You can't just put in a fire door exiting over someone else's property. You need to be granted a right of way, and if you don't have one of those they can block your exit. They are not obliged to grant you a ROW.

BoffinMum · 30/07/2017 09:29

And YY to not being egged on by people having a larf on here. This is not school. You need to be level headed and adult in order to avoid extensive and expensive legal problems. Even defending our right of access cost us £1000 at a time when we had no spare cash at all. Otherwise there would be a massive house there now looking into our bedroom window, seriously (yes, reader, they easily got planning permission for such a monstrosity).

BeepBeepMOVE · 30/07/2017 09:29

If the police won't deal with CFN trying to steal her garden then they certainly won't care about a bit of tape on a door that isn't allowed to be there. They will use the old "civil matter " thing.

I agree cable ties would have been better as cause no damage. Can't believe everyone is worried about blocking a fire escape though. It should be a window into a small, completely enclosed, walled garden. Not to mention the fact CFN aren't even bloody in!!

mummyofmoomoos · 30/07/2017 09:30

Fantastic Queenie!

BeepBeepMOVE · 30/07/2017 09:31

It is not a fire exit.

They have obviously been recently converted so up to regs. There is another flat with the same layout of no garden door.

diddl · 30/07/2017 09:31

If it was to be an emergency exit then Op would have been informed, wouldn't she?

I'd take the tape off & put something in front of the doors.

A fence panel preferably-although that would only have to come down when the/a window is put back.

LakieLady · 30/07/2017 09:32

Doctrine of clean hands, @mrsheathy85? The doors by their very existence are illegal. The CFN's hands are not clean, therefore by the doctrine of clean hands, they cannot then ask the justice system to help them with any "crimes" committed against them?

And Watty and her amazing friend are merely abating a nuisance, ie the unlawful trespass into her private garden and flytipping building waste.

Jg1 · 30/07/2017 09:33

A round of applause for MsMarvel Star

Housemum · 30/07/2017 09:34

Another vote for removing the tape - it's not a fire exit as it's a window, but you could argue that in an emergency it could have been used as such. (Unless original window just had those little top opening bits). If you could have technically got out of the window before, just put as PP above said a light trellis across that would get broken if someone opened the door. If it wasn't possible to get out of the previous window, cable tie handles together and/or put heavy item in front of the doors

As the handles of the door protrude out over OP land, doesn't that mean that she can gaffertape them shut? A bit like you can trim back hedges and trees if the over hang your garden. (Wishful thinking maybe but I love DTB and the gorilla tape)

simon50 · 30/07/2017 09:38

Sorry Florene if you didn't like my comment about breach of peace.
First I wish to make it very clear I have the greatest respect for you guys and the very difficult job you have.
My comment is coloured by a bad experience a few years ago. I will try to keep this short.
I had a neighbour who had a history of drink and violence including a knife (in the 7 years he lived here he served 3 prison terms). One day he turned up a my front door asking to borrow money, which I refused, after that when he was drunk we became his target (every time this happened I logged it with the police). It culminated one afternoon with him brandishing some sort of weapon, kicking my front door and making threats to kill. It took 4 coppers to restrain him. He was back out the next day and contiuned with the verbal abuse. I only found out after that it got reduced to d&d and the magistrate said "as you spent the night in the cells your free to go!" Soon after that he went down for another 18 months for violence again and not seen him since.
So I'm well aware how quickly thing can get out of hand, that was why I made my comment.

Vango · 30/07/2017 09:38

The OP does not strike me as someone easily "egged on" by other posters. Her friend taped the doors and I suspect wattyyyy will soon untape them. Thus far, wattyyyy has done everything by the book.

ClashCityRocker · 30/07/2017 09:39

Don't get me wrong I totally agree with ops right to block access but gorilla tape is way way stronger than duct tape and is near impossible to get off once on... I've had two two inch strips of the double sided stuff holding my heavy living room blinds up for the last six years, and they ain't going anywhere.

Ex-window from The Board.

This is similar to the window that was stolen.

Doesn't look like it would open so no means of climbing out of it.

Floralnomad · 30/07/2017 09:42

especially with these threads read out in eveidence
Why would anyone use these threads , it's just a bunch of overinvested loons egging the OP into being ridiculous .

FloweryBaps · 30/07/2017 09:42

I've been following the thread since the beginning and I'm gripped.

De-lurking to request that Isle of Man be added to the countries experiencing a sharp fall in productivity over the last few days. Keeping up with the CFN saga is a full time commitment. Grin

Another vote for removing the tape and replacing with a cable tie or something heavy.

BeyondThePage · 30/07/2017 09:43

The tape is fine - the tape is around the handles which are encroaching on the land owned by the OP. If she put tape onto the doors, that would possibly be problematic, but because the tape is over her land and the handles should not be, she won't get into any trouble.

Mix56 · 30/07/2017 09:43

sabbatical , hello, fellow, mellow, yellow,??

C8H10N4O2 · 30/07/2017 09:44

Can't believe that this morning we have two new songs to put on Trello Grin Loving people calling it Trellis - perhaps it should have its own Mumsnet account as MrsTrellis.

So now its 24 countries (but no Korea sadly) and anthems, operatic arias, rock songs, Shakespearian prologue and some terrifying volunteers for OPPUV.

And Spiderman's Arse.

And my Saturday todo list is still on item 1, that bottle of pinot grigio is more than half empty and eldest DC has looked pityingly at me on skype this morning when I was telling him about the thread.

TheMaddHugger · 30/07/2017 09:45

@SchadenfreudePersonified

see if this works, I haven't tried the ^ before

Isle of Man added to the countries list. Just longing for someone to pop up from Korea.
