Just that really, taking the kids to see Captain Underpants at the cinema this afternoon and am wondering if I can read a book using the kindle app on my phone? Or will the light annoy people? I would still have it turned off so it won't ring or anything.

My youngest is only 5 so I feel he's still a bit small to sit in the cinema without an adult while I sit in the cafe in the foyer, which would have been my number one choice.

Hello to Jason Isaacs from me too Wink

OP I see you've been thoroughly told Grin but other Wittertainees will tell you that you're likely to have the time of your life in Captain Underpants, apparently it's an unexpected gem!

Starflame · 29/07/2017 12:13

This is a joke right? Hmm

notpostedherebefore · 29/07/2017 12:14

I went to see it yesterday (with 9,8, and 3 year old DCs) and had exactly the same thought process but cinema was busy so felt too guilty. Amazingly...it's not actually unwatchably bad (got a great review in the Guardian of all places)..I quite enjoyed it.

I take my knitting...

I take my knitting...

Oh good god. If you were sat near me and all I could hear in the background was "click clack click clack" while trying to watch the film I'd tell you to put them away, and get the staff in if you didn't.

Fekko · 29/07/2017 12:16

Clickity clickity clack clack click? Oh no!

LadyPenelope68 · 29/07/2017 12:17

Enjoy the film with your children, it's about seeing their pleasure as well. I'd be asking you to switch it off if you were near me.

quarterpast · 29/07/2017 12:21

No don't take your kindle. When I take my kids to the cinema I join in with them, get popcorn and a big coffee and just enjoy the experience and their excitement.

One thing that drives me nuts though about kids films is that quite often you will be sitting down waiting for the film to start, and then somebody will come in late and sit right in front of the kids.

Why don't adults get that at a kids film if they sit directly in front of a child their big head will block the view?! Obviously I'm not talking about if it's packed and there's nowhere to go but if there is a choice why aren't people a bit more aware that there will be kids at a kids movie??

Head phones and an Audio book?

PiratePanda · 29/07/2017 12:22

Not sure why everyone's saying hello to Jason Isaacs, but hello from me too (I love you!)

Ohmyfuck · 29/07/2017 12:26

Please don't do that. It costs a lot to go to the cinema and you would ruin peoples' day out. It's really not on. Just don't take him if you feel you can't follow the rules.

Lynnm63 · 29/07/2017 12:31

I thought I'd missed a Jason Isaacs reference but was too lazy to read back. However hello Mr Isaacs 👋 From me too.

anchor9 · 29/07/2017 12:32

just watch the bloody film for gods sake. not only is this rude to the other people in the cinema it's a shit show for your children too. join in with your children. christ. Confused

Serenity05 · 29/07/2017 12:36

Hopefully you've got the message by now that you would be completely unreasonable to do this. I want to throw my popcorn at people who do this. It might not be as bad as you think though. Check out Mark Kermode's review - he loved it!

BabychamSocialist · 29/07/2017 12:44

I've sat through my fair share of shit kids films. DP used to take his walkman and earphones and listen to the cricket, which is less bad than a screen lighting up the room!

Spudlet · 29/07/2017 12:45

For those seeking enlightenment on the matter of Mr Issacs, ye must attend the Church of Wittertainment my children, then shall ye come to understanding!

The cinema could throw you out as their monitors will show someone using a phone and possibly filming.

Its bad manners not showing a good example watch the film so you can talk to your kids abut it after and show them how to behave when stuff doesn't interest you like school work.

Crunchymum · 29/07/2017 12:48

I was on MN the whole way through Smurfs. Granted the cinema was pretty empty though.

Crunchymum · 29/07/2017 12:50

Have people been to the cinema recently??? Its so bright and noisy that a small phone light (or a baby having a moan - another thread) wouldn't impinge on anyone else!!!

morningconstitutional2017 · 29/07/2017 12:53

I'm sure it would annoy people. The film may not be to your taste but why not try to enjoy it with your child and you can have a conversation about it afterwards?

coddiwomple · 29/07/2017 12:54

I have pretty much given up going to the cinema because of people who do that kind of thing.

If you are really that bored and don't want to rent the movie, you can investigate baby cinema. Usually the room is not in the dark, so your phone shouldn't bother others - but again, check! I think some theaters are louder than others, and brighter or darker than others.

coddiwomple · 29/07/2017 12:56

I assure you, it would. It does.
See how much a ticket costs, and how easy it is to pay for movies online, it really is not acceptable.

MeanAger · 29/07/2017 12:59

I hate people who take out their phones in the cinema. It is really distracting.

Also, I found Captain underpants quite funny. Grin

jannier · 29/07/2017 13:06

Crunchymum ...

I hate it...talking, kicking chairs, walking up and down handing food out, phones, etc.
I go and get the manager as I've paid too much for inconsiderate people who don't want to watch to ruin it for others.
Its never too bright or nosey unless you specifically book the autistic, baby or kids club screenings.

user1489675144 · 29/07/2017 13:11

How rude - quite annoying and disrespectful to people sitting near who do not wish to be distracted by the glare of a light nearby... are you really that ignorant that you have to ask?
