Been home 5 mins from hairdressers.
Just got a weft in for £350 and don't know what I expected but this just isn't it...
Doesn't it look lank?
What do you think?

Tbh it's hard to find any hairdressers who will cut and style extensions...

Lindsay you're right - extensions are totally different to your own head of hair and I've only ever had mine styled/cut by the person who put them in

AngelaTwerkel · 08/08/2017 12:57

I'm all for hair extensions as long as they're ethical. I don't think it hurts to be aware, and this thread is a good enough place to raise that awareness. If someone started their own thread about the ethics of hair extensions would anyone read it? Doubt it.

From the Guardian:

"Much of the hair on sale comes from small agents who tour villages in India, China, and eastern Europe, offering poverty-stricken women small payments to part with their hair. ... "They are not doing it for fun. Usually only people who have temporary financial difficulties in depressed regions sell their hair." ...In 2006, the Observer reported that in India some husbands were forcing their wives into selling their hair, slum children were being tricked into having their heads shaved in exchange for toys, and in one case a gang stole a woman's hair, holding her down and cutting it off."

Viviennemary · 08/08/2017 13:02

It does look a natural colour. Maybe it just needs styled. But you would think at that price styling and cutting would be included.

Wawawaa · 08/08/2017 13:29

I think it looks lovely!

crazycatgal · 08/08/2017 13:46

@nina2b she actually did a massive post further down slagging off tan, tattoos, eyebrow microblading. The post wasn't talking about extension ethics it was just slagging people off for doing things to their appearance.

Rossigigi · 08/08/2017 14:39

OP you need to find a good
Hairdresser just to give it a good cut and it will look fine- the washing is an improvement just don't cut it anymore yourself!!

user1495656648 · 08/08/2017 17:33

its not good is it. i mean its alright if it was a friend that did it and its perfectly wearable, BUT that is not what you get from a professional for £350!! sorry

Cocobing29 · 08/08/2017 17:37

They need cutting

Motherof3beautfulgirls · 08/08/2017 17:50

That's mine. £280 from someone who does it from home. I would never expect a salons work to look like your one. Sorry OP, I wouldn't be happy

I know tonnes of stylists (ex model) and would not be 100% happy with it ... the extensions don't look too bad but definitely should have been fuller and cut / styled properly. The more recent pic with trim is definitely an improvement. I know it can be a pain to find anyone but I found actually just going into a few salons and asking its amazing what they can do.

Cubtrouble · 08/08/2017 18:12

I would be furious. I expect your actual hair looked nice before, it looks like strips of hair and obvious. I'm sorry this isn't what you want to hear but I'm sure with a trim it could look better .

MyheartbelongstoG · 08/08/2017 18:14

And I'm not even a vegetarian lol

HollyBuckets · 08/08/2017 18:27

OP I think you're being unrealistic about what you need to do to make long straight hair look like the advert. Maybe because you've been sucked in by the glossy pictures of models etc etc with long hair?

have waist length hair, all natural (and blonde too). It's very fine but I have a lot of it so it's thick. My hair is actually quite lovely (so hair dresser's tell me when they cut it!) and it's pretty straight with a bit of a wave occasionally. To get my natural hair to look like the advert, I"d have to have a layered cut, wash it, blow dry it, then style it with curler tongs, or use big heated rollers, plus a lot of hair dryer action. It would take about an hour - my hair takes ages to dry. There'd also be product and use of straighteners to get that shine (although it's easier on that sort of dark brown/mouse colour than on blonde).

So maybe you just aren't used to styling long hair? And expect too much. For me, the joy of long hair is putting it up in a long pony tail, or a fancy bun or French roll or plait style.

HollyBuckets · 08/08/2017 18:28

Extensions look "dead" because the hair is dead.

Well, all hair is "dead" it's a protein structure. But I agree - extensions aren't like real hair.

nina2b · 08/08/2017 18:29

I know. What I meant was it us no longer attached to the real owner.

nina2b · 08/08/2017 18:30

...it is...

HollyBuckets · 08/08/2017 18:37

Oh I see! Yes agreed. Like others upthread, I don't know why people can't make the best of what they've got. But then, I'm like Jo in Little Women - my hair is my only beauty! So my long hair + fringe covers my face mostly, thank goodness Grin

HolyShmoly · 08/08/2017 18:50

It looks better now that you've washed and styled it, but it probably still needs a decent cut. If you can afford it and want to stay in town, try Mops or Savannah. I'm sure I've seen Mops style someone's hair and she had extensions (I asked after she left because it was proper princess hair.)
By any chance was the place you went to in town, near the top of Northumberland Street?

cheval · 08/08/2017 19:41

I recommended a friend to a 'famous' hairdresser via another friend who was a woman's editor in the city. They charged her a fortune, took no time to do it, cut was completely wonky. Felt awful. Suggested she complained, but for lots of reasons, she decided not to. If you are unhappy, I would tell them. It's a lot of money.

The extensions themselves are fine, there's just no finishing. It's how my (natural) hair would look if it wasn't cut, shaped and styled.
Needs a cut and a style and you'll be well away.
They should have done that if that was what was advertised

Leebee11 · 08/08/2017 20:18

I'm a hairdresser I've cut a lot of Extensions it just needs a good cut and blending in a bit. £350 is a lot of money you should go back and give them the chance to put it right.

sheldonesque · 08/08/2017 20:33

OP if they advertise the luxuriant waves then it would be false advertising if they couldn't recreate something similar for you. If 'wags' get the full preen then so should you.

I am rubbish at piping up too if I'm not happy - would it be easier to do it by phone?

Sorry for not being hugely helpful. My hair is a disgrace with bald patches. I've learned to live with it but in times gone by I used to waltz out of a salon feeling better about myself - as my bald bits were miraculously hidden by skilled partings/curling.

For you to post suggests that isn't the case for you. And it bloody well should be a glorious swishing waltz for 350 notes. You will still probably need to get it cut though (as some have said) but I'm sure someone will be able to recommend a great hairdresser in your area.

Give them a wee phone. x

Strygil · 08/08/2017 20:51

Anyone who spends £350 on a hairdo has more money than sense.
