Ok WIBU at cinema?

Went to Electric Cinema (as a treat) to see Dunkirk.
Lady next to us on the sofas was talking to her daughter throughout.
I asked "Could you be quiet please?"
Her "I'm trying to explain the historical importance to my daughter"
Me "Could you do it later I'm trying to watch?"

Silence

Then when the film ended I dashed to the loo and the woman said to her daughter " Very good film shame about that rude woman"
DP comes back with "She wasn't being rude YOU were being rude for talking!"

At which point I came back and caught the tail end and said "If you wish to impart information to your daughter please do it before or after. NOT during! And I do have a 16 yr old daughter and I'd say the same to her. It's not my fault you felt the need to educate your special snowflake during the film that everyone else had paid to watch" (disclaimer was 3/4 way down a bottle of white wine)

OK WIBU or was she rude?

the woman said to her daughter " Very good film shame about that rude woman"

Amusing she could not see how her own behaviour was rude, but labels you rude for daring to challenge it.

I think that did rather call for a response...for all the good it's likely to do, however.

When I went to see Troy, years ago, there was a man behind me having to explain EVERYTHING to his kid (who was well under the 15 cert. age). If it hadn't been such an awful film, I might have minded. As it was, it gave me a way to tune out the actors' unbelievably bad pronunciation.

GabsAlot · 28/07/2017 20:19

i think your brilliant i hardly go cinema now theres always somone talkig or kids getting their phones out its rude an ignorant

GabsAlot · 28/07/2017 20:20

@staplescorner he shoved you down the stairs?

Serialweightwatcher · 28/07/2017 20:23

She started off being very rude by speaking through a film people have paid to see - you asked her to be quiet - she was then very rude about you ... I think you were well within your rights. If she carries on like that, she's not teaching her daughter good manners in the first place, so bubbles to her

Elland · 28/07/2017 20:23

I'm with you OP, 100%!

You were right to ask her to stop talking during the film and I think you were right to defend your DP.

If she didn't want a confrontation she shouldn't have called you a rude woman in earshot of your DP, he clearly was sticking up for you which he should do and then you equally stuck up for him.

Her DD does sound like a snowflake ❄️

eggsandwich · 28/07/2017 20:27

Was the film and good? my Dd and myself are going to see it Sunday.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 28/07/2017 20:30

Not unreasonable to ask her to be quiet but it sounds like you embarassed yourself ranting about it again half cut before you left.

Gemini69 · 28/07/2017 20:39

hahahahaaaa OP I seriously wish I'd seen this Grin

bloody brilliant Flowers

ScarlettSunshine · 28/07/2017 20:54

OT but I'm wondering why you and your DP didn't leave together, and you go to the toilet on your way out? How strange to go to the toilet when the film is finished, for him to sit there and wait for you to come back and collect your coats?

Not for any particular reason, I was just wondering all the way through reading the thread Grin

BMacklin · 28/07/2017 21:01

Good for you Op.

Well done Tefal. Hello to Jason Isaacs.

Palegreenstars · 28/07/2017 21:03

Tinkety tonk and down with the nazis

BMacklin · 28/07/2017 21:06

Grin pale

MadMags · 28/07/2017 21:27

But she didn't say anything to your dp.

She said something to her dd about you and he jumped in and got himself involved.

And, is he such a special snowflake that he needs you jumping in to defend him against the big bad woman and her teenager?

PovertyPain · 28/07/2017 22:09

Good for you OP, though to be fair, the mother sounds more like a special snowflake.

JoshLymanJr · 28/07/2017 22:12

There must be something about the Electric. I saw an argument nearly escalate into a punch-up over the eating of tortilla chips during The Artist.

If it's the same Electric that I'm thinking of, I can understand why you'd wait in the cinema for someone to come back from the loo - the lobby is about the size of my living room!

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 28/07/2017 22:16

She was a thundercunt, good for you!

JoshLymanJr · 28/07/2017 22:22

Tinkety tonk and down with the nazis

It'll all be alright

VeryButchyRestingFace · 28/07/2017 23:27

It's not my fault you felt the need to educate your special snowflake during the film that everyone else had paid to watch

Too much.

But you know that. Smile

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 28/07/2017 23:33

Dont think you were being unreasonable

I saw slumdog millionaire at the cinema

Man behind talked loads

But then he started answering the questions in the film...and every fucking one was the wrong answer!!!

I started just looking round....no difference

I did the ssshhhing bit.....no difference

I did the 'can you please stop talking' bit.....no difference

And then i said 'will you shut the fuck up'...and he did

I am really not fond of the special snowflake bit.

DrHorribletookmycherry · 28/07/2017 23:42

Special snowflake = an insult created by particularly cranky right wingers who felt criticising those of left wing tendencies as being whiners wasn't insulting enough.
So well done for that dear.

Tofutti · 28/07/2017 23:54

Staples i hope he was arrested for assault?!

MommaGee · 29/07/2017 00:08

You had me up until It's not my fault you felt the need to educate your special snowflake during the film that everyone else had paid to watch. Why bring a kid into the discussion just to be rude about her? Mom was rude, you were right to ask her to be quiet and given how small the Electric is i imagine she was passing off a fair few people but how is her daughter a "special snowflake"

StaplesCorner · 29/07/2017 00:40

No one else saw, it was still pitch black luckily I didn't hit the floor, just stumbled down a few steps as a result of the shove. Then he was gone before I could have got help. Looking back I wish I had tried to go after him but I am not exactly speedy!
