To feel very very frightened

I'm overwhelmed with all this talk of war, North Korea and now Trumps talking of military intervention in Venuzala, now i hear India and China are close to war. I feel as if we've no future, like the worlds going to explode. Is there any hope, please calm me down.

AngelaTwerkel "Banff not backing down would mean his own demise and the destruction of his country, though. There's no point being a godlike leader if you don't have anyone to lead."

Oh well, if you're going to try being logical with me, that'll never work!

There doesn't seem to be any diplomacy going on between NK and the US. Why isn't the UN getting involved, and why isn't China putting massive pressure on NK, the world has gone mad.

Nothing is going to happen. Don't worry Flowers

No we are at least 50 miles from a possible target. Plus DH researched average weather patterns. Any fall out would probably be carried by the wind in the opposite direction so not too worried about fall out etc.

heartstornastray · 12/08/2017 15:58

Yes but it could escalate into a war where we get involved surely. We're in Nato, we would have to get behind the US.

Trump believes that a nuclear deterrent isn't a deterrent if no one believes you won't use it.

His talk and unpredictability is part of this play. I believe that US military doctrine is that US missiles are launched only in retaliation

Viviennemary · 12/08/2017 16:09

I was a bit scared a couple of days ago. But now I think it's all just sabre rattling. I've not watched the news yet today. Probably just as well.

KurriKurri · 12/08/2017 16:10

Kursk - sending my good wishes for you and your family and your safety, I apologise if my remark about carrying on as normal and hoping for the best sounds crass. It is very easy from far away to spout opinions and forget that this situation is very much a frightening reality for many people such as yourself.

I very much hope that all is posturing and Trump and his advisors are on top of the situation and above all that no one living in any of the potential danger zones is harmed Flowers

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 12/08/2017 16:12

I went on a course about living with ambiguity. One of the things they said was not to worry about anything that you can't influence. This is very much outside the scope of your influence. I'm doing my best to ignore it. I think you should do the same.

Timmytoo · 12/08/2017 16:13

Don't worry about things that you've got no control of and cannot change. I've learnt this as a person with GAD. If it happens there's nothing you can do about it unfortunately.

Kursk · 12/08/2017 16:15

Thanks, and no worries!

I am pretty confident that we have plans in place to survive anything that is thrown our way.

viques · 12/08/2017 16:20

Ironic that Trump is threatening to unleash hell on Korean civilians when in another breath he is so 'pro life' he is stopping funding for health clinics in Africa that give abortion advice as well as family planning., HIV support, child innoculation and other health advice. The man doesn't know which way is up most of the time. I really am surprised that there hasn't been an unfortunate gas leak/helicopter malfunction/poisoned umbrella incident in the White House, although I suppose with Pence as the alternative it would be hard to make the call.

Topseyt · 12/08/2017 16:26

I like to think nothing will happen.

We do see this sort of sabre rattling at times. Often it settles, although I admit that the likes of Trump and Kim Jong Un being head to head at the moment is scary. Both are unpredictable, and a pair of loose cannons.

I will be glad when the current crisis hopefully eventually settles down. Thinking that and limiting exposure to news is what keeps me sane anyway.

roundaboutthetown · 12/08/2017 16:27

Why waste time worrying about something you have absolutely no control over? You'll regret not enjoying your last days of peace if there's war, and if there isn't war, your worrying is still a stupid waste of time, because it will change nothing either way and there isn't really anything you can do to prepare for it either way, anyway, as you have bugger all idea of what, when or how anything will happen or how it will affect you at this point in time. It's not as if you'll be safer escaping to another country, or burying your money in the garden, or stockpiling food, or building a bunker. So just relax and enjoy the life you actually have, not your fantasy scary life.

heartstornastray · 12/08/2017 17:26

Easier said than done i'm afraid roundaboutthetown, I do try but all the fears of what might happen overwhelm me.Its pointless i know.

Like lots of other people I thought there was no way on earth Trump was going to win the election.

When he did win I comforted myself thinking there's no way on earth he'd keep up his pre-election rhetoric so publically on Twitter.

When he did I thought surely there must be checks and balances in US policy designed to keep such a man in line.

I'm not so sure now.

He's a Goady Fuck playing dare with some of the most dangerous GF's around the world, you just can't come out with the stuff he says and nothing happen.

A small part of me agrees with him though that NK has been torturing its people for far too long and they should be taken down, and the UN's repeated threats of writing a stiff letter to them is ridiculously ineffective.

If NK had the capability to launch a nuclear weapon then they probably would and nobody should be appeasing them.

If Trump is willing to stand up and do something about it before it gets to that point then (kind of) good on him. I don't like the man or his opinions and would like laugh him off as a total twat (which he undoubtedly is), but he's got the balls to flick his Vs at regimes like NK, Putin and China and a lot of cash and power to back it up and I (kind of) admire that (although paradoxically I don't at the same time because I know it's/he's wrong and it would probably be catastrophic).

AgentZigzag · 12/08/2017 18:15

Does anyone know how much of what's going on at the min is to do with the US student who came back from NK in a coma?

Has it escalated since then? IIRC Trump was pretty angry about it.

Adrianflank · 12/08/2017 19:31

It would never go nuclear, if anything it would go for all out war, and to be honest it wouldn't end well for North Korea, the Americans would destroy North Korea's airforce within hours, an army without air cover in this day of age is just cannon fodder!

It would also end badly for South Korea, there capital is within range of the norths artillery, and they reckon it can flatten it within 30 mins

roundaboutthetown · 12/08/2017 20:45

Trump isn't willing to stand up and do something about it, though, AgentZigzag - it would be other people taking that risk while he tweets from his bunker thousands of miles away. And then the whole world gets dragged into the ensuing chaos.

CoolCarrie · 12/08/2017 21:08

My dad fought in Korea from 1950-1952, he lost friends in the conflict and there was only a ceasefire, not an end to that forgotten war. He always used to say that the UN should have kept going and beat the Chinese completely. My ds best friends are twins from South Korea and their father works there , the family are concerned, but not panicking.

AgentZigzag · 12/08/2017 22:17

That's democracy for you eh roundabout?

He's talking and acting on behalf of the Americans, and as an American himself (and his family) he's in it with them to the bitter 'end' (which the rest of us can only hope won't be apocalyptic).

I know there will be diplomacy going on behind the scenes, but nobody else has spoken out publically and forcefully saying NK must be having a laugh posturing as though they have even a shred of global power.

I suspect KJU is as much under the regime's control as the ordinary people are, having to constantly up the stakes to seem bigger and better than they've ever been before. It's like the ridiculously over exaggerated reports given to Stalin.

Trump is just calling them on the rubbish they spout, while everyone else pussyfoots around trying not to offend the always-ready-to-take-offence Putin and China (who are both desperately trying to bolster their own meagre profiles on the global stage).

I would like to see the NK regime taken down because of the long term appalling treatment of anyone trapped there, but if he takes them down because of their exaggerated threats of nuking anyone in the immediate area...

If anyone doesn't like the pics they'll have to be thankful they can look away.

AgentZigzag · 12/08/2017 22:24

I can't believe they've been left to treat people like this.

I've lifted the pics from this website (where there are even more disturbing pictures of what goes on) but the depravity and torture is well documented in plenty of other places by those who've escaped.

roundaboutthetown · 12/08/2017 22:39

AgentZigzag - I'm not sure where you get the idea that China has a meagre profile on the world stage.

viques · 12/08/2017 22:46

Agent zigzag he died about a week later.
