Hello all, new to Mumsnet and not sure if this post is in the appropriate place? Sorry if not...

Anyway, was having a discussion with the ladies at work about how the tree leaves are already starting to change colour. The nights are slowly drawing back in and it feels cooler (although it seems to have warmed up again today).

This got me feeling excited as I absolutely love autumn and the '...ber' months!

Apart from one colleague who feels the same, the others think I'm strange for loving Autumn!

Anyone else? :D

"Putting the electric blankets back on the beds so the beds are nice and warm

So you'd rather spend money warming up the beds than have them warmed for free? Odd."

Exactly Ifailed Confused

Cailleach666 · 11/08/2017 15:08

I like being able to line dry my clothes

I do that all year round, even in winter.

Natsku · 11/08/2017 15:09

Its autumn here in Finland already, have seen some leaves starting to change colour. I'm happy for the mosquitoes to bugger off and I enjoy the colourful leaves but otherwise I'm not a fan of autumn - means rain, mud (October is called mud month here for a good reason, and November is dead month), and ever-increasing darkness :(

LoniceraJaponica · 11/08/2017 15:11

"I do that all year round, even in winter."

Lucky you. It rains a lot in winter where I live Sad

Natsku I suspect most of the summer haters on here get hotter summers than you or I do.

Cailleach666 · 11/08/2017 15:12

Natsku- do you celebrate Halloween in Finland?

LoniceraJaponica · 11/08/2017 15:17

I don't care for Halloween. It is for small children. I keep telling DD that she is too old for it. Last year was the first year she didn't go trick or treating.

Cailleach666 · 11/08/2017 15:21

Not too old for it here- my youngest is 17..
Adults and children alike in my village dress up and celebrate Halloween, but then we are a pagan lot here....

Delatron · 11/08/2017 15:23

Astounded at the excitement over Halloween! It's ine evening, of children walking around egging for sweets? That really makes Autumn for you does it? Ditto bonfire night. Standing in the cold watching a fire??

I never understand why people quote these nights as reasons why they love a whole season...

Natsku · 11/08/2017 15:23

Natsku- do you celebrate Halloween in Finland

Not traditionally but its starting to gain in popularity now due to American tv programmes. I always have a little party with OH and DD and go nuts with decorations and Halloween themed food but no one round here trick or treats. I'm also going to have my own bonfire night this year to cheer me up in dead November.

Yeah summers aren't too hot here (this year was just shit altogether). Its my favourite time of year because nature is just so alive and beautiful and people seem to be more alive and beautiful too.

Delatron · 11/08/2017 15:23

Egging for sweets! Begging.

Cailleach666 · 11/08/2017 15:26

Not here- it's guising, no tricks involved.
Plus it's dark at 4.30pm, so early enough even for tots to get involved- hardly evening.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 11/08/2017 15:28

Spring is my favourite time, always think of new beginnings and hope. Nothing ever gets better and by summer I am thoroughly p'd off with the heat, humidity and noise of thundering, roaring petrol propelled garden equipment and balls bashing on decking, walls and wheelie bins.

Autumn is beautiful, I enjoy the colours, the sunny, cooler days after the nasty summer heat (and rain). However I feel depressed at the shorter days and the thought of Christmas on the way.

Ifailed · 11/08/2017 15:42

Eh? Evening is the time after sunset, so surely 4:30pm is evening if it's dark?

Unicorniformal1ty · 11/08/2017 15:52

YABU, although I do like autumn leaves/Halloween/cooler weather. What I can't bear is the unrelenting grey skies. It goes on for months, through winter and some of spring (and summer atm). Just greyness. It's so bleak and depressing. Grey grey grey grey grey. Horrible.

Delatron · 11/08/2017 15:52

Call it what you want, it's one evening!

Cailleach666 · 11/08/2017 15:55

Halloween lasts a week in our house. Christmas lasts a month.

Delatron · 11/08/2017 15:59

Halloween lasts a week? I can't think of anything worse but each to their own.

deadringer · 11/08/2017 16:00

I really enjoy Halloween, I prefer it to Christmas actually its a great opportunity to decorate the house and eat lots of sweets without the pressure of buying presents. (And receiving crap ones). Its a big deal in my area (south dublin) and has been since i was little (old gimmer). I mind small children and they love helping me sort through all the scary tat stuff and help me decorate the hall and front porch. I will be away from home for Halloween for the first time ever this year Sad

monkeytoad35 · 11/08/2017 16:02

I love autumn too and running through the crunchy leaves. I love Bonfire Night and it's the countdown to Christmas 🎄🎄

nigelsbigface · 11/08/2017 16:22

Autumn is my favourite too... hopefully I'll be in my new house by then which has a log fire-I can't wait to light it when it starts getting chilly.
I am buying a new coat this year as well-have has the same one for two years. Bloody love A/W clothes!

Bemusedandpuzzled · 11/08/2017 16:47

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I HATE WINTER!

Autumn is just a sign that everything is soon going to be dark, cold, foggy, leafless and AWFUL.

sunshineintheclouds · 11/08/2017 16:51

Sad noooo I want summer first we haven't had one yet in the nw Angry

littlebird77 · 11/08/2017 16:52

I usually love autumn, but this year I don't feel as if we have even had a summer....so no not this year sadly Sad

Delatron · 11/08/2017 16:55

Don't worry that there's been no summer, you have Halloween and bonfire night to look forward to... Those two nights alone will make up for it, surely.

CheeseAndOnionIcecream · 11/08/2017 16:55

I have always regarded September as being the start of autumn, but an article in a newspaper a few days ago said that it had started already this year, due to the very hot weather that we had in early summer (well in the south of England anyway!). Apparently, flowers and shrubs that should still be in bloom have finished already, and I have noticed that blackberries are ready for picking already,a good 2 or 3 weeks earlier than usual. I love autumn, with all the beautiful colours of nature. I love being able to wrap up in leggings, boots and a cosy jumper, not being red-faced and sweaty all the time (summer is not a good time for menopause sufferers!) being able to snuggle up in bed at night, and not spending half the night chucking the cover off because I'm too hot. And it will be nice to be able to go shopping etc without being confronted with acres of bare flesh,as seems to be the norm round where I live! And it's my birthday in October
