We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we?

Lukewarm Remain voter here. Understand that the Government has to listen to 'the will of the people' and all that.

But for the love of God, now that it's clear what absolute economic suicide we're committing surely we've got to put a halt to it whilst the govt and the opposition work out what the fuck's going on!

Mummy, the EU are united. Not against us, but for their own benefit.

It's us that were stupid enough to say we're going to leave, therefore we don't get to keep all the benefits. It's not rocket surgery.

The fact that you keep seeing everything as an attack on the UK say rather more for your paranoia than for the decision making processes of the EU.

Mummy, can you please explain how we are going to be able to get better trade deals with the rest of the world, bearing in mind our drop in size and clout once we leave the EU. Also bear in mind that they have to be so much better to make up for the loss of trade overall/ increase in tariffs with the EU.

mummmy2017 · 09/08/2017 11:29

I never said we would get a better deal with them, but we will have to trade on the WTA until we can create our own agreements.
Don't forget IF this happened we would not be paying the EU anything.
With the money not paid to EU this loss can be of set, wish I could find the paper it was written by a reconsidered leading expert on this stuff, and was a what do we do if paper.
What I am saying is should the worse happen there are ways to sort something out, no not ideal, but there to be used if necessary.

mummmy2017 · 09/08/2017 11:31

The UK is already a WTO member but will need to extricate itself from the European Union (EU) ‘schedules’. we joined in 1948

mummmy2017 · 09/08/2017 11:43

No, thats why is a fall back plan, not a we want to do this one.
What it does mean however is that we can still trade with other countries. Should the worse happen.

Peregrina · 09/08/2017 11:55

No, thats why is a fall back plan, not a we want to do this one.

But wasn't Brexit all about taking control? We should be hearing about what we want to do - apart from have our cake and eat it, which is not an option.

No, no, no. Apparently it is VU to even think about those nasty problematic details. You just have to believe it will all be totally awesome.

CardinalSin · 09/08/2017 12:22

Not better, different.

So you already accept that it's going to be worse.

Come on everybody, Take Back Control!

mummmy2017 · 09/08/2017 12:25

whosafraidofabigduckfart does this not just back up my WTA comment.
No deal, no payment, WTA
We just don't know, all we can do is surmise as we aren't nor ever will be told more than the end results.

CardinalSin · 09/08/2017 12:25

We should be hearing about what we want to do

As Elements says, absolutely not. You simply have to have blind faith in the lying idiots who got us into this mess, and everything will work out for the best.

TheElementsSong · 09/08/2017 12:31

You simply have to have blind faith

It's weird, isn't it Cardinal? Passively lying back and thinking of England just accepting whatever we end up with - is this some obscure definition of Taking Control with which I was hitherto unaware (being of insufficient IQ)?

mummmy2017 · 09/08/2017 12:32

At some point you really do have to accept that we can do nothing.
Protest all you like, but there is nothing we can do, no matter how many court cases are bought, or how much flag waving.
The EU won't let us back out, and to be honest I don't want us to.
Answer to most of your questions should be I have no idea I am not in the room with these people, so i just have to wait and see, like everyone else.
Good or bad it's happening, we are giving birth to this baby, and it will arrive kicking and screaming, yes we will have to feed and wipe it's arse, but it will grown and one day be an adult.

Maybe, but that point isn't now, because, however often you assert that it can't be stopped yet another Brexiteer lie, the fact is that it can be stopped. There may not be the political will to stop it yet, but once the politicians get the message that it is no longer the "will of the people", and that they will pay for going ahead with it, the situation could change quickly.

mummmy2017 · 09/08/2017 12:43

That point was passed when we voted.
voted once to leave.
voted to have TM as PM.
They were taken to court, and still it goes on.
The EU said we are out.
The PM said we are out.
The baby is on the way...

twofingerstoEverything · 09/08/2017 12:44

We should be hearing about what we want to do

...and then following sheep-like wherever we are led once the hearing is heard... Tis destiny, innit?

We're going to have to call a halt to Brexit aren't we?
LaurieMarlow · 09/08/2017 12:45

It can be stopped. The guy who wrote the terms of article 50 came out and said there is scope for it to be reversed.

I think the EU would be happy enough to let us drop it. Macron as good as said that. It would save them huge hassle. Plus it looks good for the EU - UK tried to leave, thought better of it.

LaurieMarlow · 09/08/2017 12:46

I'm not sure what your point is mummy

Yes it's a disaster, but who hoo, it's happening anyway? Confused

Doesn't sound smart to me.
