to read on my phone in the cinema?

Just that really, taking the kids to see Captain Underpants at the cinema this afternoon and am wondering if I can read a book using the kindle app on my phone? Or will the light annoy people? I would still have it turned off so it won't ring or anything.

My youngest is only 5 so I feel he's still a bit small to sit in the cinema without an adult while I sit in the cafe in the foyer, which would have been my number one choice.

Its so bright and noisy that a small phone light (or a baby having a moan - another thread) wouldn't impinge on anyone else!!!

Oh it would, and it does. I recently saw WotPotA, great film, but right before the emotional end some twat got his phone out and drew my eyes away from the screen, ruining the ending for me.

It's expensive going to the cinema; I don't want it spoiled by selfish idiots who think going on their phone or bringing a whinging baby is acceptable.

QuimReaper · 29/07/2017 13:32

Crunchy of course it's disruptive!

Knitting in the cinema Shock the twitchy repetitive movement would be so distracting, I'm surprised you've never ended up being poked in the eye with your own needle.

RandomDent · 29/07/2017 13:43

Sorry Mr K, Captain Underpants is utter tosh with a few good jokes thrown in to break up the crap. And I love children's films usually.
I did go on my phone a couple of times. Neither of my children noticed, nor did the man next to me who was doing exactly the same thing.
I can guarantee I will be on my phone during The Emoji Movie. Ugh. :o

BetterEatCheese · 29/07/2017 13:46

Can you maybe listen to an audiobook?
I've heard good things about the film though, maybe watch it and you can then talk to your son afterwards about it.

Migraleve · 29/07/2017 13:47

Fucking hell your kid is FIVE! Why can't you watch the movie with him? Do you not talk about things he has done? Because it's likely he will talk about the film afterwards. He won't forget your disinterest in him.

What a shame :(

runningyogabooze · 29/07/2017 13:48

YABU

Ppl who do this are fucking rude. I go to the cinema in a further away part of town to avoid the hoodies who do this.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/07/2017 13:50

How rude and selfish of you.

specialsubject · 29/07/2017 13:51

Doing boring stuff is one of the things you signed up for when you stopped using condoms. Sorry!

RandomDent · 29/07/2017 13:52

I think Patrick Stweart will cope with me ignoring his turn as Poo.

Bluntness100 · 29/07/2017 13:54

This is why I don't go to the cinema any more.

Wow, really? That's a shame for you, it is annoying but very rare in my experience,

Who is Jason isaacs?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 29/07/2017 14:01

Who is Jason isaacs?

Shock

Exceptionally famous very hot British actor. Played Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter among many, many other roles.

cremedelashite · 29/07/2017 14:10

They've asked me to put my phone away when I've tried to read texts etc. I have great sleeps during kids cinema.

Bluepansies · 29/07/2017 14:13

I used to work in a cinema and if people had phones out we'd ask them to be put away as the light is very visible in a dark room (duh) and very annoying to everyone else

WannaBeDelgadaToFitInToMyPrada · 29/07/2017 14:14

I am the voice of dissent. I wouldn't care at all!

Just turn down the brightness on your phone!

Suck it up for your child. Its only 2 hours or if you cant. Dont go.

madcapcat · 29/07/2017 14:25

Hello to Jason Isaacs from me too, though a little surprised that there aren't more members of the Church here...

Whowouldfardelsbear · 29/07/2017 14:28

We went to see Despicable Me yesterday and there was a small boy on a tablet playing a game (with headphones) but also shouting and shrieking at intervals. Totally spoiled it for me. I only didn't say anything as i was with 5 children.

Tinkerty tonk old fruit and down with the Nazis.

This.

beebee7 · 29/07/2017 14:32

WOW you even have to ask OP? Of course it will be annoying. Very few things piss me off more than people scrolling through their phone when I am at the cinema. Very irritating and off-putting. Hmm

In one cinema in the town a few miles from me, they stopped people doing this, and will throw you out after one warning. Too right.

worridmum · 29/07/2017 14:35

I wish it was like america were they have staff in the room for exactly this reason (ok not all cinemas but the one in my husbands hometown did).

And they did throw people out and no you wouldnt get your money back if you were thrown out.

hmcAsWas · 29/07/2017 14:39

"Have people been to the cinema recently??? Its so bright and noisy that a small phone light (or a baby having a moan - another thread) wouldn't impinge on anyone else!!!"

What are you on about Crunchymum??? - I go to the cinema at least once per month. The auditorium is completely dark and only the screen itself is bright - oh and the occasional seat is illuminated where some idiot is checking their phone
