To think Dressing your kids identical a bit tacky?

My friend has a 12 year old and 2 twin boys (not identical) who are 9 and every day dresses them exactly the same.
Everything is the same..tops/socks/jackets etc
I think it's a bit naff...but each to their own I guess.
What do you think?

My girls love to dress the same. They ask to wear the same clothes. They only have a few matching outfits. The older girl waits until she's seen what the younger is wearing and tries to dress similar. They have a few similar outfits like a playsuit and a dress in the same pattern.

You sound like a really judgemental "friend"

Aridane · 09/08/2017 11:25

Oh dear, I think it's cute Blush

Nicae · 09/08/2017 11:32

My girls are 1 and 2 and I love it! I think they look really sweet in the same outfit and don't give a monkeys what anyone else thinks!!

Nicae · 09/08/2017 11:34

Oh and in relation to a pp, my house is clean and we take shoes off at the door - I'm a terrible person!

Re adult identical twins dressed the same. In Islington years ago there were two sets of twins who dressed the same, AND were married to each other,AND always went out together. They loved the attention.

Haven't read the thread all the way so if any one else has remembered them too then sorry, but hey that's the way it goes with twins, see one, see two!

viques · 09/08/2017 11:50

I just googled for my own entertainment, the Cox twins, music hall artistes.

Georgieporgypuddinandpie · 09/08/2017 11:51

I recently saw two girls dressed identically in sparkley tops and frilly skirts. The younger looked about 3 or 4 and was very petite, it suited her and she looked cute as a button, the older one looked about 8 or 9 and was a bit of a chunkier build, she looked uncomfortable, the outfit didn't suit her as well as it suited the younger one and she kept sort of tugging at it!!
I felt sorry for her, tiny children can look cute but they need to learn to develop their own sense of style.

DD's stepmother has dressed DD identical to her two younger goddaughters. My reaction was a silent Argh. And now I think it's tacky as well Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/08/2017 12:06

Dd was very pleased to be wearing a cardigan, which was almost the same colour as mine the other day. She's nine. Perhaps I should be buying some matching outfits. Wink

morningconstitutional2017 · 09/08/2017 12:16

I'm an un-identical twin and mum often dressed us in the same things until we went to secondary school (then it was a bottle green uniform) or we kicked off about it. I can understand her wanting to save time and effort but I felt very strongly that we each had our own personalities (in fact we're chalk and cheese). Hated it.

That was in the late 50s/early 60s - parents were much more 'in charge' then. I can't see how it was less effort to actually knit two jumpers or cardigans exactly the same. Boring, too. Yes, it's naff.

redpuppy16 · 09/08/2017 12:17

if its twins everyone gets them muddled up so its not a good idea, at playgroup i saw these 2 UNIDENTICAL boy twins in the same clothes down to their socks. At biscuit and juice time one twin had 2 juices and 2 biscuits and when the other asked for his they said you have already had it greedy boy !

squoosh · 09/08/2017 12:20

My daughters love dressing identically. I'm not a fan and would raise the issue with them but to be quite frank, they terrify me so I let them get on with it.

To think Dressing your kids identical a bit tacky?
Shadow666 · 09/08/2017 12:21

I actually know a mum who dresses matching with her toddler's outfits. I'm very impressed with the effort. I consider myself doing well if the kids go out in non-odd socks, never mind trying to co-ordinate people.

hannah1992 · 09/08/2017 12:23

I have a 6 and 1 1/2 year old. Both girls. For Xmas last year my nan bought them matching outfits. My 1 year old looked adorable in hers my 6 year old looked ridiculous safe to say they looked like something from a bad comedy movie when they stood together 😂. I think if I had twins especially identical I would be dressing them differently so I knew who was who!

Brittbugs80 · 09/08/2017 12:24

My sister does it with her 6 year and 4 year old but only when they are on holiday and at the airport. If she loses one in the airport then she can show the Police exactly what they were wearing as the other brother has it on. She lost one in the airport once and though she had a photo of him she'd taken that morning, the police wanted specific makes of clothing and she couldn't remember where his outfit was from. I think it's because it was a t-shirt with a character on that lots of children had but available from different shops.

And before you all fucking judge about her losing a child in the airport, he got lost as a crowd walked in-between my sister and nephew and he didn't see her turn off.

Orangepear · 09/08/2017 12:30

I think it's cute. My 4yo and 1yo have a few matching or coordinating outfits and they like to match. Of course they are individuals but they are also siblings!

BattleaxeGalactica · 09/08/2017 12:32

I did it from time to time when my boys were too young to object. No idea and care less if anyone thought it naff.

Get over your uptight self, OP.

LAlady · 09/08/2017 12:33

My mum used to do this with my sister and I. We both absolutely hated it.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 09/08/2017 12:33

I think it's fine as long as / while the children are happy with it.

If my DM had tried it, though, I'd have raised hell.

PandorasXbox · 09/08/2017 12:34

It's totally Hun mania not my thing.

OhOurBilly · 09/08/2017 12:45

My dgm used to do this with me, my cousin and sister. If we didn't have the same then we have the same pattern but in different colours. I never minded it. If I have another dc I'd totally dress them the same or matchy matchy! But I like doing matchy matchy with ds so I'm the worst . 😁

My girls (8&11) like dressing the same on occasion, they find it hilarious. And often like the same clothes so I end up buying 2 identical same size stuff.

They don't even vaguely look like each other, which I'm not sure makes it that little bit worse, like i've tried to match 2 random kids.

nomorebabiesyet · 09/08/2017 13:46

I hate it and didnt want to do it! But! The boys aged 4 and 2.5 argue all the tine until they are wearing the same thing! They are so jealous if each other. They are like twins. 18 months apart so like exactly the same thinga. Youbgest copies tgs eldest. If one is wearing apiderman the other one has to too etc. Its exhausting. Just out the t shirt i gave you on! And the rare days they will wear sonething different means when they both want to wear it next time it is likely one of them is in the wash! Angry
