices of pork fillet, which is what SIL served the other night.

And this included teenagers!

PollyFlint · 18/08/2017 17:40

Maybe two or three would make a light lunch. With about half a pound of butter. If they were really, really nice ones.

YANBU; one corn on the cob is really not a meal. I doubt your mum would serve a cup of sweetcorn to someone for lunch and nothing else, which is all you really get off a cob, so she's talking nonsense.

I also quite fancy a KFC now, which is weird because I don't even like KFC.

lotsofconfuse · 18/08/2017 17:43

We used to have it as a starter as kids!

lotsofconfuse · 18/08/2017 17:44

It won't fill you for long either as it's a vegetable. Throw some chicken, few chips and bit of coleslaw with it and then you're talking.

BeyondThePage · 18/08/2017 17:52

1 whole cob with 2 tablespoons of butter is over 300 calories.

Definitely fits a light lunch!

Dina1234 · 18/08/2017 17:55

It's a lazy meal.

2014newme · 18/08/2017 17:56

Was a starter in restaurants in the 80s.
As was melon and fruit juice

2014newme · 18/08/2017 17:57

@beyondthepage surely nobody eats 2 tablespoons of butter with a corn cob!

BeyondThePage · 18/08/2017 18:26

2014newme oh yesssss - cob, 2 tablespoons of butter (30g) crushed clove of garlic and a sprig of thyme, wrap in foil, put in oven for 45 min turning over often so the butter gets absorbed. At LEAST 2 tablespoons required!

2014newme · 18/08/2017 18:30

Heart attack on a cob!

ItsALardBaby · 18/08/2017 18:35

Is she the type to try competitive non eating?

mamalovesmojitos · 18/08/2017 18:39

Not a full meal.

I'm now craving hot, buttered corn on the cob....

Aventurine · 18/08/2017 18:48

Did she serve it as a meal when you were kids?

Motoko · 18/08/2017 18:53

I'm skinny and don't eat much due to lack of appetite, but I wouldn't consider a corn cob a meal. It's an accompaniment.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 18/08/2017 21:40

That's really odd! It's also really odd that you didn't say "mum this isn't a meal it's just corn. Can we have something to go with it please"

Weedsnseeds1 · 18/08/2017 21:46

It's not a meal, it's a meal component
My mother once served me a single microwaved tinned tomato ( no bread) for lunch Confused

MammaTJ · 18/08/2017 22:14

It's a vegetable, a side dish!!

Bit of a dubious side dish, as I am sure it comes out exactly as it goes in, so has little to no nutritional value, but a side dish all the same!!

You need meat, protein of some sort anyway, with it and a carb, like chips or jacket spud to make it a meal!

Mysteriouscurle · 18/08/2017 22:23

Id be delighted to have corn on the cob as a starter but as a meal? Shock
