😱 without a doubt the biggest spider I've seen, when it was on the wall with its legs all spread out it was as big as the cup. I'm dying thinking about where it might have been crawling all night

I like spiders. Don't hurt it. Just put it out in the garden.

chips4teaplease · 28/07/2017 09:37

I caught one like that. In a jam jar, but all it's legs were bent to get it in. It tried to pounce on me several times, even after I'd got it in the jar.

Upyourdaisy · 28/07/2017 09:37

I'm not going to kill it. It's clearly planning to attack me though

Agree with a couple of other posters, please dont kill it, or any spider. I leave them in my house, they dont want to hurt you or be anywhere near you and if they are it is by mistake. They do good, and no harm.

JungleInTheRumble · 28/07/2017 09:51

Vegancow you should put them outside, houses are too dry for them and there's not enough for them to eat (according to the spider keeper at London zoo!).

sparklefarts · 28/07/2017 09:52

Oh dear lord. Burn your house

ToesInWater · 28/07/2017 09:56

I used to be severely arachnophobic, I moved to Australia, I got over it! I hate to say it but that is a midget compared to what you find here (though I might cheat a little and get my house sprayed every year so at least the monsters stay outside Grin)

FoofFighter · 28/07/2017 09:56

Please report this thread to get mnhq to a put a fucking warning on it Angry

trowelmonkey1 · 28/07/2017 10:00

Fucking hell! It's mahooosive!

Oh and spotted, we have a lot of spiders and our house is definitely not clean 😂 This is due in part to there being so many of the eight legged fuckers that I don't like moving stuff to clean. I have a phobia of them and my reaction on seeing a spider ranges from mild panic to fainting Blush

Teaandbiscuits88 · 28/07/2017 10:02

Ok so I was reading this thread on the toilet (as you do) and while cringing at the photo and all the spider stories, I casually unravelled some toilet roll AND A FUCKING HOUSE SPIDER FELL OUR FROM THE ROLL ONTO MY FUCKING FOOT!!!

Seriously, you couldn't make it up 😩

The worst thing is is that it's a baby one - the second one I've found in as many days. When will the mummy and daddy appear....

I think they live under my bath 😩

Teaandbiscuits88 · 28/07/2017 10:03

When I say baby, it was still big enough to send me skyrocketing through the bathroom whimpering until it scuttled off

VestalVirgin · 28/07/2017 10:05

Hm. I didn't now there were such large spiders in the UK.

Put it outside? For all I know, all native spiders in this part of Europe are relatively harmless, so don't quite get the panic.

BillBrysonsBeard · 28/07/2017 10:06

Aww they are harmless at this size. We never seem to get big ones since we moved into a first floor flat. I subscribe to the spider subreddit on reddit and the ones they have in Oz houses are huge.. bigger than tarantulas but not as thick. They must laugh at Brits getting all panicky about ones the size of a 5p Grin

BrexitSucks · 28/07/2017 10:09

He's a bootiful spidey. (no idea how but I would insert heart emojis here if I could)

Nousernameforme · 28/07/2017 10:09

We have a large spider who lives on our bathroom window. Deborah lives on a diet of moths mainly we always have our bathroom window open a crack so there is plenty to eat.

Once a big bastard of a wasp got in we were all having to pee quickly with a newspaper to hand. Deborah caught it and although it did sting her I was in there at the time, so called all the kids to watch, (the spider/wasp showdown, not their mother peeing) education and all that we were quite worried for her as although she finished with it she was quite quiet for a while afterwards but is fine now.

Really other than having to get rid of the little dried up bug cocoons all over the sill she is no trouble been there for well over a year now

SpottedGingham · 28/07/2017 10:19

Derek. My bathroom spider. Grin

InvisibleCities · 28/07/2017 10:23

My old cat used to catch and eat spiders for fun. Summer is when I miss her the most!

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/07/2017 10:23

Wow I'd be thrilled to find that in my house!!

Exciting

QuimReaper · 28/07/2017 10:25

OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!

I would have a full-on meltdown if I found that in my house and wouldn't be able to relax ever again Sad In fact I'm staying in my mum's house right now which does to get a bit spidery (moreso than mine anyway) and just thinking about it I keep jumping and slapping myself! Last night my cousin put a picture of a huge "false widow" he'd found in his garden on Facebook and I couldn't sleep for imagining one crawling up the wall and over my pillow. What is going on? Is there some kind of invasion?!

QuimReaper · 28/07/2017 10:27

Holy FUCK Gingham I'm in awe that you can co-exist with that.

I genuinely am unreasonably impressed with anyone who likes, or even doesn't mind spiders. I think it's like a superpower. My DH used to have a tarantula and I think he deserves some kind of medal.

Blush
Judashascomeintosomemoney · 28/07/2017 10:29

Looks like a giant house spider, don't put it outside it probably won't survive - put it in your loft or garage or something, poor little thing I'm joking, I'm terrified of them . We get loads of them here in our big, dusty, old house. Luckily I have cleverly cultivated at least one DD that loves bugs of all kinds and happily comes to remove them for me. We have wooden floors and when they run across them they are audible! One once fell from the chimney to the tiled hearth with, I swear, a thud!

fussychica · 28/07/2017 10:31

My boy, obviously could be a girl, lives under the shower tray and only comes out to see us in the evening. He is very fast, there is no way I could catch him before he retreats back under the tray as you approach. He is probably bigger than Derek but smaller than the OPs visitor.
WARNING DONT READ THE FOLLOWING IF YOU ARE SCARED OF SPIDERS.
I love spiders but screamed like a banshee when after a shower following a mornings gardening I looked into the bathroom mirror to see a ginormous bugger sitting in my hair.ShockShockShock. I wasn't really scared, more shocked.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 28/07/2017 10:31

I've reported the thread to ask for an edit to the title. I like spiders, but I know they are a major phobic trigger for quite a few people.

Please don't kill it, OP.

PonderLand · 28/07/2017 10:39

I can't stop shivering now OP! I thought it was a game of thrones thread Sad

When you chuck it out don't do what I did last week and throw the cup/paper with it in a moment of hysteria! From the top window!
