I'm overwhelmed with all this talk of war, North Korea and now Trumps talking of military intervention in Venuzala, now i hear India and China are close to war. I feel as if we've no future, like the worlds going to explode. Is there any hope, please calm me down.

YY to PP poster who mentioned Ruby Wax (really good book she's written if you can get hold of it)... she says we don't need all this information, it's too much. I've really closed down my Internet use, don't watch news on TV, listen to limited radio news (radio 1 as Dd likes it, but it mays well be Newsround!) Only checking FaceArse 3 times a week, removed app from my phone. Keep life simple (apart from daily MNing 😉)

AgentZigzag · 12/08/2017 23:04

Going on China's population (1.3 billion) relative to The Rest of the World's population (6.2 billion) it's a pretty poor show IMO roundabout. They could storm the rest of us (economically as well as politically) if they could only get their act together Grin

Their traditionally inward looking approach has left it's mark, leaving them nowhere near the heavyweights of America and (the slightly tatty/faded) Russia when they're slugging it out.

Which is ultimately what this fuss is all about, same as Syria and whoever else is having a spat at the moment.

Who died viques? The person who gave the info for the drawings?

Anxiety is a bitch. It's making things seem worse than they are. It's vanishingly unlikely that nuclear weapons will be used.
It really is daft to think that what Trump says to an audience is in any way reflective of reality. He is borrowing from KUJ playbook, pleasing his own people. Most of the top people in the US don't want anything to happen to them personally. They will ensure it doesn't

AgentZigzag · 12/08/2017 23:23

'They will ensure it doesn't'

Do you really trust 'Them' 7Days? (just out of interest who are you thinking makes up the 'them' group)

They haven't even got control over the POTUS' Twitter account! That doesn't bode well for this supposed control over access to the big red nuke button does it? (not that I think he's looking to press it or anything)

Ironic that Trump is threatening to unleash hell on Korean civilians

Hell which many are already experiencing and which the DPRK government won't actually care about anyway. All it will serve to do is prove to the DPRK people that the USA is the awful land that they are told about with leaders who don't care about the people. The brainwashed masses will probably just believe it with the few who are accessing western television illegally being the only ones who know different.

Is it the tea you're worried about OP? Because we get tea from other countries too. Though I suspect the price will increase.AngrySad

TheRollingCrone · 13/08/2017 01:32

Unofficial word is China has told Kim"if you strike Guam first and USA retaliates, we will not intervene on your behalf"
And also told Trump "If you strike NK first, we will go to war" so they're both pretty much tied up for now.
I do think it's scary. They are both so mad arn't they?

user7841794168 · 13/08/2017 01:39

Trump won't strike DPRK first, he's not that stupid.

Topseyt · 13/08/2017 02:07

Oh Trump is pretty stupid. We just have to hope he is not THAT stupid.

Kim Jong Un is a madman.

duracellred · 13/08/2017 02:19

Its just typical that the Americans voted for such a pompous and egostical dickhead.

sunseek · 13/08/2017 02:46

It is quite worrying. My sister who lives in Zurich has texted to say that their goverment has issued all citizens in Switzerland with iodine tablets. These are to be taken in the event of a nuclear disaster. So they are preparing already. They've been given information about the nearest bunkers in the city……and meanwhile, we are sitting in the UK without any plan of action.

AgentZigzag · 13/08/2017 03:15

Google says Switzerland's about 5,000 miles from South Korea sunseek, why would they be acting as though getting nuked is imminent?

Isn't it a bit alarmist? Can their government not think what to spend their money on or something?

What does your sister make of them preparing her family for a strike?

It's hard for anyone to say how much actual power KJU has in his own country, but I doubt any MH problems he might have are influencing his country's posturings (I resent anyone's MH being brought into it tbh, especially when it's a finely tuned regime using torture as a mechanism of social control who you really should be looking at).

And Trump's not that stupid is he? He got himself elected.

Passing these men off as stupid and insane underestimates them, which is stupid.

AgentZigzag · 13/08/2017 03:17

(not that I'm saying any posters on here are stupid, of course lol)

CheerfulYank · 13/08/2017 04:57

Trump is stupid.

Mattis isn't.

Trump is crass and orange and says some foolish things which he thinks will appeal to the masses, and rather out of his depth, but I don't really think he is unstable or stupid

user7841794168 · 13/08/2017 06:59

I think that Switzerland did that a few months back, or at least they announced it a while back so it's not a recent development because of the dprk.

CoolCarrie · 13/08/2017 12:21

Zigzag the poor lad who pinched the poster and ended up in a coma died a couple of weeks ago.

user1476382353 · 13/08/2017 17:47

Exactly what Stubbornstains has said.
'The Media' rely on bad news, and the more they can pump it up the better.

DaveTheDesigner · 13/08/2017 17:50

'Gonna'... definition: what one will be if they drop the bomb. As apposed to... 'going to'... which I think is probably unlikely.

TractorTedTed · 13/08/2017 17:57

Switzerland did the iodine tablet things because of their nuclear reactors. They are worried about a nuclear disaster like Fukushima, rather than nuclear war I think!

nocoolnamesleft · 13/08/2017 18:00

Stop watching the news. Pick out a nice boxset instead. That's what I've done, and it's definitely helping my blood pressure.

patq1967 · 13/08/2017 18:16

don`t worry about it China AND Russia know what will happen if they attack and will tell them so

Justaboy · 13/08/2017 18:17

If you want something to stress over there was an incident back in the 1980's where a Russian air force officer monitored a large number of missiles heading to Russia from the USA and he couldn't verify if it was a training exercise or the real thing as it was very late at night and some of his communications links were down.

He was supposed to have referred this to the Russian strike command who it seemed would at that stage have had to launch a nuclear strike on the USA as they would have lost their ability to retaliate as their lunch positions would have been taken out. He put almost his life and job on the line Not to tell higher authority.

It was that someone had by accident run a test attack simulation by mistake.
Unfortunately communications were down so he couldn't verify that it was a genuine attack but it came closer that it had ever has been to the accidental all out war:!

exaltedwombat · 13/08/2017 18:27

That's how we all felt during the Cold War, with US airbases all over Britain. Not to mention during the two previous real wars, when marching off to death was nearer to a certainty than a fear. Put the tea on. There's not much else you CAN do.
