Apparently my husband Dosent and " why would I " Hmm
And the Lords Prayer is " all brainwashing bollox anyway " along with his theory That the christian church and the Catholic church are brainwashing bollox that sacrifice goats
I'm actually very disappointed in him
the Lords Prayer was said in primary school by the majority of primary school pupils right ? It was as commonplace as singing hymns
Admittedly I don't know the WHOLE of the National Anthem but I know the first verse at least
I find his attitude just fucking pig ignorant and down right rude
He's 46 years old for Christ sakes he's not 20 where it's probably not the done thing now

Yes, Dam busters.

squoosh · 06/08/2017 22:25

Isn't that the dambusters?

I think it's Here Comes the Bride.

notaslimceagirl · 06/08/2017 22:25

It's not clever not to know it.

I think you'll find that double negatives indicate a poor grasp of the English Language.

caoraich · 06/08/2017 22:25

Balfe yep you're spot on there Grin

I'm 30. Haven't a clue about the lord's prayer. I know it ends (sometimes) with forever and ever amen because Dara O'Brien told me so. Standard state primary school, non-religious parents. We never, ever prayed at school. There were hymns and songs from various religions, though.

I've never been to a Christian wedding or funeral, except some Catholic ones where prayer was all in Gaelic. Why should I know it?

Know the Flower of Scotland due to Rugby matches. I know the tunes but no words to God Save the Queen. Have never had occasion to sing it.

GherkinSnatch · 06/08/2017 22:26
From 15 seconds ish. We all just stand and do a bagpipe impression.

The dam busters would also make a good national anthem, so long as everyone gets with the programme and makes finger goggles over their eyes.

Buthewasstillhungry · 06/08/2017 22:27

We had to do the lords prayer at school loads and I never quite got the hang of it.
Lion is the kingdom, the witch and the wardrobe forever and ever Amen.

RebelRogue · 06/08/2017 22:28

I know TLP in two languages,do I get a cookie?Grin

BeyondQueenOfLists · 06/08/2017 22:28

Scotland the brave and Dambusters, eh?

"I am the music man, I come from down your way, and I can plaaaay...."

CadnoDrwg · 06/08/2017 22:29

I know the Welsh national anthem but no idea about the British/English (at least according to international sporting events).

I know the Lords Prayer in Welsh not English.

I can't say my lack of knowing either has hindered my intellectual, social or economic experiences to be honest.

Jessiecat27 · 06/08/2017 22:29

Beyondqueenoflists ooh now that's one everyone should know! I'd rather that as our 'national anthem'Grin

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 06/08/2017 22:30

Atheist, attended a Baptist church in my youth, went to a Welsh language comp. I know Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau by heart. GSTQ - I know the Sex Pistols version Wink
I know the Welsh language Lord's Prayer and the correct English language Lord's Prayer with the 'temptation' line, none of the debtors bullshit. I'm told that's the Catholic version but it's the only one I know, in my universe... Wink

twoheaped · 06/08/2017 22:30

National anthem of Wales yes, English one no.
Prayer, yes. Recited many a time at school though I may struggle to get all the words right now.

squoosh · 06/08/2017 22:31

Ár nAthair a tá ar neamh

SallyGardens · 06/08/2017 22:31

I know Amhránn na bhFiann in both English & Irish. And all the words of Ireland's Call.

I also learnt the Our Father in both languages and the Hail Mary in both as well as French and Latin. The joys of an Irish Catholic education 😁 though I have no earthly use for any version of either these days.

TriskelArts · 06/08/2017 22:31

I get the mumbles on the 'extra Protestant' bit of the Our Father, but, despite being a militant atheist, am still word perfect on the Memorare from my distant youth being frogmarched out the door to the Legion of Mary. And also know the embarrassing dirge-like tune and words to GSTQ, despite being a foreigner and republican who thinks she shouldn't be saved at all. The words to 'Ireland's Call' are nearly as cringe-inducing, mind you.

squoosh · 06/08/2017 22:32

I've never heard the debtor's version!

Oakmaiden · 06/08/2017 22:32

My little boy was convinced the words were:

"Our father,
Enchanted heaven,
Halloween my name"

Actually, I think I like his version better.

cdtaylornats · 06/08/2017 22:32

There are two versions of the Lords Prayer.

Line 7 & 8 in the traditional version is

Forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive them that trespass against us

While Mathew 6:9-13 says

And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.

emochild · 06/08/2017 22:32

I know both but I went to a wedding a while ago that used a different version of TLP to the one I know so I had a panic about which version to use
Ended up going with the version printed in the order of service but it felt so wrong not in a religious sense, in a 'the words don't fit together properly' sense

nikiforov · 06/08/2017 22:33

I don't know any of the national anthem and I know a bit of the Lord's Prayer, but I'd refuse to say/sing either if asked now.

GherkinSnatch · 06/08/2017 22:33

squoosh I first heard the 'debtors' version at Brownies. I didn't know what was going on.

Good call on the music man.

Pia Pia noooooooo

ItWentDownMyHeartHole · 06/08/2017 22:34

It's unthinking stuff though isn't it? I'm atheist (third generation, very proud) so both are ridiculous for me. And anything simply learned by rote has less meaning. I don't think it's your DH who's BU. Like him I'm happy to stay ignorant.

squoosh · 06/08/2017 22:34

As if I'd ever forgive a debtor!
