Come all ye Safe Crackers - AIBU to move without opening it?

Fool that I am, I chose AIBU for my first post. Eek! Here goes.

15 years ago we moved into our beautiful home. In the downstairs room (family room I guess) there is a large walk-in closet. In the back of that closet, to the right, there is another smaller closet, without a door. The bottom 3 feet is raised, and carpeted, oddly. Hardwood floors everywhere but there. DH poked around, and lo and behold: the raised floor (I shall draw a diagram if I this thread gets any interest - I know it is a prerequisite in circumstances such as these) lifts up! It is a carpet covered fake floor covering A LOCKED SAFE. A rather large, locked safe. Locked tight. It is built into the cupboard.

So here's my AIBU. Is it unreasonable to spend $500 or so to have a locksmith come crack it? We are preparing to sell up, and could find lots of other things to do with that money. We could leave it for the new owners to open, but where is the fun in that? On the other hand, what if it has even one thing of wonder (or value) locked inside?

Would you crack it?

Loud drilling again. It is 1 13 pm and I'm trying to eat somr breakfast to stop me from throwing up. Been up since 5 30 but all this puts you off your food.

To poster asking if new home has been checked yet. New home has not been found yet. Crazy market here. Realtor tells us homes in our neighborhood will sell in 10 days max. Cash. Norm is to let seller stay rent free for another 30 to 45 days, during which time we shall be out trying to find new home, cash. It is a great market to be a seller. Going to be tight being the winning offer on house we want. I may have to start a support thread when we get to that place.

2017 I asked about the new house. The US system sounds pretty stressful. DH works in property so he is now very interested in the property market where you are and in the safe saga. He'll be turning up on your doorstep shortly
