Been home 5 mins from hairdressers.
Just got a weft in for £350 and don't know what I expected but this just isn't it...
Doesn't it look lank?
What do you think?

Yorick, I just have a handful of them, not even 1%.

I think I got carried away with the "It's for cancer" when I donated. I just never thought we'd end up here. if I had thought for a minute we could end up with a trade in human hair where the hair "owners" got a pittance and no choice sometimes, I would have thought that everyone should just stick to synthetic.

when it's cut off and made into a wig, does it retain softness?

PoorYorick · 09/08/2017 12:36

I don't know much about wig care, just a bit about the circumstances fir donating. I guess that since it's no longer growing and being replaced, it would eventually break and need replacing. Several inches are needed to knot it in place under the wig cap, which is why it needs to be long. I was also told not to worry if you don't have shampoo model hair...people who need wigs often want something as close to their real hair as possible, so that includes all types, plus it takes several heads of hair to make one wig.

If we could be sure all human hair was willingly given (and being forced into it by poverty doesn't count) then I'd have no worry.

Sorry I haven't read the whole thread yet but why would you leave the hairdressers after paying your money if you weren't happy??

If you wanted layers or for it to be curled then why didn't you ask??

RubbishMantra · 09/08/2017 14:00

I think it can look good after some layering to blend the 2 different hairs together, and some layering to take the bluntness out of the ends. Without some layering, it will always look like 2 different lengths of hair, and the extensionists should be able to direct you to a stylist who can do this for you, considering they freely admit they offer extensions only without shaping. Don't be tempted to keep snipping away at it yourself though!

Also, an in-salon deep conditioning treatment will help restore shine - it's likely to have been a while since the extension hair has been conditioned.

PersianCatLady · 09/08/2017 14:19

I washed it and trimmed the ends
Surely any decent hairdresser would have done this for you when you were there??

Shhhh · 09/08/2017 14:32

I dont think it looks too bad, the hair in the picture needs styling. You need to style it yourself that's all.
Have you contacted the salon ?

Beadieeye · 09/08/2017 15:39

OP, I think it already looks infinitely better now that you've tweaked it yourself.
The only person who should be concerned about the cost is yourself. Maybe you could easily afford it, maybe you saved for months. No one's business.
On another note, it's so annoying when more 'prestigious' customers receive a superior service when you're paying the exact same money.

Nothing worse than paying to get your hair messed up. It's happened to me before :-(

JessieMcJessie · 09/08/2017 23:01

I asked this question up the thread but nobody answered me- I see that Motherof3beautifulgirls has just posted another photo - can anyone tell me why it seems to be standard to advertise extensions with a photo showing the same head twice, sort of merged together?

Piwi1625 · 10/08/2017 01:20

When you go to the hairdressers next time and your in the chair, while they are styling it so not smile, keep your face serious until they get your hair the way you want it If you don't like to say verbally you don't like something. It works 😊

Edsheeranalbumparty · 10/08/2017 08:59

My friend has hair extensions made from 'temple hair' which is hair cut from Indian women during a ritual sacrifice to the gods. The women apparently do this freely, and if the hair wasn't used for extensions it would presumably be swept up and chucked away?

I guess this is more ethical and doesn't involve anyone being kidnapped/forced to cut their hair off, but I don't know, it still doesn't sit right with me? But then I can't really talk as I'm sure some the clothes in my wardrobe/items in my house were made in a sweatshop.

Trollspoopglitter · 10/08/2017 09:02

There's a very distinct colour difference betweeen your hair and extension. I can see exactly where it's being blended in and that's just a small photo on my phone Confused
