To think Grimms Rainbow is the wankiest toy?

60 quid?!?!?!

For ten ish curves of wood painted in each of the rainbow colours. For a small child. To no doubt try to shove up their nose or wedge down the loo.

I do not understand how this item is worth anywhere near 60 quid, and it has got to bw something the parents buy to try and win cred or something?

Milly, great pictures! But did you know that there’s a name on the first one?

I really want to get a Grimm’s Rainbow now...

MillyMolly123 · 03/03/2018 19:45

Oops. I’ve reported, not sure it’s a big deal, but just in case... Thank you for the heads up. Some more pics to help appreciate its beauty, and yes, they’re very well made IMO. Definite investment pieces.

Having never heard of/seen Grimms toys ever before, this thread had convinced me two things:

  1. I bloody love these toys.
  1. I want another baby so I can justify buying them all and playing with them.

I like it! I have a 2.5 year old and a 4.5 year old. Is it too late?!

peanutbutter310 · 03/03/2018 20:28

DD got a rainbow for her Christening. I'm looking forward to when she's old enough to play with it, rather than just chew on the wood. And in the meantime it does look very pretty in the nursery.

MillyMolly123 · 03/03/2018 20:35

@Binkybix, absolutely not. Try googling “Grimm’s rainbow ideas” or “Grimm’s rainbow challenge” to see what else is possible. Our 2.5 yr old loves using it as a ball run, car ramp and garage. Loads more challenging builds and imaginative play for older kids too

I'd never heard of these rainbows before but I think they look beautiful.

MillyMolly123 · 03/03/2018 21:00

@FindoGask it’s a slippery slope (just some of our collection can be seen in these pics), but they really are worth it, for us anyway. I totally get that some people may think it’s a bit pretentious, but they are really loved by our kids. They have great resale value too which most other toys do not.

We’ve got one, my family bought it for ds first birthday 5 years ago but he never paid much attention to it. Dd is a bit more interested but now I’ve got loads of ideas from this thread so will be getting it out in the morning! I must admit I was a bit taken about by its size when we opened it - I expected it to be bigger from the price and description!

Misty9 · 03/03/2018 21:06

We had the musical and light blocks milly but the dc weren’t bothered to I gave them to charity recently. Probably could have sold them on but can’t be arsed with the hassle!

MillyMolly123 · 03/03/2018 21:13

@Misty9 we definitely found that we needed to show our little boy how to play with the rainbow, initially at least. He will now play more independently with it, but I think it’s quite common to have to give them a push in the right direction. The Wonderworld blocks are mainly ignored by our 2.5 yr old, apart from using them to build along with other bits and bobs. Our 11 month old loves them though, so maybe best suited to very young children. You definitely would’ve got a decent price on the secondhand market for them, ah well!

Leontine · 03/03/2018 21:32

I see these all the time on Instagram and I love them, especially the pastel version. I don't have kids but I'd get one just as an ornament!

itsgettinghotinhere80 · 03/03/2018 21:33

We have one - gets played with loads by all ages and is so pretty/tactile Smile

everybodylovesabosom · 03/03/2018 21:47

@MillyMolly123 you have my dream playroom! Dc is coming up to 1st birthday and I can't wait to buy lots of grimms toys. Also looking forward to buying wooden kitchen/workbench when she's a bit older.

MillyMolly123 · 03/03/2018 21:56

@everybodylovesabosom Perfect age to introduce all the pretty things to her. Our 11 month old really enjoys the Grimm’s 7 friends in cups and the Grimm’s cars and trucks which are nice and chunky for little hands. The pebbles are a big hit with both of ours too. We don’t have one, but I’ve read many positive reviews about the wankle for 1 yr olds. I think we’re going to opt for the large geometric stacker instead though as it will get used by both of our kids, rather than just the youngest. We’ve got the large stepped pyramid stashed for our youngest’s 1st birthday next month also.

Loyaultemelie · 03/03/2018 22:08

We have the 6 piece and the Fire and the Gnomes whatsit (not actually a whatsit but can't remember the name) and both dd1 (almost 8) and dd2 (3 on Tuesday) love them. I'm going to buy the 12 piece and Elements before they disappear now so much has been discontinued.
I would love the giant one but even on a payment plan with 10% off can't bring myself to spend £500 Shock

LadyHonoriaDedlock · 03/03/2018 22:08

Just.... YANBU

Funnyface1 · 03/03/2018 22:31

I'd never heard of these toys before but think I'll be buying a rainbow for dd. She's 18 months so I'm not too late. I think ds 7 will enjoy it too though.

They're totally wanky, I sort of despise everything they stand for. However after reading all the comments about how kids love them I might get DS a set for his first birthday.

Shall I also order an ethical baby carrier and cloth nappies while I'm at it? Confused

Arealhumanbeing · 04/03/2018 00:59

Why what do they stand for? Also how are they pretentious. What are they pretending to?

Jaggythistle · 04/03/2018 04:13

I thigh it was a bit wanky too. But my toddler loved it when visiting someone's house.

I got the small one (About £17 I think?) For my toddler and it's been played with as much by my 2 oldest as the toddler. They seem to love it.

I'd not want to spend £60 on the big one though, even if they'd probably love that too Grin

alarox · 04/03/2018 04:37

I'd seen the rainbow before and thought the same OP. I saw your thread first time round and thought yep, agree, wanky. Then I read the comments, looked it up.... 8 months on my living room looks like a Grimm's toy shop. So thanks! Grin

FindoGask · 04/03/2018 07:45

@MillyMolly123 I love your playroom - a riot of colour. Your children are very lucky!

FindoGask · 04/03/2018 07:47

My children are too old for stacking toys now but my niece is due any day now and I know what she's getting for Christmas.
