😱 without a doubt the biggest spider I've seen, when it was on the wall with its legs all spread out it was as big as the cup. I'm dying thinking about where it might have been crawling all night

If they don't like dirty houses then that fucker has single handedly cured my OCD.

Looks like he's escaped from the zoo Grin

HPandBaconSandwiches · 28/07/2017 10:47

I live in Queensland. That's just a tiddler 😁

Albatross26 · 28/07/2017 10:51

Fuck me Derek is massive! Weirdly I could happily hold a hairy tarantula but absolutely hate house spiders. Maybe it's their long legs but they creep me out in a way other spiders don't. Found a big bastard under the bath the other day, horror

MoonfaceAndSilky · 28/07/2017 10:59

Aw he's cute Grin

silkpyjamasallday · 28/07/2017 11:06

I'm not bothered by spiders, I had a bird eating spider put on my head as a child by request! DP brought one about the size of your friend home in a packet of loo roll last week. He does not like spiders and wouldn't open the pack to get a roll out, and we were totally out, I refused to help as he had bought horrid scented loo roll, so he had to go out again and get the right type before he could relieve himself Grin

lanouvelleheloise · 28/07/2017 11:11

I never saw spiders that size when I lived in the south, and was horrified on moving oop north to get regular visits from giant house spiders from midsummer to autumn. There is a secret to getting rid of them forever without having to burn yours house down, and that is to allow some Daddy Long Legs spiders (Pholcids) to hang around the corners of your house for a bit. Despite being much slighter and therefore infinitely less scary to have around, they actually predate these big ones. We haven't had one in our house for about 3 years, which is a blessed relief as they are HUGE.

Solo · 28/07/2017 11:14

Spiders are okay! The only ones I don't like (in the house) are False Widows. What I don't like are the massive 4 inch long and thick Leopard slugs I keep finding in my living room! Dd trod on one a couple of weeks ago with bare feet and screamed. Last night I must've trodden on one in my slippered foot as there was an odd patch of slime at the edge of the sofa where I was sitting followed by a trail that ended at the tail end of the slug trying to escape my foot. OP, I'll swap you!

darceybussell · 28/07/2017 11:20

I read that if they are house spiders it is too cold for them outside so they will just die anyway if you put them out.

You're going to have to squish it OP, it's the only humane thing to do Grin

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 28/07/2017 11:25

Drive to the it end of the country then let it out.

You can then expect to find it back running across your floor in a couple of days just when you've let your guard down.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 28/07/2017 11:26

Hmmm

That is a Grim Glass-Eating spider from Greater Swindon. I believe they're rather partial to foil too. Best keep an eye on it, it's looking a bit munchy.

Notagainmun · 28/07/2017 11:34

Please put a warning or the word spider in your title. I have a terrible phobia and just been physically sick after seeking that.

Upyourdaisy · 28/07/2017 11:39

Sorry Notagainmun I did report it about an hour ago, for the title to be edited or add a warning

I'm so terrified of spiders I'm a nervous wreck in September when the big ones comes out. I'm determined to so something about it and I'm (very) slowly getting better. I can deal with the spindly skinny ones but the massive ones still send me hysterical. I don't want me kids to be scared because at times it's been debilitating for me. Sounds ridiculous but that's how it is.
I find learning cool facts about them really helps. You begin to see them as useful rather than scary.
I don't think I'd be able to cope with that one yet though. Even the photo is making me feel all itchy and weird.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2017 11:48

How on earth do all the 'Trigger warning' posters make their way around the internet, on a normal day? Confused

I mean sites like BBC News/local news/FB/Twitter etc?

Also, why wouldn't you just click 'back' the second you spot the photo, rather than staying on the thread, posting about 'trigger warnings'?

I've never understood that.

MissionItsPossible · 28/07/2017 11:52

Oh, puh-lease! Doesn't look near the size of the one that was in my house a few months ago! Wink

YoullShootYourEyeOut · 28/07/2017 11:56

Don't kill it! I don't love spiders, but they do not deserve to be squished because we think they look scary. Have you got a shed or garage you could transfer it to?

toastandbutterandjam · 28/07/2017 11:58

I remember when a spider similar fell on me in the bath! Shock

I had one similar in my house a few weeks ago.
It was in my room - saw it on the floor, mum went to get a glass, came back and it was gone!Hmm
Looked under the bed etc, looked up and it was on the wall to my right. Confused
Then I went to go and get the dustpan and brush, so we could put it outside, came back and yes, it was gone. Left my bedroom and there it was, scattering across my living room floor Shock

I considered running outside last week to ask the builders to come and remove one from my bathroom ceiling Grin I didn't!

powernapsrule · 28/07/2017 12:00

Had an upset tummy yesterday so had to make a dash for the loo. Only after sitting on the seat did I spot this beast on the floor! Unfortunately nature wasn't allowing me to move so DH had to come to the rescue.

Since getting two cats we've had a lot less crawlies in the house, which is a godsend as I have an enormous fear of spiders! Dreamt about them all last night.

Spam88 · 28/07/2017 12:04

Omg why don't people put in the title that there are spider pictures 😭

SweetheartTreacleTart · 28/07/2017 12:04

Arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!! Well done for getting it in there, I would have run away! I hate spiders!

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/07/2017 12:04

RedBlu · 28/07/2017 12:04

I remember a few years ago when we lived in a flat, I was leaving to go to work and went to lock the door and this HUGE spider that looked pretty much the same as yours was sitting right next to the lock so if I wanted to lock the door, my hand would have to be right next to it. Normally I am not that bothered by spiders but this one was huge!

So I decided to carefully brush it off the door with a water bottle I had with me and on to the floor so I could get to the lock and head to work.

Well the fucker went apeshit - it actually charged at me. It was like something out of Indiana jones. Every time I tried to go around it to get to the door, it moved to be in front of me. I have never seen a spider act that way other than on wildlife shows!

Anyway, it was him or me - so I attacked it with the bottle, ran to the door locked it and ran off.

I missed my bus to work as well 😡

HotNatured · 28/07/2017 12:11

I'm impressed that you managed to get near close enough to put it in the glass. I'm literally TERRIFIED of spiders, I have a visceral reaction to photos too (trigger notice?!).

I wish I wasn't so scared, I'm moving the country from London soon and I'm quite concerned about what eight legged freaks might be sharing with me Shock Grin
