To feel very very frightened

I'm overwhelmed with all this talk of war, North Korea and now Trumps talking of military intervention in Venuzala, now i hear India and China are close to war. I feel as if we've no future, like the worlds going to explode. Is there any hope, please calm me down.

Although I live in a country which tests their random emergency siren every month and every single time I forget its about it to happen and nearly have a heart attack.

IloveBanff · 12/08/2017 14:18

I don't think Kim Jong Un would back down in face of threats, because of the consequences to his status in North Korea as a godlike leader who can do no wrong and conquer all, if he did.

AngelaTwerkel · 12/08/2017 14:19

I hope you're right, Flop. It is still frightening to think how much power an untested politician has in this respect though.

I used to live somewhere similar, in Asia - it helped that everyone around me would look nonplussed when it happened!

AngelaTwerkel · 12/08/2017 14:20

Banff not backing down would mean his own demise and the destruction of his country, though. There's no point being a godlike leader if you don't have anyone to lead.

DitheringDiva · 12/08/2017 14:22

Stop watching/listening to the news. I'm a teacher, so on 6 week hols, which means I refuse to get up on an alarm, hence don't hear the news on the radio then, don't commute, so don't hear the news on the radio then either. All day, I'm either out with the kids, or we're in and the kids are hogging the TV and I'm getting on with jobs. We were in France for 2 weeks, and don't speak enough French to understand French news, and camping so no TV anyway, so I heard absolutely no news at all for those 2 weeks

I vaguely know that Trump is verbally threatening North Korea and that's it, but he's been doing that for ages and he makes threats at everyone anyway and he's a twat so I generally ignore everything he says. So the story just hasn't caught my attention as being very important/interesting.

Honestly, stop listening/watching the news, it's very refreshing!

user1492970817 · 12/08/2017 14:24

Nothing will come of it, 2 big idiots with oversized egos. Their not going to risk blowing themselves to kingdom come.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 12/08/2017 14:24

Angela, I agree, and it's also ridiculous that we are still in a situation where we have to consider the likelihood of almost all life on earth being destroyed on a whim but of course we can't change it, because apparently nuclear weapons keep us safe really. Gaaah.

stubbornstains · 12/08/2017 14:25

Yeah, but Kim Jong Un could just say he hadn't backed down. He could say the US had capitulated, apologised, and acknowledged he has the best hair and the biggest dick, and the N. Korean population wouldn't know otherwise.

quizqueen · 12/08/2017 14:25

If Kim Jong-Un decides to attack the USA or one of its dependencies or bases, the President will have no choice but to respond and North Korea will probably lose its capital city or, at the least, its bomb making facilities. It make sense to have a show of troops nearby to show him that America means business but I do not believe they will be the first to strike.
North Korea has been posturing for years but their current leader seems more unpredictable and the last USA President was weak. Mr Trump is not, which is why he was voted in. That doesn't make him an 'imbecile'. That is very rude. He is someone who wants the best for his citizens and to protect his country just like Putin does. Just because you may not agree with his policies or like him doesn't mean you should make rude comments.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 12/08/2017 14:26

But Ilovebamf, Kim may be an all powerful godlike leader, but he is an all powerful, god,Ike leader who has to do pretty much what the factions in charge of the military tell him...

AngelaTwerkel · 12/08/2017 14:30

Heaven forfend I be rude about a man with a track record of erratic behaviour who has the fate of the world in his hands.

Hmm

But LOL at the favourable comparison to Putin!

silkpyjamasallday · 12/08/2017 14:32

I have pretty bad anxiety, it has stopped me leaving the house for months at a time in the past, but I don't let issues like this bother me. I avoid reading all the ins and outs and the sensationalist papers and I don't watch the news, even if DP has the radio on I just read something and drown it out or listen and let it wash over me. I just don't see the point of wasting my one life worrying about things I have absolutely no power to control, if you truly believe we are all going to go kaboom in the near future then don't waste your precious few days scrolling Facebook to see the latest doom-mongering.

greathat · 12/08/2017 14:33

~Wonders what planet Quizqueen is on~

CoolCarrie · 12/08/2017 14:35

quizqueen lol!

DavetheCat2001 · 12/08/2017 14:36

I vote for all-female democracies across the world.

End of the day it's stupid MEN waving their willies at each other that gets us into these situations.

CoolCarrie · 12/08/2017 14:40

Trumpet needs to shut the fuck up with his twitter etc, he is a arse, as is kim Jong un. At leat Obama was a safe pair of hands as it were.
Op I would take on the suggestions to stop watching the news and reading the papers, it's just wee boys pissed up walls with those two!

IdoHaveAName · 12/08/2017 14:45

Yup, it's just little boy willy waving.

I blame their mothers.

user7841794168 · 12/08/2017 14:45

What a world we live in when the North Korean leader is a better and smarter strategist than the US president.

Thank heavens that he is. It's bad enough having Trump as leader of the US, if he was the leader of the DPRK then that would be seriously scary.

haveacupoftea · 12/08/2017 14:48

Don't worry about it, sometimes i think they're all great mates really and the threats of doom are just for show for some reason.

heartstornastray · 12/08/2017 14:51

I'm afraid it is facebook to blame for keeping me informed of the state of the world. i don't read newspapers or watch the news, purposely because of my fears, but when i see an alarmist headline trending on facebook i feel bound to read it, if i didn't i'd worry myself just as much.

The thing is, even if everything blows over, there'll be more and more scary situations which at one time wouldn't have worried me too much, but with Trump in charge it does. At the start of his office he said he wasn't going to get involved in other countries, but he was obviously lying. Sorry for ranting, i just feel anxious, but it does help reading some of your common sense posts.

IdoHaveAName · 12/08/2017 14:56

The headlines on The Sun, Star, Mirror are hilarious.

BREAKING! Donald Trump has tweeted.

Don't click into those idiotic articles.

KurriKurri · 12/08/2017 14:56

Unfortunately you can become president of the USA without having any political savvy or credentials at all. Which means you can basically have no clue about foreign policy, diplomacy, how to react sensibly to perceived threats. Same applies to N Korea obviously.

Really astounds me how a nation that can select a class act like Obama to lead them can then go so unmeasurably far in the opposite direction.

Hopefully there are enough sensible people around Trump left (that he hasn't fired yet) to keep him in check. Sadly the same can't be said for Kim Jong Un.

Also hopefully those countries run by people with a viable skill set for tackling world affairs, will use behind the scenes diplomacy to keep the insanity in check before anyone gets harmed.

Meanwhile, I think we just have to get on with our lives and hope for the best.

MissAlabamaWhitman · 12/08/2017 14:57

Stop reading/watching the news and rely on MN.

If it all kicks off somebody on here will start a thread.

(Although the BBC news site is really rather tongue in cheek with its quizzes such as 'Trump or Kim?')

Kursk · 12/08/2017 15:16

Something's going to kick off, weather it's conventional or nuclear I don't know, but something going to happen to release the tension.

Nuclear is unlikely but a EMP strike I think has a higher probability of happening

We have been prepping

Nousernameforme · 12/08/2017 15:44

Are you somewhere likely to get hit Kursk?
I very much doubt that even May would drag us into war between NK and US and they are all quite far from here.

Don't get me wrong I hope nothing happens and if it does it will be awful for the people living in the middle of it but I think currently we are far away from the situation and I for one am -selfishly I admit- glad of it
